Need Idea on Starter Problems
dustin280zx replied to dustin280zx's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
I feel like an idiot now, but the starter wasn't grounded. I didn't put the groundstrap on the motor yet. I hooked the jumper cable from the starter to the frame and it turned over. The only thing now is that the motor is tight and the battery didn't have enough juice to turn it over enough to start it. -
280zx with a sbc. Well I can tell you that its not the starter, the battery cable, or the battery. Heres whats going on. I hooked the starter up like I read on here the yellow wire to the switch pole on the starter and the battery cable to the power pole on the starter. We went to dropped the distributor in and hit the starter to set it in and it turned the motor about 1/4 turn just enough to set the distributor in. After that we were ready to start and hit the switch and got a loud ticking noise. Sent the starter back to the place and got a new one. Put it in and got the same ticking noise. Took the starter out and put the jumper cables on it and turned out fine. Re crimped the end on the battery cable going to starter and hooked the jumper cables up to there and starter was fine. The ticking sounds the bendix is engaging and then disengaging quickly like if you turn the key and keep hitting the starter fast. So this leads me to the switch source I think. I'm going to try the screwdriver method just to confirm its the switch but I wouldn't know what would be wrong with it? The thing that gets me is it turned the motor over even though it was just brief and then just quit working?

Thats impressive Superdan.

I would use salt water to clean it with. Hydrogen peroxide, alcohol, and other cleaning types kill bacteria very well, but it also destroys the white blood cells, platelets, and such that is needed to heal it. I only know this because I'm a pre-pa major and they say that cleaning it with salt water is better now.

Which Air Box to use?
dustin280zx replied to Turbo Meister's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
I've read that those boxes are a PITA to use and leak? I'm curious on why you didn't switch to a hat? Of course that was with the vortech boxes too. I'm not bashing it or nothing because you obviously have it working good for you. -
Run out of money? But that just stops it, you still have an addiction.

Maybe your dog is in heat. Coyotes have been known to mate with domestic dogs and wolves too.

JTR Raditor w/ fan and shroud for sale
dustin280zx replied to 240hoke's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
what is the depth of it. from the front of the radiator to the back of the fan shroud and another measurement to the back of the fan. I don't have much room up front. -
Grumpy is right, you need to set a budget, if you want NA or a power adder, and what your equipment can handle (tranny/drivetrain).

dustin280zx replied to Minotaur's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
Well if money is an issue and you want horsepower for the street/strip look into FI. I've read about alot of bad LSx with turbos that are on pump gas. -
Need another Favor from someone who lives in TX

w/a intercoolers work amazing!!! On my brother-in-laws f1r procharged monte he lowered his inlet temps from 425 to under 100!!!! Both of those temps are at peak boost, but it sure does go through the ice...2 bags/run. haha. -
Well the most that my buddy laughed at was swapping the rear diff out of my zx with a lsd and i lifted it up onto the suspension and I thought i had it balanced out enough to stay there so I could roll out on the creeper and grab the wrenches and such. And I told my buddy who is a true friend drinking a beer and sitting on the chair not even offering to help Quote "watch this rear drop on my balls as i roll out" Just to let you know my feet we're facing the front of the car. Sure enough as soon as i rolled out it dropped right on my male genitalia. Nothing even touched the car, it just fell. And i did it the same way by myself probably 5 times before that in the past. Well just to let you know it made my eyes water and i was unable to work on it anymore for about 20 minutes. But what gets me is that it could wait another quarter second to drop on the creeper or a quarter second before to fall on my stomach. ALL the weight right there in that area...but then again i guess it is a big area.

There was a thread on here about pro comp heads. Patriot, Pro comp, strike force heads are the same. They are casted in Australia and machined in the U.S. which is why they are low cost. But from the thread that was on here I would not purchase them due to their variability in flow.

How would you spend $1000?

results of procomp heads dyno test
dustin280zx replied to grumpyvette's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
yes that does apply, because procomps are roughly only 750-800 dollars a set of Al heads compared to the 1300 afr's and 1500 for the afr eliminators. Other Al heads are around 1000-1200. And if your looking at a new set of heads I would not go with edelbrock because they do not really flow that well compared to afrs and afrs 195's are only 200 more I believe. http://airflowresearch.com/195sbc_sh.php http://www.purplesagetradingpost.com/sumner/techinfo/heads1.html#Edelbrock%20RPM -
I am in no means being cocky. If gas wasn't so high i'd be driving my dodge cummins. But the honda is front wheel drive so it's good in snow (which it snows all the time), it gets 40 mpg, and the engine life is long. The biggest part is the 40 mpg so it only cost me 15 bucks to go home once in a while to work on my Z. But it also sucks driving because you have to rev the ♥♥♥♥ out of the thing to go up mountains and you can hardly pass someone unless you have a nice strech of road.

I love my 89. Saves me alot of work

I have a '93 hinda civic lx and i like it. I just turned 190,000 miles and still get 40 mpg on the highway. I dont have all that dumb ♥♥♥♥ on it though or think its fast . hell i have a hard time getting up mountains without rev'n over 3000 haha. It does good in the snow and get's me back and forth to college without using much gas. the only thing i replaced on it was o-rings on the injector, but I think when i get to about 200,000 i'll have to put in a new clutch. They're TRANSPORTATION good cars in my opinion, but in know means a car to race like most of these uneducated poeple think. I had a guy try to tell me at the drag strip that if you put a wing on it will lose a half a second on your quarter. But what most poeple try to do with those type of cars is like trying to make a pony into a race horse, it just does not work and you get made fun of for doing it.

What is your most valuable, important tool in the box?!
dustin280zx replied to proxlamus©'s topic in Non Tech Board
I believe the brain is the most important tool in the box. If you research something and know how to do it or think it through, your task will go a lot smoother and less aggravation. I'm not trying to a smart@$$ or anything, thats just what I think, besides I ruined many of tools to configure a new tool to fit that ONE application I needed it for to make it easier on myself.
