One time, i was working on one of my spitfires under a buddy's lift. I was using an angle grinder to remove the remains of a front crossmember. The got caught and the grinder kicked back at my face, cut through the left lense/frame of the brand new oakleys i was wearing, and then cut a 1.5 inch gash below my left eye. I'm pretty sure those glasses saved my eye...i just wish the warranty covered being hit in the face with an angle grinder. The other time, i was trying to diagnose a fuel problem under with my stingray. I was underneath the car, clearly wasn't thinking, and disconnected one of the fuel lines that was right above my face. As soon as the line was removed from the fitting, a gasoline poured out and went up my nose, in my mouth, and in my eyes. I smelled gas for the next week.

I found a guy locally who's selling a complete running quest vq35de motor for about $500. It's complete, but it would need all of the parts for manual trans (including trans, fly + clutch, (and starter?)). In your opinion, would i be better off buying a complete motorset for $2500-3000 or buying this engine and piecing the rest together?
-
I found vq motor ridiculously cheap, but i's from fwd. A search revealed that the motor will bolt up to a 350z trans, but i'm curious as to what's different internally that accounts for less horsepower in the fwd versions. Do they have the same horsepower potential? I did aquick search, but found nothing. Please link to a thread if i overlooked it. Thanks!

Somewhere, a proud mother is showing this to her friends and saying "That's my son!"

Did something I have been wanting to do for a long time.

That's badass...What's your chassis/motor setup? -
Thanks for the heads up. I've never really thought about paying more or less for a car based upon my intentions for it. I was looking at this as a home for the 13bt...I'm not feelin the brown so much, but it's definitely clean. I'll keep looking around.

Hmm...How wide is an sr20 at it's widest point? I like the suggestions so far...I'd like to take out the rear seats, move the front ones back, and then have maybe like an oak veneer floor or something? Similar to some panel wagons i've seen. It'll definitely need suspension all around, i might have to start looking for potential candidates...

http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/car/473874340.html He claims the only rust spot is under the battery tray, he got the car from his dad who bought it new (i believe...). He';s pretty firm on $6600 1973 Datsun 240Z 2 owner car, all in one family Lots of documentation from both owners Numbers matching car Original color Original mag wheels Most work done by Z Doctor in Mountain View, CA Top-end/valve-job about 2000 miles ago Excellent original leather interior

So, went by my dad's and got some measurements and pics: Track: 48" Wheelbase: 84" Width between framerails: 19" EEEK Depth from firewall to radiator support: about 22" or so. Thoughts anybody? This thing is super straight, and very little rust. Here she is as she sits in the backyard. This seems to be the worst of the rust: Underside looks pretty good, at least the pics that i took: Interior, not tOOO bad: And the anemic engine bay:

GRM $2008 Challenge car?! LOL

Well my immediate thoughts were to take out the rear seats, move the front ones back for adequate legroom. A narrowed ford 8.8 would be the easiest thing for the rear suspension, maybe rebuild the front double wishbone suspension with new arms and a modern hub/spindle assembly. I'm going to his place tomorrow to take more measurements and get some pics, but what i could find online, this car is 12 feet long, 4'10" wide, with a wheelbase of 88" and curb weight of 1780 pounds. Pop n wood: Sadly, these cars arent worth much to anybody unless for sentimental reasons. But you're right, the power output was right around 26 HP, or 10 british horsepower (their horses are stonger?). They claim the car's top speed was a bit over 70 mph...0-60 time was around 18 seconds.

I'd try going the credit card route. I paid for something on my Chase Visa card, and it never arrived. I provided receipts, explained the situation, and got a refund to my account about 6 or 7 weeks later. It was only for $300 or so, but it was relatively painless.

This isn't the exact one, but it's similar: and the boot (is it still a "boot" if it opens sideways?) It's a triumph Standard 10, or Triumph 10, or sometimes called the herald wagon. these things are pretty rare. His is in pretty good condition, but it needs paint, interior, and motor. I have a rebuilt 13bt, tranny, and turbo rx7 rear end that could be shoehorned in. I'm wondering if it's worth making into a little hot rod for a DD, maybe to help advertise my training business, or if i should tell him to give it away to somebody else. Thoughts anybody? The car only weights 1760 pounds or something like that.

holy crap, z-tards comment tickled my funny bone somethin fierce. -
Geez, i didnt even notice i posted in the wrong forum (i'm guessing it was moved into here?)...You'd think i'd know better after being around here for a couple years. Anyhow...There' is absolutely nothing wrong with the optum sps, except it's cost, $250. I'm looking to do the same pulling movements with it, but i figured there might be something cheaper. The system reminds me of the adjustable drag on a fishing reel... Crispy - Sent you a pm. And yes, $173 seems a bit pricey for that sled unit. However, the nice thing about the OPTUM is that i wouldn't have to carry around a bunch of weights to create 1000 lbs of resistance...
-
Actually, no, i didnt. I figured there were people on here with a multitude of interests/hobbies and engineering backgrounds that might be able to lend some advice about a similar system to serve the same purpose. If people can post threads about their guns, women troubles, financial advice, etc, i figured it was worth a shot.
-
I recently stumbled upon a product called the Optum S.P.S . it's basically a rope/pulley system that, with the turn of a knob, adjusts in resistance from 4 lbs up to 1000. I'm thinking there has to be some sort of system similar in both size and function, but designed for different fields? Anybody have a suggestion? Their website is http://www.optumsps.com These are the only decent pictures i can find...

Curious...Which Income Bracket Do You Guys Fall In?
rustrocket replied to slownrusty's topic in Non Tech Board
I'm 23 with no degree, and this will be my biggest year at right around $70,000. Next year isn't looking so hot, but who knows, i said the same thing last year. I set a goal a few years ago to double my income every year and i've managed so far...but i know it'll get exponentially harder. I'm happy with the money i make now, but not happy about how much i work to get it. I've already started taking mikelly's advice, and surrounded myself with smart people. I owe everything i have to hard work and networking/schmoozing with the right people. -
Davy - Not nearly as much as i should, 4-5 days a week for 45 mins if i'm lucky. In that picture, taken a couple weeks ago, i weighed 218, at 6'1 with 11% body fat... My avatar picture is pretty recent too. -Cam

Bugatti 253mph speed falls to Utlimate Aero 255 mph record
rustrocket replied to Peternell's topic in Non Tech Board
at $550K, it's a bargain! I'll take two! -
Thanks for all the replies and advice so far guys. From all the guns i've tried, the italian ones fit me the best, specifically the Berettas, but i did check out an SKB 585 at a shop over the weekend which fit well. I guess i wont really know until i can take a couple out to the range and shoot some clays.
