RIP R200 in my Z now Im calling JEGS
dustin280zx replied to a topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
If you have need any more information or suggestions don't be afraid to shoot me a pm and i'll help you anyway i can because you helped me out alot on the suspension of my car. Most poeple are shady on giving up information on their car. Depending on how much boost you run and if you run race gas you might not need an intercooler. You can also get what is called a "snow kit" which is just a meth injection system that alot of poeple use to lower inlet temps and avoid intercoolers. -

I did the carburetor myself, but if you are not familar with blowthrough (my brother-in-law has a supercharged monte so I have some hands on experience with them) I would get CSU to do it. It is 450 dollars for any carb for them to do and they are very helpful with any questions, but they are VERY VERY busy because they're so good so it might take a while. Here is how to build your own carb and a few other nice reads for you. http://www.hangar18fabrication.com/blowthru.html http://www.theturboforums.com/smf/index.php?topic=51153.0 I saw the pictures of your turbo and i'm not sure, but i'll do more research, however you have a 75 mm compressor with what looks like a t4 housing which would spool great and make good power. My fuel system is ALLLLLLLL areomotive which should handle 1100 (according to areomotive) and very streetable. If you wish to make more than 1000 hp and mainly drag then i suggest you go with the magnaflow 550 but it can only be ran 15 minutes at a time or go with two A-1000. My brother-in-law did his own carb at first and put it on the dyno which the car popped around 6700. He sent it to csu and ALL they did was put a boost sensitive powervalve in it. It made it run alittle smoother but he only gained 5 hp at the wheels which could be due to the weather. It turned out that there was not enough voltage at the pump and the popping stopped after we put more juice to it. So don't be afraid of building your own if your don't mind some time tuning it. -
If you take the cars weight and what it runs in the quarter you can get close to how much power it is making. I'm just guessing, but JnJ runs low nines with about a 2600 pound car? so i'm guessing he has about 800-850 horses at the motor. That is PROOF that an r-200 will handle what your going to throw at it. Also there are alot of poeple running around with setups just like what you want to do using an r-200. I'd would be more worried about breaking halfshafts rather than the rear. JnJ also post his suspension setup on here so search on here for "drag racing setup" or something like that. Don't search this section, search the suspension section.

Is that 75mm a borg warner? If so it might be a s400 like mine because they are used on big liter Detroits and Cummins. You may want to reconsider going twins. After all my readings about blowthrough turbos and superchargers mostly on turbomustangs.com most poeple are pro single turbo and poeple that did go twins changed their setup to a single or wish that they had gone single. Just something to look into to make sure you what you want and not waste money by changing. I suggest just going to turbomustangs.com and reading some of the builds...some are WILD like a 3500# olds going low 8's on a 85mm s400 that doesn't even look fast(if you take out the whistling when it spools haha) -

It is a T6 exhaust housing with a 71mm compressor. Due to the 350 ci. I kept it 71mm and its capable of 967 hp (the turbo) at the motor. After I build a stronger 383 or 388 I was thinking to upgrade to a 85mm compressor. But i'm stuck at the 10.00 mark unless I want to add some more bars which the setup I have now should float me into the mid-high nines if so desired. So i'll be looking at another car (camaro maybe?) if I build the other motor, which will be years down the road. -
You can get a Kemetic (spelling?) head gasket to lower the compression. They are .200 thick I believe. If that EV hat isn't o-ringed you will have problems with blowing gaskets. What radiator is that?

Yes, he does have trouble with patience. I take my time and save my money, but everyone is their own person. -
Will these headers work????
dustin280zx replied to z or bust's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
Here is my setup. After doing it, I want to change it and will use those headers I listed above, but this is how its going to be for now. I wanted to mount the turbo in the front of the engine, but due to the size I had to put it in the corner. -

One of my friends burned out a msd 6a box on his camaro that runs high 10's two nights before a drag race. I told him that he could just use mine and get a new one off summit or ebay. But nope he went to a local speedshop and spent 220 on a 6a. I just about fell over when he told me that and then told him that I got a new digital 6 for 275. This will really make you laugh. He went to a different speed shop to have the battery placed in the rear of the car, put new adjustable shocks and a-arms in (already paid for), and a dual exhaust (I think it was 2.5") on his camaro. The guy told him around 1200 and he said just do it. Three weeks later he gets a call that its done and he goes down and just the secretary is there and not the mechanic/owner. So he goes and asks how much is it and she said 2500. He was pissed but didn't flip out on the secretary and just paid it. The best part is is that the exhaust doesn't even have an "h" or "x" pipe and it was CRUSHED BENT. I felt like telling him that I would've did it for 2000. It's guys like him that keep them in business. haha. -

I have a single s400 turbo thats blowthrough. woops two year old thread...I guess thats the reason he can't find much info on a single turbo..haha -

I used patriot tight truck headers from jegs. If I had to do it over again I would've probably used these http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Small-Block-Chevy-SBC-GM-Twin-Turbo-Headers-350-305-400_W0QQitemZ130171979021QQihZ003QQcategoryZ33742QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem -

I read your post wrong, I should've read it twice. I thought you stated that a NA big block will run equally or better as a turbo'd sbc. I do 100% agree with you that a turbo on a sbc chevy would do wonders on a big block as you previously stated. A good example is Bill Lutz running a 540 ci bb with twin turbos in his 3500# camaro running a 6.99 and backing it up with a 7.02. Estimated close to 2900 hp with that setup. -

IVE SEEN LOTS OF GUYS DUMP 8K-11K in a SBC engine with TURBOS, superchargers ,trick parts and not equal whats available like this 620 displacement BBC..even the 550 and 454 SBC exceed what many guys spent far more money to build[/ I'm sorry, but I disagree. I think this is just a case (s) of poeple poorly spending money and not knowing what they are doing. Poeple can do it in building big blocks too or building anything for that matter like houses. I also see more and more poeple in the 8's (unlimited drag radial class to be specific) using FI than I do NA. I'm not trying to say which is better because I think FI is better since I'm stongly influenced on Force Induction and you think NA is better because your strongly influenced on NA. When someone asks how to make horsepower your going to yell NA Big block and i'm going to yell Forced Induction Small Block and thats how it is. HAHA. -

Is it just me or does that price seem steep for the parts. I can't believe he uses stock gm rods and heads for phase one and two. I mean its not like eagle or scat are that much more expensive to put in. -
Looking for a 350 block 4 bolt main
dustin280zx replied to jnjdragracing's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
did you check out the junkyard for a good 010 block? You can get 350 4 bolts for free to 100 bucks, the 010's are around 300-400 though and fewer to find in my area. I'm surprised your having trouble finding stock 350 4 bolt. I received mine for free (had a spun rod bearing but only used the block anyhow). -
You guys think this is alittle too much boost?
dustin280zx replied to dustin280zx's topic in Non Tech Board
I think these tractors run close to 200 psi via a few turbos (I think 5 or 6 is the limit with the big boy class) -

I figure nothing some JB weld and 7000 ft. baler twine can't fix -
I can't wait until I have enough money for one of these super stockers. Oh yea he split the block right in two as you can tell...I stole this from another forum.

dido... also a car of such power, you would think to add a roll bar (at least a 5 pt.) for stability and safety, I see no power adder so a na 347 manual 110 in the 1/8 on street tires? I would guess that the motor would be too wild to drive on the street (if it does do 110 in the 1/8) with 14.50 per gallon race fuel so where's the drag radials or slicks. Also...for a 32K car I would think the engine compartment would be a little cleaner and neat. And come on for real...it can do 200 because it out ran a 200 mph bike?

You want the s400 (75mm) then, that is too much for the mpt70. are you putting that in a z cause you'll be knocking on the 8 second door with that or at least low 9's even if you mean 1000 at the motor. some helpful links that you NEED TO read http://www.theturboforums.com/smf/index.php?topic=84015.0 http://www.theturboforums.com/smf/index.php?topic=98046.0 http://www.theturboforums.com/smf/index.php?topic=94080.0
