  1. Superdan has had a busy year... He bought a new house in Mid-June, and is now planning on getting married. Sad to say, but Dan did NOT forward his new number to either Pete or myself. Some of the features on HybridZ, Like the search function, have been busted for quite some time... Dan is nowhere to be found and if anyone has contact info, I NEED IT!!! I know Dan is VERY consumed in his new life and preperations to become married in the near future... However, HybridZ needs some guidance beyond what Pete and I can provide without having direct access to funds, account info, and sources for the maintenance of the site. Without that info, HybridZ is starting to grow weeds, and become yet another run down tenament on the block of worl wide websites... Mike Kelly Admin at LARGE!
  2. V8Zcars.com was Owen's site originally... There were about 30 of us and tons of data that folks wanted to post... So Dan Porter offered to take it over... Dan asked PeteP and Myself to help him run things and we came up with what we thought the site should represent... So you have us to blame. Owen IS the Godfather of HybridZ.ORG! Mike
  3. ...On my ZX9R... Fastest day of my life. I have NEVER been so fast around a race course... I drug knees on the bike, which I didn't think I was capable of doing, and I saw 130mph on the back straight of the 1.2mile Jefferson Circuit... As well as hitting better than 100mph going into the Carousel... It was draining, exhausting, and after six 20 minute sessions, I'm convinced I have found a new love... Keeping it smooth was defenitely the key, and after the lunch time classroom session, it finally clicked! Thought I was gonna sell it, but I'll keep it for track events and just play on it. Nothing like railing on a motorscooter! Mike
  4. Had a motor in a 73 Celica that was in pretty bad shape...been sitting for two years... I filled the tops of the cylinders with the stuff, until it ran out of the spark plug holes, and then let it sit for two days... I went back and took a breaker bar and freed up the stuck rings... We fired the motor up and the compression was above 150 on all four cylinders... and I ran that motor back and fourth to high school and college for about 16 months before the Timing Chain finally let go! Crazy stuff, and I've had guys call me a liar because of that story, but it is true, and I wouldn't have thought to use the stuff had it not been for my dad! Mike
  5. Codey, THis is the first time I have nopticed your ZX and I'm not sure if you've been told before, but DAMN that is a sweet ZX! VERY NICE, VERY NICE indeed! Mike
  6. David, The biggest headache your friend will encounter is shipping. I personally take a $20-40 hit each time I ship out control arms. I can't imagine how expensive it would be for FEXEX (UPS Won't ship cartons as large as a fender or hood) to ship those fiberglass parts. Make sure your budy insures EVERYTHING he ships, as fiberglass WILL get damaged in shipping. Mike Kelly

    Top Speed?

1974 260Z with highly mod'ed 2.8L 6, ;large injectors, lots of port work on head, big cam, Electromotive ignition, big everything else - motorwise, and lots of suspension work, as well as rear wing, front spoiler, wider wheels and tires... Ran 168MPH @ 7200RPM verified with a Stalker radar gun. Same car, same setup except for T56/ 383 stroker combo with carb, Turned 155mph (Electric Speedo shown) @ 3700+RPM. Car was super stable, very tractable, and had PLENTY more headroom, but not the aid of my LEO Friend and his radar gun (And open invitation to run wide open!) Only suspension change at that time was 1 1/8 inch sway bar up front and a fuel cell out back, as well as dual exhaust running 2.5 duals out the back! Mike
  8. THast is funny as hell... My buddy Barry has a Dainese Suit that is real superhero looking and we all give him crap about being the "Gay" Power Ranger! Funny as hell! I'll take my leathers in a nice un-obtrusive Black and Grey with lots of hard armor and a back brace! Mike
  9. Getting a Zcar stable between 140-160MPH is VERY easy to do. I've been doing research on getting a Zcar Stable Past 200mph, and IF you are willing to follow a few suggestions, then you CAN do what you are trying to do without too much external body modifications. Search the archives, as we have covered much of this many times, or contact me off line and I'll give you the benefit of what I have learned. I've had several Zcars up to the 160s, with one pass being officially clocked (By a state trooper with a Stalker unit) at 168mph. My car was ROCK Solid, but did have a large WING on the back (Porsche Style) and an MSA Airdam up front. Mike Kelly
  10. Remember guys, LOCKJAW has his right to an opinion...If he thinks it is ugly, then to HIM it is. The marketing guys missed their mark with HIM, which means they would have lost a ptential customer in HIM! Nothing wrong with it... PErsonally I LOVE the car and wish more of them had made it stateside. However, The Z did, and that's why we are here now! Mike
  11. ...And I'm NOT a Lawyer, and I don't play one on TV! This weekend I'm playing the Carpenter from the Diet Coke commercial from a couple years back... Atleast that's the role my wife is picturing for me... God knows what she will have in mind next week... These role play games are getting a little out of hand... Mike
  12. Check with Pete...Mine aren't currently in the car...just bought them for the transformation...Pete's are in and should have some reports from him on fitment and sizing... Mike
  13. THANK YOU Kinked_Chrome! I think you put it all into perspective for us... Glad I followed my instinct and didn't turn this one off... Mike
  14. Pete P. and I both have the Corbeau A4 and they fit! Pull a measurement from those and base your dimensions off that... Mike
  15. Well I have to waid in here again. DAMN. OK, this IS the I'm telling you category and you have the RIGHT to let your hair hang down as long as there is no flaming... AviatorX has helped me in times of need, and has listened to my bitching about the wife's EX-husband, and kid issues... and I value his opinion. However, I have to disagree to this point. Books & records have been burned. Rock stars have been sued unsuccessfully. We're not providing a bad example here... I, above anyone else have NOT condoned the excesive speeding and wrecklessness of today's youth, which by the way was yesterday's and yester-year's youth... My point in the beginning of all this was to explain that we need to teach out kids how to better drive since they are gonna speed... Didn't WE? And what if I hit 145mph on my bike tonight... Had I gone through radar, I would most certainly have gone to jail. However, I'm not condoning the activity, just relaying the fact. That is wrong in the sense that I did it, but is it wrong in relaying it? Am I truly responsible for the actions of others??? I'm responsible for way to many things that I can impact change on to worry about impacting the impressionable minds of every kid who may stumble across this thread... I'm parent to two, not 22 million. Guys, this has been a well rounded thread by and large. Lets not totally ruin it now. Mike
  16. AviatorX, I'm not gonna kill it because I believe that there is good information here... There are places on this site for any number of topics, and yes we usually keep things less emotional and more technical... This thread was in an appropriate place for the original context. It DID spiral and degenerate off topic... But I think that there is merit in much of it, regardless the side of the fence you sit. Further, I believe that the vast majorety of us agree with you that if someone does something reckless in nature, that person deserves the punishment and it should fit the crime. MY EXACT Comment offline to Kevin was that I don't want the impressionable youth of this site to think it is OK to go out there and get out of a charge that he is guilty of... You take the chance and get caught, shame on you... You take the chance and a tragedy occurs, I hope you get the JUST punishment that society and the courts deem fitting... At least I HOPE that is the message they are getting... Mike Kelly
  17. LockJaw, Believe me when I say this... I'm 100% with you guys... Having been one, I know most of the dirty little tricks cops like to pull... Unfortunately, they are a necessety for the moral majorety to survive in today's "Civilized" society... However, there were several Very real and VERY GOOD reasons I decided to change professions... not the least of which was the "GOD COMPLEX" I saw taking over people I look to as peers and mentors... Mike
  18. I graduated from the Federal Law Enforcement Academy in 1986, the youngest graduate at that time ever to pass through those sacred grounds, I was 20 years old. By that time I had also obtained a degree in POLICE SCIENCE, and was working on a degree in criminology, as well as another (Yes dual majors) degree in Psycology with a speciality in abnormal behavioral sciences. Kevin, I took my oath very seriously, and quite honestly, had you tried that bit of diatribe, I would have absolutely gone out of my way to find ANYTHING to hang you with, just to prove to you that your weren't NEARLY as clever as you would fashion yourself to be. You know, I hate getting an "Offer to appear in this united states' Kangaroo court" as you have implied, but some folks make their beds much easier for others to allow them to lay in it. My advice stands... If you are young, you will be more seriously scruitenized. If you are older, say in your late 20's or into your 30's and you are professional, polite, and cooperative with the jack booted thug who has stopped you from pursueing your "natural fredooms", you might just get off with JUST a warning... Being polite does do well for you... Cops are humans... Some are decent, many are on power trips, and if you act like a smart assed know it all to them, you will guarantee that you have waived your rights to getting a break... Pursueing your "Natural Freedoms" is optional... I'm done with this thread and this diatribe... Mike
  19. I've traveled the world a bit, and the most attractive women I've ever seen were from Croatia... Dalmatian coast... Holly COW! Tall thin, big boobed, little framed 5ft. 8inches and above...And they are everywhere... Yea, the Russian Girls are nice as well... Mike (Whos is happily married!)
  20. Kevin, did you work on former President Clinton's staff??? Man you are good at wordplay... You know, I didn't inhail, and did not have sex with that woman, I don't like cigars.... Look guys, our laws are what they are. They aren't the best, but they are better than most other places I've been, and I've been to a few.. If you don't like the Laws of our land, put in place by elected officials then you have the "RIGHT" to try to actively get elected and change them... You can become active in local politics, or try a protest... Terry, that sux man... to break a streak like that...Maybe the Judge will look at your record and just drop it... Mike
  21. The guy is a TURD! Someone should call him out on it...Anyone know if he is affiliated with any of the ZCAR sites??? Mike
  22. OK Kevin... And Jim Powers... We don't have the right to drive Kevin... No where is a god given right for you to USE the paved and public roads set fourth by a county, state, or municipality without paying for a permit to do so... It isn't a right, never was and never will be...It is a PRIVILAGE. And one that YOU and I and EVERYONE else can LOSE... You are a lawyer, shame on you, you know better.. JIm Powers, I used to be a cop, have a degree for the job and was good at it...Too good... I was a HUGE prick (Not to say I'm not now!) and part of it was due to the fact that I dealt with assholes ALL day... The other half was the powertrip that I and everyother cop I knew was on... And now my wifes ex-husband uses his "Authority" every day to get out of something, get something for free, or to have some drug addict do himn a sexual favor in the back of his patrol car JUST so he can excercise his sense of POWER over them... No, not all cops are bad, and most probably aren't, but the bad ones are out there... And they are worse than you could imagine... I left that line of work because I didn't want to become one of "Them". As to the lad who got pulled over, Your friend is screwed. He is guilty, you admitted it here, and you MAY be used as a witness in court, and if it comes out that he had a passenger in the car with him, therefore endangering the life of another, he could also have THOSE charges stacked up against him if you local Distict Attourney wants to use him as an example... We found this out when my little brother was in the pokey... He had a friend with him when he was touching 104mph in a 55mph zone and it would have sent him to jail for 1 year... No bargaining... The Cop let that one slide because he didn't want to see him go down for a year.. Guys, this one has MORE than run its course... I think a few of the posts here are bordering the edge of acceptance, so lets get it back in check... Mike Who has just gotten home from the VIR500
  23. OK, Here we go again... We are an age of advanced people with CELL PHONES... Get his tag and CALL IT IN 911. When I see something that is just WAY over the top, I CALL IT IN... Say a guy doing wheelies at 90 in traffic around LOTS of cars and a SCHOOL BUS earlier this year... Guy almost dropped it twice... So I called it in and then sat back and watched them pop him... Same goes for ME if I get caught in the most inapproriate of spots doing some dumbassed moved...CALL ME IN! OK, I'm done... Gee, that felt better... Mike
  24. SBC = Small Block Chevy TPI = Tuned Port Injected HEI = High Energy Ignition (I'm guessing on this one) Another one... TBI = Throttle Body Injection Hope this helps... Mike
  25. Well damn... You guys missed it... You notice something missing here??? The vast majorety of mods I outlined in the above can be transfered to each and EVERY conversion we talk about on this board. It doesn't matter WHAT powerplant you choose, which is why I didn't focus on one... Hard starting from heat soak... Happens to most of the powerplants outside of the L6Turbo conversions. Hot running motors... 10:1 compression on an L6 can cause you to re-think how you cool the motor... Weight? Most of the serious V8zguys here have built motors that weigh within less than 40# of the L6. Throw a turbo on the L6 and we are about even... THAT is a none-issue... What did I focus on above... Suspension and brakes... Something ALL our cars suffer from as factory cars, and virtually ALL of us want to upgrade to some level of improvement... LENY, there is your answer... You stick ANY powerplant in the above combination of parts and you will have a VERY happy Zcar owner... DaveZ, Lone and Carlissemo get gold stars... They pointed out some VERY valuable points... To further prove my point... I'll be finishing car number two this coming year and it will have A/C, will be fuel injected, will likely put 500HP to the wheels, and will knock down 18MPG while I drive it to a SIGNIFICANT Zcar get together in 2004. I'll be giving rides to those doubters who think you can't build a comfortable, reliable street car... I'd mention Scottie GNZs car here, as his is the most doscile 500RWHP car I know of, but he doesn't qualify, as his is a LITTLE tiny 6 cylinder (Pun intented...!) , althought I'm sure the extra weight of the turbo and intercooler might get him close to the weight of an L6! It isn't about the powerplant guys, which was the point of this thread... Its about the package! Build it, drive it, Love it! Mike
