  1. I'm back after a long hiatus. Went flyfishing and haven't been working on the car. I've farmed out the last little bits to a specialty shop to get it started, but there's still a lot left to do. Can't wait to get the thing running No sense in making this difficult. The space is very limited anyway with the turbos and a V8. Simply use a tee off your oil pressure port. and you can still hook your oil pressure sensor.
  2. I'd rather drive the Toyota. Can you imagine how much fun you could have liftung up cars and driving them around the yard?
  3. By now, you've probably sloughed the skin underneath the abrasions. Those stringy white things you see are tendons. Now, if you want to save your hand, I'd get myself some fishing line and needles and you'll need that bourbon. Then, use some of that excess skin from that "tentpole", trim it into a little skin flap (you'll need help from the wife with this part) , and sew it to the back of your hand to cover those tendons and bone. You will notice that your hand is attatched to your groin. That's why we call it a "groin flap". It's a time honored way of covering severe defects to the back of the hand. Look it up if you don't believe me. You will need to divide the flap in about 3 weeks. I suggest dropping the tranny on your pecker to do this (drink the bourbon first). OK, I'm being a little silly, but it's early in the morning and I can't sleep. By the way, that's the best wedding outfit I've ever seen-not you, the bride.
  4. Sweet. I didn't kmow others on the forum were into old military rifles too. They are the reason I haven't been working on the car for a while. I recently picked up a Spanish Mauser and I am sporterizing a few others. I bought a 1938 Mosin Nagant just yesterday for $99. It gives me chills to think that the last time it may have been fired was in Stalingrad! I also recently got an M1 carbine that I'll take to the range today.
  5. I've seen that one-wasn't impressed. I think she was doing some trade show in a bikini. As for the upgrades, I think she may have already had them recently. She has a regular column about cars in one of those men's magazines (FHM?) and she looks "fuller" somehow.
  6. Awesome brakes! You'll need them. You had the most insane project going on HybridZ and I wondered where you went. Keep us posted.
  7. Hanns, It's coming along slowly of course. I have hooked up a giant fuel system, and that is the last of the major systems that needs to be done. Now I have to tie up loose ends (as in, what are all these loose wires doing here?) . If I put my nose to the grindstone I could fire it up in a couple weeks, but work is killing me. Sometime before summer though for firing up. There will still be a lot of work after that to get the car completely done-of course, we all know it never gets completely finished. As far as the stealth ram plenum, I know there is a custom one out there that is lower, but I could TIG weld one for just a few bucks (as soon as I learn to tig weld!). I guess I'm going to stay with my hi-rise Victor Jr. type manifold with a verrrry short turbo hat.
  8. Ok, I know that this thread more properly belongs in the Chicks gallery, but I thought that Courtney deserves a special place here. After all, she isn't some mindless car chick without a voice. Sure, I admit that she doesn't add a whole lot the the car projects on Overhaulin' , but I don't think I would even watch that "pimp my ride" type show without her. Those projects don't even interest me. She does though.
  9. Mike, I want to be your wife. Didn't you get her a decent set of wheels not too long ago? I'm not much of a BMW fan myself, but I recently backed into my brother's 2003 M3. Since I had backed into my wife's Audi the month before, I told him I would take care of it without going through the insurance company. He left the car with me for a while until I could get it fixed. I have to say, that thing was a lot of fun. Great suspension for a sedan, and the motor wasn't too bad. I told him that I have the first right of refusal if he should ever decide to sell it.
  10. Actually, you should have come with me to the range this afternoon. I had my Bushie Varminter. I have been having a tough time getting it zeroed because my scope was way off. I estimate it was about three feet off when I started the afternoon. I got it dialed in though, and it did exactly what it shows on the Bushmaster website-put three shots in an area the size of a dime at 100 yards, time after time. I think this is even more accurate than my Savage at intermediate range, if that's possible with a semi-auto. From what I hear, if it gets even a little over 1 MOA, I should send it back to the factory. Can't wait to try my AR10 with its better ballistics. Yes, it might be more difficult shooting armed prarie dogs on the run, but I've had decent training in scout shooting. I'll never know for real though, since my wife will kill me if I shoot furry little critters.
  11. My 93 is doing just fine at near 95K miles. I have thought about getting a new motor, but I can't justify it right now. It's a blast to drive and abuse, and the G forces squish my brain against the side of my skull.
  12. Tony, You are absolutely right. I don't like politics anyway because in the hands of overly passionate armed liberals like me, it's just too dangerous. Besides, this thread is just Aux's humor showing through. Heck, it's like Neo-nazi's showing up at a Bar Mitzvah. It would have been just as funny.
  13. Being one to blow tons of green before getting it right, I would say that any setup is tight. You just have to rely on the members here and hope for the best. I had my heart set on a Stealth Ram, and even with a custom low rise setup, it would have been close. I tell myself I have to be prepared to add a hood scoop. Heck, I may have to add some hood blisters for my turbos. It's going to be really close.
  14. Tony, No, I don't think greenpeace would have me, but I don't agree with them either. Believe it or not, there are radical environmentalists who agree with me that humans are a pestilence on this earth and deserve to do themselves in. The beauty is that we don't have to do anything at all. We just have to let the bubbas in the red states make it happen. That's why I support W's attempt to gut clean air and water standards. I don't have to be like one of those militant Earth Liberation Front types, the rednecks will do it for us. As far as being a gun nut and my liberal beliefs, many conservatives find that hard to understand because they tend to compartamentalize things. Recent surveys indicate that about 30% of liberals are pistol owners, and that does not include long gun ownership. Unlike conservative owners, I don't see the world as a dangerous place and none of my guns are meant for home defense-I would never shoot a human or anything living for that matter, and I detest hunters because most of them are rotten shots. I happen to use my guns only for target shooting as I found out about a year ago that I have an unusual natural talent as a rifleman-I get disgusted with myself when I have anything over 1 inch groups at 100 yards in the offhand standing position with iron sights. I happen to be a liberal in that I think society's resources should be used to help the poor. I believe this even though I pay a huge amount in taxes (a quarter of a million last year)-I have never complained because I appreciate living in this great country that allows me to make a great living and I am willing to pay my fair share. It's kind of like country club membership. I also like a strong federal government to keep order, set standards, protect civil liberties of minorities, etc. For those of you who don't like it, I can suggest a country without much government control whatsoever, where you can do pretty much anything you want, and anyone can own a gun without passing a background check--might I suggest Iraq? I hear that our government is offering free trips with basic accomodations for able bodied men.
  15. Personally, I think those Green Peace folks are going about it the wrong way. You see, I'm, a tree hugger too, and I've decided that trying to save the environment is misguided. The earth has been here for billions of years. Our species, maybe ten thousand years. The earth doesn't need humans on it to survive, and humans have become a contagion. I've come to the conclusion that the human race must become extinct through global warming. The earth will do just fine after a few millenia after we have exterminated ourselves. That's why I try to create global warming by driving a SUV and putting twin turbo chevy's into Z cars. So, burn fossil fuels, my friends. As for what I would have done in this situation, well lets just say that I am the most heavily armed liberal I know. I have nearly 20 firearms including 5 AR15's (including a 50 caliber model meant for destroying an engine block at long range), an AR10, 4 AK47's including a .308 winchester model, and a Savage 10 FP sniper rifle for reaching out and touching someone at long range. It's an unhealthy obsession that has kept me from making progress on my turbo V8 lately. I would like to see how some of those juiced up traders would do staring down the business end of my AR15 Beowulf. I'll bet they pee in their pants. And don't any of your guys start flaming me or I'm gonna blow a bowling ball sized hole in your engine block.
  16. I'm speechless, Also, you mean the turbos don't really glow red like I see in a lot of photos? Makes me feel a lot better.
  17. With my flipped over, upside down modified LT1 headers, my turbo housings are about as close as you can get to the heads-real efficient. However, I am disturbed by all those pictures of glowing red hot turbo housings and downpipes. I'm worried about my hood and also the oil drain tubes. I get visions of them melting and spilling oil all over the road (and melting my engine) if I don't keep the oil drains away from the intense heat.
  18. My wife would probably pay people to cart parts away. In fact, she forced me at gunpoint to give someone on HybridZ some stainless steel headers for free! About a year ago, I had my first car I ever owned stolen from the parking lot at her dad's office (I was storing it there). It was a Rabbit GTI that I got after high school graduation 20 years ago and I tricked it out over the years. I loved that thing and I called it a classic landmark car, kinda like the prequel to the new MINI. My wife thought it was a piece of junk. I swear she had something to do with its disappearance, but she denied it. Anyway, I was so broken up over that that she let me get a $6000 3rd Gen RX7 off of EBAY--a little body work needed but a major score and I saved it from the junkyard By the way, John has a super clean ZX conversion that served as the prototype for Motorsport Auto's conversion kit. It sounds awesome and is a lot faster than my Twin Turbo 280 (if only because mine is on jackstands)
  19. A third gen with an LS1. Hmmmm. I always thought it wasn't fair that I had run un Superstock with all those Z06 Vettes. Maybe I should look into an LS6 swap. I'd fit right in. Then again, I love the turbo rush and the uniqueness of this car. One problem I have autocrossing it is that I have this bias that it isn't that fast and it has infinite grip. Nothing could be further from the truth. I can easily overpower the car, and I can spin out easily if I want. One thing is indisputible, though. It is one of the most beautiful cars around. I get more attention in it than a hot chick. Ricers stare in awe and gold chain wearing Porsche and Vette drivers always want to race me. Love this car.
  20. That's why I love HybridZ! I've gotten pretty good at figuring out solutions to car problems, but I never would have thought of that one. Why not remove the hood mechanism? None of my other cars have anything more than a prop rod. Thanks for the suggestion.
  21. Good engine choice. I was deep into my 383 build whe the ZZ383 hit the market with tons of torque/horsepower at a good price. I understand all the concerns about a lot of torque in a light car (remember, even a 280 weighs less than a modern honda civic). On the other hand, a lot of people here run 383's and 400's, and they don't mind the extra torque at all. Heck, there was a picture of a small block 427 Zcar in Hot Rod doing a wheelstand, and I'm sure that guy liked the torque
  22. Reminds me of what a new young OR nurse said to me when she saw me stuffing a silicone breast implant in through a small incision. "You'll never get the big thing in there!" "That's what all the girls tell me" , I said Obviously, we don't prosecute sexual harrassment in the operating room, we grade it. As for the turbos and manifolds, I basically took a Corvette LT1 header, cut the bottom off of it and welded a T3 flange onto it. It has a nice heat shield and in the current configuration, places the turbos directly onto the header, which is very thermally efficient. The turbos ore Buick grand nationals, so they are kinda like a T3T4 hybrid. I swapped out the turbine housing for an SVO Ford mustang housing, however (Same A/R ratios) because it had the standard T3 flange--yes it fits just perfectly. The intercooler is off of EBay from Hong Kong. Fairly good price and just the right size for the space in front of the radiator. If I were to do it again, I would go with a bigger single turbo-the plumbing is much easier, and with a 383 in a light car, turbo lag is not that much of an issue. I only went with twins as an engineering exercise.
  23. Yup, somewhere under all that tubing is a Chevy engine. It took a lot of thought, trial and error to get it all to route properly. That's why I haven't been around on the board lately. I hope the hood closes. Otherwise, I'll have to modify it in a few places. I think it will, though. As for spark plugs, I'll probably have to remove my downpipes to get at the plugs. I managed to turn a spacious engine bay into a cramped little compartment.
  24. Do the end tanks interfere with the hood spring mechanism?. My intercooler is about the same size, but because the inlet and outlet come straight out, the 90 degree silicone elbows interfere. I'll either have to get really tight radius silicone elbows (cheaper solution) or modify the end tanks so that the inlet/outlet thingys point straight back into the engine compartment. Or, I could just buy yours.
