  1. I know this is a is for v8 z's but I just couldn't resist to show you this inline six turbo '70 chevy monte. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RO_kjaxIDzc
  2. I would go with a donor that has an ls1. Those motors are top notch and guys made close to 1000 hp (turbo) on the stock shortblock.
  3. How about replacing the inline 6 L series with a 5.9L cummins inline six. There's a 70's monte carlo with on in and it barely fit in it length wise. haha. not trying to list all of the engines that wont fit. I just thought of the monte carlo when you said that.
  4. just make up your own mounts if you good at metal fabrication/welding. the only kit availible for the zx's are old style sbc's.
  5. advance auto has them for 5.88 a piece, but i just used rtv.
  6. go to dallasturbo.com thats were i got my s400 from. it was 595 shipped. the guys (dave and mike) are real nice and will work with you and you can call them with any questions or anything. or if you have any questions you can just pm me. Guys have put out some real nice numbers on those turbos. I have some pics of my setup on here i posted. I'm expecting around 575 rwhp on pump gas and around 10-12 pounds of boost. On paper that should easy but you know how that goes.
  7. As many poeple i talk to poeple who have gone single stay single and poeple who have gone twin wish they went single or changed to single. You may want to build the hot side while the motor is in the car and i had problems with room because its a s400 borg waner and the size of a 5 gallon bucket.
  8. you could pull #1 plug and check piston. i always do that after the motor is together just to triple check everything is right and in line.
  9. i have one more jegs order and then its done. Maybe have it done buy the 5th for a race but i doubt it. I will be going to the dyno the 18th though so i'll get some numbers for you guys.
  10. oh yea, i just put it on for pictures. Thats not even the shortblock going in there. It's just a spare we had so we can work on that and build the other shortblock at the same time.
  11. just ask if you have questions. *first time posting pics...sorry*
  12. I wouldnt think the street manners of a roots would be very good compared to a centrifigal or turbo.
  13. I'm running an A-1000 and the guy from aeromotive said it will pull fuel to 30 feet in the air but the only problem is that the fuel will get heated when being pulled.
  14. I have thought about putting a bulkhead in. I'll keep reading. I want to make sure it is 100% safe before my arm goes anywhere near it. I saw one link from google that the guy would rinse the tank with water. Then he would run buy it with a burning cloth and throw it in and get about a 2 foot flame. Then fill the tank with water to were he is welding. I also read about the filling it with inert gas too. If I lose my courage i'll just get a fuel cell.
  15. I want to weld the fittings on the bottom of the fuel tank instead of having my fuel pump pumping it from the top which makes the fuel hot. I want to keep the stock tank if possible because i'm trying to make the car look as stock as possible. I'd like to know what you have to do to the tank to try not to make it a bomb. I googled it and searched on here and couldnt find much.
  16. Well they just canceled my order for the bushings and i cant find my motorsports auto or victoria british book anywhere. So if i could get the part number for a 79-83 280zx manual rack bushings that would be great.
  17. I went to advance autoparts website and ordered them. You would have thought that I could have just ordered them from the store...
  18. Hey i need to find a place to get some rack mount bushings for my 280zx. It is a manual rack. I went to autozone and checked out black dragon auto and they had them listed but the part is "unavailible at this time." Does power steering rack mount bushings fit because black dragon has those in stock. I lost my motorsports auto book and couldn't find them on there website. Any help is apreciated, i just got my turbo and roll cage but I have to move the car to our other garage and would like to get them asap.
  19. The heads (pro comp) that skip white sells are casted in australia and machined in the usa at his shop. Thats why they are so inexspesive compared to others. Also the deck is thinner compared to afr's or bordix.
  20. I'd check your floor pans for rust first. Both my passanger and drivers side are rusted out. Cant weld in my roll cage if i dont have nothing to weld too. Haha.
  21. figured it out, but thanks anyways. Admin can delete this.
  22. I second that on buying new heads if you want more hp, but do what you want to do with the engine, and if your budget doesnt allow it, then wait until it does. You'll save money in the end and be happy with what you got rather than having problems and getting frustrated with a thrown together sbc. Spend your money once...just a suggestion from what I learned from years of reading on this board and others and past prodjects. Check out the summit heads thread
  23. Kechup, Nice pics. What size is your exhaust? I was thinking of running a 4" from turbo back and two 2 1/2's to the turbo. Does your hood clear the EV bonnet? And did you do the carb yourself or have CSU help out. How is it from idle to when it spools up? I've read of guys having problems with it being to rich and then to lean at boost due to how differently boost comes on with a turbo compared to a supercharger. But Csu puts a boost sensitive power-valve in that makes the a/r level out. You know your intake temps with the intercooler? Sorry for all the questions. I'm just waiting on my motor to get back from being cooked and still have to fly cut the pistons for the vavles. But once summer comes and I have more time to work on my zx then there will be another turbo z w/ a mpt70. To bad it will be like yours almost. I'll have to think of something different like sticking the turbo through the hood to make it look like one of those hot wheels cars my nephew has. LOL. Thanks, Dustin
  24. If he pulled trailers alot with it then I would rebuild it. It wont take much and i'd think about a vavle job. It wont cost that much money and you'll have a nice motor that you know is good.
