Well what can I say, it's freakin' hard to keep up with all the swaps out there! And that's a GOOD thing. The VH45 is definately a sweet motor. I'm personally more a fan of the 1UZ, but I'm not sure I could really tell you exactly why. They're both great motors, similar in many ways.

I was kinda wondering about that too. My guage is showing 16, which at a glance looks pegged, but probably isnt. It actually shows around 13 when I first start the engine, then once I rev the engine past 3k the alternator kicks in at it reads up near 16V. I'm assuming this is because I have a 4 wire alt that can turn on/off. I'll check mine with a multimeter once I have it handy. Don't want to fry anything.

So maybe you can give me a definitive answer. With all the hundreds of motor designs out there, it seems like there should be at least ONE 4 cylinder crankshaft that could be relatively easy to modify for a V8 application. Shouldn't this be easier than spending the 10k or whatever absurd amount of money it is to get a custom single plane crank? You know, I'll have to ask my friend how much it'd set me back to get an older or less desireable ferarri motor.

Seat Belts are red, but maybe you can take them apart and use your blue belt. I can probably ship them, just might be a while till I have time to pack it all up and ship them. I'll try to get you some pics next time I'm over where all the stuff is (car and parts are at my parents place). I'm not gonna ask for much, just enough to cover shipping and insentive to go to the ups store.

I'd looked for this video a while back, last time I posted in this thread, but couldn't find it. Well I found it again. I think it's one of the best sounding 1UZFE videos on the net. A whole lot better than hearing all those burbly idle and nutral rev videos. This should give you a better idea of what the engine can sound like in a race scenario. Maybe with 180 degree headers it'd sound pretty exotic. I'm not one to suggest it might though. I'm really here just to read.

I'd have to go back, and look but I don't remember either seat being terribly bad at all. Maybe some minor cloth wear. (it's not a leather option car) The dash was cracked in several places, but structially sound. The doors are longer, won't fit. Carpet I'm not sure on, you could take it and cut to fit if you wanted, but recoloring carpet would be a bit tricky I'd imagine. some of the rear pieces might fit, but the rear side pieces I don't think will fit. In these 82-83 cars they used a super cheap plastic sheet covering on all the panels (which they DID improve the construction of) but most of it is falling off on this car. So you'd need to put some cloth on the panels or just paint them. Seems like it'd be pretty easy to get some black vinyl and glue it on. But the seat belts will definately fit. I compared them to my 2 seater and they seemed identical. Again, you can have as much as you like. Beats ME having to throw it all away.

Like others are saying, if you can figure out the tranny issues then go for it! If you the OEM trannies won't work out, and you can't make a custom tranny adapter/bellhousing then there are MANY motors that we've talked about on this board, but know of no one who's done it. Ford Supercoupe V6 Mercedes V8 BMW Inline 6 Any toyota 4 banger (they have some good truck motors) Again, toyota truck motor, V6 Ford 460 ( i don't THINK it has beed done, but I'm probably wrong, I don't frequent the ford section here enough. but it'd be a wicked swap) There are MANY swaps out there that havn't been done, but are perfectly viable swaps. If you're gonna be fabricating stuff for a custom swap that's never been done, the options seem endless imo. Good luck with the project!

What color is the interior? It looked red in the ad, hard to tell. If you want some spare interior I have a full set of pretty clean 2+2 stuff you can have for DIRT CHEAP if you wanna come pick it up. (dirt cheap meaning pay for gas, and maybe some change to pay for some soda while you're here) Seats, seat belts, panels (door panels are the worst part, faded tops and beat up), carpet, dash, etc. Tons of RED stuff that i'll NEVER have a use for. All the stuff is up in richmond.

They're holding the grill in place. Yea I agree. I'm not gonna be making this look like a million bucks anytime soon, and I'm not sure I'd want to. IF I get an intercooler w/bov anytime soon, I might run as much as 10-12 psi. I don't really feel like fiddling with the EFI too much. I don't want to run super high fuel pressure just to keep it rich enough under boost, and I don't want to put a daily drive through the chaos of doing a MS conversion. The door has some rust holes, but truly surprisingly enough, the rocker panels on this car look really solid. The front left fender has rust issues, the passanger door has rust issues, the hood has rust issues, but all of the actual chassis rust seems pretty minor, as though after blasting there'd only be the ocasional small hole or so. There's definately some rust, but nothing that screamed out at me as though whole sections would need replacing (though I don't really plan on doing any rust repair at this point) Well you have my plate # now. The previous owner I bought it from hadn't ever heard of hybridZ, not sure if that means anything. He "said" (seemed like an honest guy) that when he was looking at buying the car and saw the turbo motor he instantly said he'd take it, and paid 3k for it, which he later realized as a mistake. The guys at his work kept saying that his girlfriend was pressuring him to sell it because it needed too much time and money which he didn't have. The guy works on tour buses for a living, I can't understand him not having the knowledge, but in my short time with him it felt like maybe he wasn't the most mechanically intuitive. Who knows. ================================ Car's current news: The alternator wasn't grounded, and wasn't charging my battery, and left me stranded. Quick fix the next day solved that problem. Lucky me I know people that can come rescue me and charge my battery The turn signal switch definately needs to come out and get a complete cleaning/lubing. The switch works, but it's hard to get it into the positions to make it work. Changed the wipers... I can actually see in the rain now. I have some other goodies like spark plugs I still need to install. It was a busier weekend than I was hoping for. I have a feeling this thing is running super rich, but I don't really want to lean it out until I get matching injectors Oh well, I'll just be keeping an eye out at the junkyard.

Ok, so I don't know how I missed this before, but I think it might have mismatched injectors, or they've been painted (wholely possible). Anyways, just got new wipers put on, DANG they make a difference. Before rain ment that going 65mph on the freeway was insanity, now the water actually gets removed, not just smeered. Today at my parents house. Gonna look over a few things and see if I can get some bugs worked out. Clean the windows for sure.... A random Zclub sticker on the passenger quarter window. Some interior shots (or lack there of). Engine Pics (i'm not a fan of the turbo intake piping....) Ghetto! Worst Hack Job Ever Money Shot!!! So that's what I got thus far. As you can see, it's not really that S30 we're all looking for, and it's not the best deal in the world for 1k, but I don't think it's anything close to a bad deal either. I'm loving the rims still. Might consider buying rudypoo's rims in the future. We'll see.

Looks like a semi-gloss black. No bumpers. Turn signals are lower on the outsides (i can never remember what came like what). It has a regular S30 seat in it. Small crack in the windshield on the upper right (driver) side. Umm... can't think of what else. Very minimal rust. Battery tray is great, hatch area is 95% solid, the only major body imperfection is that the hood is rusting and someone tried to open up a hole for the S130 turbo 82-83 NA hood scoop, and some corner panel damage behind the driver's rear wheel. Some big flares would fix that though Even VGs would cover most of the body damage. Shouldn't be too hard to pull out to a decent curve again. Oh yea, car was in west oakland, but I believe it used to be in travis. That's where the owner is from and where he said he used to have the car. EDIT: Oh yea, another very distinctive "feature" of this car is the boost guage what was a pretty poorly done job. Dash is a bit hacked up from it.

HAHAHA... woops... i'll fix that... Can you tell i'm a little psyched? I'm giddy, but also tired. The owner works graveyard and the car was at his work, so i was up a bit early to get there and still get to my work at a decent time.

Ok, so I'm selling my CRX back to the previous owner like we'd agreed upon. And I needed to either get my 280ZX on the road in 2 weeks or less (impossible for the most part) or buy a new car. I wanted something presmog, and I only had around $1000 I could reasonably spend or so. $1500 was doable but would be a stretch. What did I get? drum roll please... . . . . . . . A 75' . . . Datsun . . . . 280Z!!!! And it has an L28ET installed, so I guess now I'm officially a hybridZ owner!!!! Spare misc parts, decent body (normal floor rust, but very little in other areas), and it's running pretty solid except a slight miss at idle. Sticky injector maybe? I'll run some cleaner through it and change the plugs + wires, see if that clears it up. My GF took some pics of it sitting in it's dusty corner, and got some pics after it was rinsed off. I'll post them up tomorrow if I can. I really REALLY wanted a 240Z, but this was the right price, and will do what I need it to. Tomorrow i'll be going over the whole vehicle and making an auto parts run to buy some basic things for it, fuses, switches (might rewire the turn signals), wipers, etc. It really needs a bath too. Btw, it's black on black!!! (only one seat though)

Corrected Wow, some of those guys are just stupid imo. Obviously their skills weren't up to the challenge, so why risk your car trying to prove something? Most of them were just going absurdly too fast for that corner. Long downhill (looking) straight on a progressive radius bend, and most of then lost it before ever getting to the corner trying to get sideways early... That guy at around 1:45 is the smartest of the lot if you ask me. He knew he was going to fast and just applied the brakes and kept it straight... saved the car.

Welcome back. Hopefully you can find a way to keep the SR Z, or maybe keep the powerplant. Would be a shame to waste it. I read in aother thread you're considering selling two Z cars, what's the other one? I'm trying to buy a daily driver right now but I'm short on cash. Still figured I'd ask though

Hmm, for some reason I can't get in touch with the seller anymore. His phone line is answering "this phone like is temporarly out of service" and he hasn't called me back or anything. Guess the plan is off. I'll be looking at another S30 tomorrow morning. Thanks to anyone who checked in on the thread though.
