    Fender Flares

I have the 240ZG flares but didn't cut or bend the original lip. The bottom of the flare is level with the bottom of the stock lip. Seems like it's ok for now. There are pix on my page, follow the "see what inspired me to get a zcar link". Owen ------------------ http://www.homestead.com/s30z/index.html
  2. Hey Mike, I'm not worried about the calipers, I just wrote them off as cores that I bought from someone instead of scouring the junkyards myself. Strange how you could get them to move though. I even hooked it up the the brake lines and only 1 or 2 out of the 4 would move. Oh well, like I said, not a problem anymore. As for the spacer you mention, you are referring to the one I bought from you? Or something else? Hell, I could have 280 hubs...I had a 260 door... I made up a small spacer to keep the rotor off the strut. Owen ------------------ http://www.homestead.com/s30z/index.html
  3. $40 for a plastic hose?! I don't even remember what the hose looked like that came with my T56 set. And how does this plastic hose stand up to twin clutch discs? Nothing is hugely wrong with my setup, just leaking and I could rethread the slave, I just don't wanna mess up the same way twice. Owen ------------------ http://www.homestead.com/s30z/index.html
  4. Recycle! That's the word! Don't you hate it when you buy something you can't return or is too much of a PITA to return? Like mail order? The best feeling is when you pull that thing out again a couple of months later, chop it up, and use it from something else. I did that with a wrong upper alternator bracket I bought, chopped it up and used it to mount my remote oil filter adapter. Yeah! Owen ------------------ http://www.homestead.com/s30z/index.html
  5. Farilady327's right, people at the office look at me like I'm crazy or like they feel sorry for me (like I haven't been able to grow up yet). To them a car is something that gets them around. To us, it's a lifestyle. (hey, that's pretty good!) And we're not totally cheap! We spend good money on the critical parts don't we? Owen ------------------ http://www.homestead.com/s30z/index.html
  6. What's a squirrel cage? Dang it, I threw away my blower case! Gotta find a new one. Owen ------------------ http://www.homestead.com/s30z/index.html
  7. Thanks Mike, So even with the T5 you had to tap the inlet? I tried to find a hose for the Blazer slave but no parts store could find it. But then I would need the M/C for the hose style as well...this sux. Owen ------------------ http://www.homestead.com/s30z/index.html
  8. An easy exit if you never wear seatbelts What are the rules on fuel pumps inside the car? I wasn't sure so I mounted mine outside... Owen ------------------ http://www.homestead.com/s30z/index.html
  9. Actually I bought them from him as "used" but I didnt think the pistons would be that bad. Found a solution to my spacing question though, took one of my left over pipes from the rollcage and cut some slices off. I put those on the spindle and then put the rotor on. Fits great. Another thing though, I have to use spacer when mounting the caliper too. This is gonna be a pain every time I have to change pads. Thanks for your help guys, Owen ------------------ http://www.homestead.com/s30z/index.html
  10. Does the glass have to be cut at all for the frame mounted mirrors? Maybe I'm visualizing wrong, but I'd like to have one of those handles inside to adjust the mirror. Too many damn SUVs and high dollar import cars blinding me with their HIDs! Somewhat down at the bottom of my to do list is to get one of those pull down window shades for the back window. I'm gonna replace the shade with aluminum foil or something and have it attached to a cable which I can pull at the front. High Beam This! 11. OK, whos gonna be the first to use airlift suspensions on their HybridZ? That skid plate is a good idea. For slow speeds I was gonna get one of those wire thingies that came on cars a long time ago, they stuck out the side and told you how close you were to the curb. Owen ------------------ http://www.homestead.com/s30z/index.html
  12. Lone, The adapter spins onto the block. Your're probably right about it bypassing oil around the filter, thats what I get for buying Harbor Freight priced stuff with the Summit brand name on it! I think I'll check out that billet unit in Summit. And get some braided lines while I'm at it. Thanks. Owen ------------------ http://www.homestead.com/s30z/index.html
  13. That picture scared the hell out of me! Good one! And like someone said, you get what you pay for at Harbor Freight. I bought one of those forks to remove a ball joint and the damn fork ends bent in separate directions! My hydraulic press is holding up pretty well though. Any my $20 disc grinder and $4 one man brake bleeder kit! Haw Haw! Owen ------------------ http://www.homestead.com/s30z/index.html

    94-later t5?

fairlady 327, While youre at that GM yard, try and find a metal bodied slave cylinder with a threaded inlet and a bleeder screw! Project Wangan '01? You me and everyone else It's a race to see who finishes first! Owen ------------------ http://www.homestead.com/s30z/index.html
  15. After searching thru the archives, I've seen that JuJu has used a mid 80's T5 and F-150 M/C, and I belive Mike Kz used this on his T56? No threading was done from what I read. Someone else used a S-10 Blazer slave, Grannys Speed Shop talks about this as well. I bought with the intention of returning, an S-10 slave (1992), looks sorta like the T56 slave, thinner, and has a bleed screw. It's plastic though. So my next question is, MikeKz did you actually use the T5 slave? What M/C? I'm hoping I can keep my tilton M/C and find a hose or hose nipple to use to connect to the S-10 slave OR find a metal bodied T5 slave from something else and find a hose for it. It;s a shame to get rid of that braided line though... Owen ------------------ http://www.homestead.com/s30z/index.html
  16. So is the M/C swap and booster a good thing to do? Do I get them both from the same year car? DrewZ, What adjusting rod are you talking about? Owen ------------------ http://www.homestead.com/s30z/index.html
  17. The parts didnt come as soon as I wanted but I'm not dissatisfied, except for the caliper pistons which were seized. The calipers were loaded though, pad holding bolts and pads. I don't know if the pads require shims though, but easy to find out. Thanks for the tip Hoover, I was thinking about that today. One interesting thing right now, I used shims to center the caliper but, if I tighten the caliper mounting bolts all the way, the rotor seizes. If I tighten the spindle nut all the way, the rotor seizes. I think its an issue with the spacer used between the bearings, but I kept the same ones on the same axles...Is there a big washer/spacer that goes between the rear of the hub and the flat part of the strut where the spindle sticks out? I don't feel safe with that spindle nut not tightened all the way. Owen ------------------ http://www.homestead.com/s30z/index.html

    Tranny fluid

I filled my T-56 with fluid the other day, 3.5 quarts. There is some seepage in one area, the plate between the bellhousing and the tranny body. I really don't wanna drain the tranny, pull the engine, diassemble, etc.etc. Although, there appears to be a rubber seal in that area, I can tell cuz there is some sticking out in other places. What do I do? Just live with it and refill at every oil change? Thanks, Owen PS Is it just me or does anyone else think that tranny fluid looks really tasty? I had to stop myself from dipping my finger in and seeing if it tasted like cherry syrup! ------------------ http://www.homestead.com/s30z/index.html
  19. What is so special about the Russel Speed Bleeders? I have them on the rear calipers, but it seems that by just using my $2 one man brake bleeder kit (a clear tube and a bottle), I can get the job done just as easily. The kit has a plastic pointed tip that i stick into the end of the stock bleeder screw after opening it a crack. i pump the brakes and the fluid goes into the bottle. I'm thinking i dont even need the speed bleeders up front... Separate question. I have anti squeal grease and it says to rub some on the backside of the pads. How does that stop squeal when the pads themselves are the ones that ride the rotors? Thanks, Owen ------------------ http://www.homestead.com/s30z/index.html
  20. I got the 4x4 S12W calipers and 300ZX rotors from Mike-SCCA. First problem, the pistons were siezed so i traded them in as cores for some new ones at the local autozone. Second problem, the rotor rubs the caliper mounting bracket ever so slightly. Anyone else have this problem? I don't have a spacer or anything in between the rotor and the spindle, should I? Also, are there shims for the pads on these calipers? Thanks. Owen ------------------ http://www.homestead.com/s30z/index.html [This message has been edited by Owen (edited April 14, 2001).]
  21. Lone, You were right, it's me youre talking about in your first post. Driver block hugger to 90 degree bend under oil pan towards passenger side and meets passenger side block hugger. Both go into a single pipe tucked up into the tunnel. Sub frame connector is lower than the piping up until about where the rear shelf inside the car is. I am kinda worried about heat under the pan, but coated the pipes many times with heat paint. Pipes are 3 inch diameter. I also heard of some people hitting the pan on high bumps and stuff, part of the pipe is lower than the deep part of the pan...maybe oval or rectangle tubing is an option??? I should have some more pix up on my site later on. Owen ------------------ http://www.homestead.com/s30z/index.html
  22. I have an aftermarket remote oil filter kit, how can i tell if its the kind that doesnt use the oil bypass? I saw another kind in summit catalog that specifically said it bypasses the bypass. Owen PS can i use heater/coolant hose as an oil hose? I need another section for the remote filter. ------------------ http://www.homestead.com/s30z/index.html
  23. Saw this in the gallery at ZcarsOnline http://www.1upautomotive.com/zcarsonline/index.asp Looks like an interesting sway bar and rear control arm mount...or maybe its just the cleanliness that throws me off? http://www.1upautomotive.com/zcarsonline/center_page.asp?pic=art/carshows/cs040801/Disk1/Mvc-010s.jpg Owen ------------------ http://www.homestead.com/s30z/index.html
  24. There was a picture on zcar.com today. http://www.zcar.com/forums/read.php?f=1&i=180558&t=180558 My bad, its a VG30ET Owen ------------------ http://www.homestead.com/s30z/index.html
  25. I deal with them face to face and when they didn't have any parts in stock to sell me they went out and found me a used one or ripped something off a car they had there. Owen ------------------ http://www.homestead.com/s30z/index.html
