  1. Aside from spraying anything on the intercooler, I wonder if you put some pusher fans on if that would be adequate enough to keep it at ambient? Just make up a bracket so you would be able to take them off and on easily as it would just be needed for when at the track. I don't know if it has been done or if it would work but it is just an idea I thought of while reading your post.
  2. My car hooks enough to pull the wheels a few inches off and the only thing I broke was the powerglide and head gasket. The glide broke when I bumped the boost to 17 pounds shifting from low to high at the track. I'm not sure why the head gasket blew yet as my a/f was a solid 12.0, but its pump gas so I won't know until further investigation. These videos are when the car was just out of the workshop and 3-5 pounds on the launch so you can see how well it hooks. When I left at 8 pounds it lifted the front up and I was glued to the seat. I haven't recorded any videos of the new setup. Maybe this spring. http://www.youtube.com/280zxv8#p/u/6/d_BFcY6K5_c http://www.youtube.com/280zxv8#p/u/7/6MKTkz4kH2o I forgot to mention this is 100% stock suspension and rear. And the rear tires are 235/60/r15 M/T drag radials.
  3. 1000fwhp should get you 8 seconds. 720fwhp should get you in the mid-high nines. But that all depends if you plus your car are around 3200 pounds. I think you are getting too far ahead of yourself. Mount up the motor and get everything as complete as you can. Then start brainstorming about plumbing. You can also look into 351 headers as they are almost identical to the LS exhaust port pattern. Cut off the ford flange and weld on the Chevy flange. Alot of guys did this for their ls swaps in the stangs and alot of chevy guys used 351 turbo headers as well.
  4. I saw a 99 camaro with an f1-r setup and it was TIGHT to the motor. If I remember correctly it was on the lower passenger side. If you know alittle about prochargers then you know a f1-r is one of the big ones. I wouldn't see why that wouldn't fit into a z. I would go to ls1tech and look at pictures guys have and ask them for mesurements of the charger off the engine block.
  5. Snyper, For methanol systems I highly recommend alcohol injection systems, also known as AIS. They not only have a great system and many options to choose from, the guys running the company are very knowledgeable and helpful. I don't hesitate to call them when I need opinions on changes I make.
  6. After an unexpected misfortune in the family, I finally got around to finishing the new setup on the z. The things I changed were heads, carb work, and turbo. I am super happy with the results. I can already tell it is making alot more power then the old setup. I have instant boost. I am so stunned at how this 350 runs. The only thing I wish I did different was change one thing at a time to see what gave me the most improvement which I think is the turbo and carb work. I think the last setup would definetly run around 9.70's With this setup I think it'll go around 9.40's. Same boost, same BP pump gas, 2* more retarded @ 8psi than other setup...for now. When I get home this weekend I'll get some video.
  7. Did you receive it yet? How does it look? From pictures other guys have posted they look like new.
  8. I figured this would be a nice addition to go in my zx. blowthru of course. These are gm performance intakes and retail for 503 on summit. Time to find a stock 5.3 so I can rip the piss out of it. He also has efi intakes as well. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170389536204&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT
  9. I have thought about that, or maybe a bad accident. I was thinking about doing that, but I wanted to make sure there isn't a law I'm breaking since he did buy it. I was told the if you sell something you have a certain amount of time to pick it up before you sell it again. I can not find any laws on it though. That sounds like a really good idea. But I will only accept Certified Bank Cashiers checks. And I will send you the money the next day I cashed it, just to make sure it did not clear. I love getting emails from people like that on craigslist. HAHA.
  10. I sold a motor and tranny at the beginning of July and the guy never picked it up yet. I talked to the guy for two hours or so when he came and looked at it and seemed real straight forward and nice fellow. I even drank a beer with him and that's saying something where I come from. He paid me in full (over a grand) and said he'd be back next week to pick it up. Well it is now October and I haven't heard a thing from him since the day he bought it. I've emailed him about 8 times saying that I would gladly take it to his house for him and I want it out of the garage. I don't have his number because it is "restricted" on my cell phone caller id or else I would try to call him. I don't know where the guy lives either. The only information I have is his email. I seriously have not heard from the guy since the day he bought it. This seems very unusual to me because if I pay for something, I want it in my possession especially when it is a large sum of money. I'm tired of this motor and tranny being in the garage taking up space. I've googled the guys name with no luck and I tried to find laws about this with no luck. I've thought about setting it outside and sending him an email that it is outside if he ever wants to pick it up, but I don't feel like ruining a good motor. I just think its weird because I have not heard a single "hi" from this fellow. Options or Opinions?
  11. Just make sure your hood clears the radiator. I wanted to tilt mine forward more but then I wouldn't be able to raise the hood up. I'm not sure if your z would be like that or not.
  12. sup dood, hey what size injectors are you useing with your meth? thanks andy

  13. Those turbos are cheap for the 1.32 unit. They go for around 550. You can get the 64mm with a 1.10 a/r for about 460 or so new.
  14. It should come in around there but it depends on your cam, a/f, timing, ect. Put the waste gate as close to the merge as you can. Mine should have been closer as I get alittle creep at low boost. It holds anything over 10 pounds excellent though so I'm not changing because I'm not going lower than 15.
  15. My turbo was a s472 with a 1.22 a/r. I recently put smaller heads on (canfield 195 cc's) and a s475 with 1.10 a/r. I spooled it up to 8 pounds on the foot/ebrake no problem just under 3000 with the s475. You should have full boost by 3500. And my cam isn't that big. Just has .601 lift with 1.6 rockers. the duration is mild. the most mph I got in the 1/4 was 141 with the smaller (s472) turbo and brodix heads. With the weight of the car (3260 give or take 10 pounds) it comes out to around 628 rwhp. Hopefully with the smaller heads and s475 with the 1.10 a/r and bigger turbine wheels it will be alittle more. I've found out from talking to a couple guys that heads don't matter TOO much with forced induction engines. It seems just as fast as before, but the track will tell once I get it to my standards. The reason I say more hp with the new combo is because my air fuel won't be in the 10's before boost. Nice headers
  16. ktm is right. College summer classes make your brain think improperly. But with that small of nozzle you should be alright. If you haven't change anything since you put it on it will most likely be rich. When you tune either add some timing or pull some fuel but DO NOT do both at the same time. 30% mixture should drop your a/f ~.6 but that is with my motor and my setup.
  17. Alot of people run that. I have ran it. Just make sure you get the kinda that doesn't have any soap additives (the blue stuff). The only reason I stopped running it was because I wanted to experiment with different percents of alcohol so I just mixed my own.
  18. What did Rodney tell you? Did I read your post correctly and say that people are using a #3 nozzle before the turbo with the intercooler. If Rodney recommended you doing that then he's done it before on more than one car. It wouldn't matter if it was race or street because puddling would affect both. However the #3 nozzle is very small and it most likely vaporizes as soon as it is entered into the atmosphere. You should ask Rodney two questions. One would be the percent of alcohol that he was spraying because alcohol has a lower heat of vaporization than water. The second would be if the water/meth would condense back into a liquid in the intercooler after shutdown. Most likely the water/meth would be out of the charge pipe all together because it doesn't spray at low or no boost. Also with that small of nozzle I don't think the percent alcohol would matter much. But just ask him to be certain. Remember when I was told that it would cause puddling that was over a year ago. New data and tests could have changed that so it could be possible to run a nozzle before the intercooler now. I still run into people that putting a turbo or centrifugal can only work with fuel injection and there is a "trick" to my carburetor. Just because it was true back then doesn't mean its true now when especially when it comes to this turbo stuff. And company wouldn't tell you to do something that wouldn't make your car run right unless they tested it already.
  19. My car is a street car. It's been to the track 3 times since last year. I drive it on the street EVERYTIME I'm home from college for trips of an hour or longer. Many poeple that are non intercooled run a nozzle before the turbo/supercharger inlet and after the blowoff. Its almost a standard thing now. The reason I run two nozzles is because it cools the turbo like Tony D was saying and your not spraying one big stream of water/meth into the carb/throttle body. Its split up between two small nozzles so most of it is vaporized and it doesn't affect your car by having unequal distribution like a single stream would. Listen to Rodney. He knows what he's talking about and this isn't his first trip around the block. The reason AIS has become so popular is because his product works, he has good customer service, and he knows what he is talking about. After I finish my second turbo car I'll be ordering another system from him. The only way I would run an intercooler is if I wanted something to supercool the air which then I would use a water/air intercooler. The reasons I did not get an A/A intercooler is #1 They get heat soaked #2 It would be a pain in the ass to plumb #3 AIS system was cheaper #4 Poeple were seeing amazing results with the system like the one from AIS (I.E. could run the same boost and timing on 93 with water/meth as you could with c16 and make close(within 8) to the same power) I attached a picture of my setup.
  20. I have a water/meth system from AIS (alcohol injection system). The engine is non-intercooled. I have a nozzle before the turbo and a nozzle right after the blowoff valve. The way they explained it to me is that the high psi pump will allow the water/meth to vaporize so you are not actually spraying a "liquid" into the propellers. I have been running it for over a year with no problems of detonation or the turbo (still looks new) and have ran as high as 17 psi on 8.8:1 compression and 93 pump gas. It seems to work very well and the intake tube is still "cool" after a 1/4 mile run. However, if you are running an intercooler you should not put a nozzle before the turbo because it will cause puddling. If you are looking for a system then I highly recommend AIS! Those guys know what their doing from experience and testing. Their customer service is excellent as well, which to me, may be worth a few extra bucks because you can gain knowledge by asking them questions and they KNOW the product they sell and how it works unlike some other companies. Another thing to think of is have you ever seen a propeller that the KNOWN damage was caused from a water/meth system? From the years I've been researching I have yet to see one personally and only heard rumors about it. I'll take testing over rumors.
  21. duramax with a turbo 400 would probably be most likely. I think they have about the same dimensions as a bbc. I'm sure all of you know about the duramaxx powered mustang that runs in the 9's and gets 33mpg or something like that. Be ready to spend some money though unless you find a good deal on one. For a used stock engine they have been going for about 3500-6000 depending on miles and year. I've been looking.
  22. At 5 psi you should not have a problem. You'll have to reseal the intake of course with some RTV. The biggest problem I've seen is around 10 psi. Thats when it starts pushing oil out the breathers. I've ran as high as 17 and it is more of a flow of oil out the breathers. A surge tank will fix this. On two forced induction motors we haven't had a problem with the intake sealing using rtv at the front and rear. If you don't have oil out the breathers it's most likely a bad seal. Also if you have your jetting spaced out like I had mine 81 primary 94 secondary you'll have to be carefull with that due to uneven distibution of fuel. I saw some heat on my #1 and #2 pistons when I changed my heads. BRPV's will take care of that problem. At low boost (>10psi) though you should'nt have a problem. Good luck and don't get frustated with it because it's a blast with a good tune!
  23. Define "screaming." I can cruise about 60 at 3000 rpms with 26" tire and 3.54 rear and a loose 8" converter. You could get a gear vendors overdrive unit. I would try a taller tire or a tighter converter. Your transmission or converter could also be slipping. Do some calculations and see what rpm it SHOULD be at the certain mph.
  24. So it is official now? There were rumors going around about reopening but no official statement. I might head down there with my zx sometime. I'm shooting to go to Mason Dixon on the 25th of April with my new setup...driving there and back of course.
  25. I believe it's a 10 point for the 9's or 135+ in NHRA rules.
