Like others said, don't buy it til you need it. I bought the starter kit over 6 months ago, tried to use some last month, and was wondering why it looked like PlayDoh! Used some of it in the beginning though, I found that it peels on thin surfaces that flex, which seems natural. I wonder how it stands up to engine heat though? Owen

I'm guessing from your post saying "L26" that the car is a 260Z. In that case, switching to '72 carbs may be illegal cuz theyre older than the car itself. But you can always swap them back to the stock ones come smog check time. Depends on how handy you are but I would get at least a full performance exhaust, K&N air cleaner, and shocks/springs. This will at least make the car fun to drive and pleasant to listen to. At smog time swap the exhaust etc. back to stock. You said "can't" beat the Hondas but I think you meant the opposite? Owen

10 feet of hose isnt enough for me, which is why im looking for more in the first place. i need 6 feet on one side to mount it next to the horn, hose has a little slack though owen

Thanks for the Napa info SleeperZ...now I gotta decide... BLKMGK, Can you tell me which part numbers you used for the hose and fittings? I still may just go with the hoses only. Also, let me know how the installation of the bypass thing goes, it sounds like the same thing I mentioned in the oil filters post. Owen

I saw that socketless hose too, looks like that's what I'm gonna use! I don't thing I'm gonna buy the sockets though, I should be able to slide them onto the filter relocator fittings and clamp them on like regular rubber hoses. Plus the relocator doesn't have AN fittings, I'd have to buy the clamps as well as pipe fittings for the clamps. 1/2" ID is about a -8 hose? Thanks, Owen

You might wanna take a look at the V8Z air cleaners post if you haven't already. Seems like a lot of work for an air cleaner... I have a 3-inch pipe going thru the hole next to the radiator, don't know if your car has this or not. The pipe puts the K&N in front of the radiator but not smack in the middle of it. Mikelly said this was hole for air to the ****pit or something, but I'll sacrifice myself to get cool air to the engine instead. A lot of the tuned turbo Zs use this hole for intercooler piping so it shouldn't be too bad. Owen

Yeah, I heard 125 lbs for the T56. Owen

I was talking to someone else who makes faces for the Autometers and maybe other brands. http://www.datsundecals.com/ Owen

What is and where do I get this hydraulic hose? Thanks, Owen

Interesting because I can't find just a regular rubber hose! I mounted my remote oil filter thing way up front and now I need another hose...so I go to the local stores and all they have is heater hoses and fuel hoses. They can't tell me if oil will work in it or not. I don;t see oil being more corrosive than fuel...any suggestions? Thanks, Owen

Instability, high speed handling?
Owen replied to jeromio's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Ahhh, I can't remember the direct maker of my air dam....Kaminari maybe? It;s the same urethane one that MSA sells, I'm sure they have plastic/glass ones too. If the airdam moves, maybe a switch to a front end thats entirely one piece is the way to go? I may be wrong here, but wouldnt increasing caster (towards the back) improve your straight line stability? Turning the wheel at a stop would become more difficult though. What about changing the steering knuckles? Owen -
I had to press my pins in. If youre hammering, put the nut on so you dont crush the threads. If I ever do this again I'm gonna sand or grind down the outside of the pin so it;s not such a tight fit. These don't have to be crazy tight do they? I mean that little pin in the middle keeps them from rotating too much anyway... Owen

Disabling the bypass ensures all oil gets filtered right? I like the point about the air filter, theres really no other way dirt can get into the engine right? From Jegs, "Red Baron Replace your factory Chevy oil filter mounting plate with this CNC machined billet aluminum adapter. Eliminates the oil filter bypass for cleaner, consistent oil filtration... 812-RB102 $45" This seems to eliminate the bypass when this is screwed onto the block but I wonder how a remote locater would be attached to this, just a simple screw on too? Funny, this is one of the first things I did! (I needed to pratice welding one something...). Must be my ricer roots too. While I don't have a carb setup, any box around the intake with an inlet hole will do. I used 3-inch muffler piping and welded it into an s-shaped piece that goes from the throttle body through the round hole by the radiator (this determined my tubing size) and capped the end with a K&N. It's right next to the headlight so I don't have to worry about water or anything getting on it. A little maybe, but I'll just call it a form of water injection Check out Mike Kelly's setup too. Owen

I can't remember the number but there is a certain wire good for welding thin metal and that is also easy to grind off. I would avoid bondo if at all possible, fiberglass sounds good though. Owen

Welcome! Definitely draw up a plan on what you want and kind of parts will get you there. After the JTR book, I think the Summit Racing catalog is the next best friend to a lot of us here it sure drained my wallet... If you're thinking mild HP and very little racing, you can get by on stock used or new parts. Once you start thinking about bigger brakes, and wheels, and coilovers, etc... Check out the webpages of each member here too. Good luck. where in cali are you? Owen

Article on Removing Frozen Brake Drums
Owen replied to a topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
No way! Like I said, I knew I wouldn't need the drums anymore so I sacrificed them to the gods of speed BUT, I did see a cross drilled front strut tower bar in an effort to lose weight! Owen -

A little too late for me...in switching to rear discs I couldn't get the dang things off! No heat, no hammering, nothing. So in the end, I grabs my trusty grinder with 4.5" disc and slice thru the sucker from lip to center. Then took a crowbar into the newly cut slot and pried it off. Warning: don't try this if you intend to keep using your drums Owen -
C'mon guys, let's protect the environment! We were talking about this at work and that's what prompted me to create the logo for my entrance page on my web site. "...a catalytic what?" I live in SoCal and have a '73. I knew swaps had to be approved by the referee station and all, but is that for smog only? Or is it to make sure the swap is safe, etc? I haven't taken any action yet. I think Hoover was asking me about blow thru setups before? Search for his email on this site and ask him, he might be able to help. Owen ------------------ http://www.homestead.com/s30z/index.html

300zx rotors and Toyota V6 caliper prob
Owen replied to Owen's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Just bolting up like you said, The caliper is hitting the inside face of the rotor. I can hear and feel it dragging. Also, when the spindle nut is tight, the inside face of the rotor get pressed against the caliper mounting bracket. Owen ------------------ http://www.homestead.com/s30z/index.html -
BLKMGK, You can get them in Summit too. I got mine from Myron (I think, bought so much stuff from so many different people ). You just bolt it on and then screw on the filter or the bypass adapter. Owen ------------------ http://www.homestead.com/s30z/index.html

Shouldn't this go under the "Are we ingenious or just cheap" thread? Looks like a lot of work...If you saw my progress on LED taillites, you'll know I gave up because I hate soldering! These MSD pills don't cost that much do they? And as for pills tailored to your needs, can't you just use the MSD rpm selector dial thing? Cheap I am, but if I'm gonna get pissed trying to do something I'll just buy it! Owen ------------------ http://www.homestead.com/s30z/index.html

Thanks Rick, Too bad it's no one I know! Had some people at work here thinking it was my wife for a while Owen ------------------ http://www.homestead.com/s30z/index.html

I have the Energy Suspension bushings on my73, the same thing happened. But somehow I managed to coax them in. Did you try inserting the smaller portion into the bigger portion diagonally (get one side in first and force the other side in). The bushings should compress just enough to get a real tight fit on both sides. Owen ------------------ http://www.homestead.com/s30z/index.html
