  1. If road racing is his stated purpose, I would get a Spec Miata. He'll save tons of money as there should be plenty of them around, and lots of folks to race against.
  2. That's if you wire them in parallel. If you wire them in series you get your baseline horsepower to the tenth power. In other words, enough power to move the earth off its axis.
  3. It's like my patients who want DD breast implants but don't want to look "fake"
  4. No matter what I end up doing with my RX7, I will always keep my Z, because it got me into the swap game. Besides, even though it's not the ultimate as far as a sports car, the engine bay sure does look intimidating now. I agree that the Mazda is much more refined, and putting an LSX in it would be so.....wrong, which is exactly why I would want to do it.
  5. Mike, I'm glad you're more restrained with women than you are with cars. You'd really be in trouble!!!!
  6. Thanks for the reassurance on the cam. I was not quite sure how it would do with the turbos. My goal was to be able to reliably drive the thing to the track, so idle quality was important, and the reason for the boost was to be able to chase down the pesky Vettes down the straights..
  7. I found the cam specs. It's a Comp Cams Extreme Energy 270 hydraulic roller. Complete specs can be found here: http://www.compcams.com/Technical/Search/CamDetails.asp?PartNumber=08-422-8 Again, more for streetability at lower RPM than all out turbo performance. As for the choice of the Buick GN turbos, they can be found everywhere and I wanted to keep this a budget install. It didn't turn out that way and I ended up rebuilding the turbos anyway. I would have done better to purchase turbos that are more optimized to the application, but as our resident GN expert Scottie has indicated, they aren't bad either.
  8. It's been so long since I started the project that I can't remember off the top of my head what the cam is, but it's purpose was for a streetable, smooth idling normally aspirated stroker motor and not optimized for a turbo application. Lift was about .480 at .050. I agree that an extra 150 hp with a more aggressive cam is optimistic.
  9. Yeah, what John said. Man, you guys are smart. The physics part of my brain has atrophied.
  10. First of all, I would go through the car and check for spare change. Who knows, you might find a few dollars, and if it was a former drug runner, you might find a whole stash of cash that someone forgot about.
  11. That's exactly what I need as I can't get my air filters, which are at the back of the engine bay, under the stock hood. I'll pass though, as I'm told there's someone out there that can make one for me for $500
  12. Thank you so much for saving that thing. I almost felt obligated to myself, but my wife wouldn't let me.
  13. Thanks Mr. Grumpy. Despite all the complex stuff I've been forced to learn in my 30+ years of education, cams are something I haven't fully understood. I'm sure these links will help.
  14. Thanks for the input. Looks like I'll be swapping out the rear shocks and springs a little stiffer.
  15. Thanks for the advice, cause it gives me a ballpark to shoot for. I'll probably end up biting the bullet and getting new dampers for exactly the reason you mentioned.
  16. OK, my TTV8 car is running, and there are things I haven't considered during the build. I originally put on 225 lb/in coilovers at all 4 corners. The car squats so hard right now that I need significantly stiffer springs during acceleration. What setup do most of you in this situation. Car is to be used for autocross/road course/occasional street use to dust the pesky ricer and middle aged Porsche/Vette/Viper owner. Do you run a rear sway bar? I wasn't going to. My shocks are Illuminas and while not optimal, they are new and I don't want to toss them.
  17. I was in such a hurry to get the car home the other night that I didn't ask for the dyno sheet. Drax, you're right about not just looking at the peak. Point well taken.
  18. Wow, those look too nice to put on a car. They belong in an art museum
  19. That's how I got my 93 RX7. I saved it from the crusher when I found it on EBay. This one looks adoptable and it's not too far away. My wife would kill me though.
  20. John, you are welcome to take a look at any time. Scottie, I was looking up Buick turbo stuff this morning and I was surprised to see you on the Buick forums. Then again, you are our resident Buick expert.
  21. By the way Mike, I printed up a T-shirt with your avatar as inspiration. I thought it was really funny. My wife won't let me wear it in public and frankly, I haven't gotten up the nerve to show it to anyone. I'm sure it would offend a lot of people!
