  1. Thanks Jon. Don't be surprised if I take you up on it. If I get on the stick I can fab up Petes front diff mount before the body man is ready. He's stalling. But he said it would be done by October. And thanks to you too Ron. Isn't it nice to have friends like Jon that will schedule your free time FOR you? You may have to Jon.
  2. You can check out the "My Displays" link below for picks and info on my tpi swap. I used the stock harness and saved the money. Lots of work, yes. But you learn a ton about the motor that way. Definitely buy a running donor car. You will need more parts off of it than you think. Buying a motor alone and all the other parts later will cost you much more. I've heard that some of the harness kits come with the smog wiring deleted. Not good in Cal with a pollution controlled car.
  3. Jon, I have Mike D.'s old R200 sitting in my garage. It has the correct side stubs and pilot flange on it for the swap. If you want to come by and check it out just let me know. When you're ready to swap yours let me know, I'll help if I can get out of my busy schedule. That way I can hit you up when I do mine.
  4. I measured 49 1/2" sitting on the ground. Mine is a '73, but I think they are the same.
  5. Very sharp Mike. Good lookin' wheels. How's the interior coming? Got those pricy seats in yet?
  6. I'm curious to discover if my exhaust mods will solve the problem or make it worse. Too little time in the drivers seat to tell at this point.
  7. Just as well. I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for Rory to make you a kit. Check out this site: Zcar body kits
  8. Lone you bad boy. Don't make me come down there and bail you outa' jail. Don't let them you. Az. osifer's just lookin' for Caiforny plates.
  9. The jtr kit is for the 1st gen Z's, '70-'78. The kit will do you no good. The book, however, will give you lots of valuable info. Well worth the price and should be your first purchace. At least 2 or 3 guys here have done the ZX swap. I'm sure they will pipe up with some help. Keep in mind that you will need an engine of the same year or newer and it will have to be smog legal if this is going to be a street car. The price of living in The Golden State.
  10. V6 Chevy van rad fits too. Same as Camaro but comes with a petcock. There are also aftermarket ones that fit too. I'm not familier with them but several guys here run them with mixed results.
  11. Atmospheric Supercharging is an oxymoron. And you're one if you buy it.
  12. Tom, if I remember you don't have a lot of room up front between the rad and the motor. If you can pull it back from the rad some that will help. I'd make the shroud to cover the whole core. Good point about limiting airflow at high speed. A way to counteract that without sacrificing the airflow your fan makes is to add barometric dampers to the shroud. Fancy word for backdraft flaps. Try it with out them first. You can always cut them in later. They would simply be flaps that cover holes in the shroud and are hinged at the top and open rearward. When the air being forced through the rad exceeds the pull from the fan they open letting more airflow through the rad. Give it a try, Tom. I've seen those types of fans and I always think, "They are wasting most of the power of that fan". Air conditioners are made as cheap as possible. They use the smallest, cheapest fan motor they can get away with and compensate for it with a good shroud because shrouds are cheap. They also make a tremendous difference. All A/C's, good and bad, use fan shrouds.
  13. Guys, I feel very confident that the problem can be solved with a proper shroud. I am an air conditioning technician and I know about heat transfer. I work with it everyday. If the radiator is of sufficient size, and it sounds like it is, and your fan can move enough air, and that sounds good too, then the problem is where is the air moving. The guy that recommended sealing off the rad support was right. But a good shroud will help more. You must pull cool air through the rad. Wherever it goes from there is meaningless. I have personally witnessed the drastic change in temperature of a liquid when a shroud is removed or damaged. Others, no doubt, will argue with me on this but just try it. Shrouds can be made cheaply with simple sheetmetal. You don't need to be an engineer. Look at a couple on any car that has one and just make one that fits and looks like it. JTR is dead right on this one.
  14. I think it was 10-12 gal. before "clearancing". That may have cost me another 1/2 gal. Not a long haul machine. Life is full of compromises.
  15. Lone always manages to say it right. Nobody here owns stock in jtr. And, there are some mistakes in the books too, albeit, not many. As wonderful as this site is, it will not replace a book. Ever crawl under your Z with your monitor? Lots of grease and hand written notes on my copy. Can you do it in 30 days? Not likely if you are like most of us, i.e., job, wife, limited funds. First off get your priorities straight. Make up with your wife. Treat her better than you treat yourself, or the car. A marriage should last a lifetime. This car project, no matter how jazzed about it you are now, will someday mean very little to you. If you fight with your wife over this Z project you will be satisfied with neither. Bring her into it and make it her project too and it will be a joy to both of you. $20 for the marriage counseling. I accept paypal.
  16. Hey that radiator is on the mark. That's the one I'm using. Basicly the same as the Camaro except it comes with a petcock. I had to trim a few molding "ribs" off one tank to fit but no big deal. Used a 4" grinder. Took about 8 seconds. I don't know what's up with you guys and your air chisels. I had no problem cutting them off with the sawzall. Zip, zip, gone. Got the right blade? I had so much fun I whipped it on the rear floor as well!
  17. Hot ticket gZ. I remember that day. Did you get a new jtr book with the kit? If so, is it a seventh or eighth edition? The fun begins! Remember, sawzall is yo friend.
  18. If you are unfamiliar with EFI, as I was, using the factory harness will give you a very good education. Take it one component at a time and it's not that difficult. You will learn a lot about how it works and have some chance at trobleshooting down the road. Make sure you get everything including the fan and fuel pump relays and the VATS box.
  19. Lookin' good Terry. Paint color looks mighty familiar. Viper blue?
  20. Hey Tim, just havin' a little fun. Don't mean to pick on you. And, I agree, that is some nice plywood.
  21. I did like Mike kZ and welded a sump on. Again, this required welding. When I did mine I drilled holes in the bottom of the tank instead of cutting it out. This effectively turned the bottom of the tank into a baffle to combat fuel starvation. Scott, you live in Lodi. Did you come to the Rio Vista meet?
  22. Very cool Tim. But could you post a bigger pic? I can just barely see it. Sorry, I really should upgrade this dinky 21" monitor.
  23. Yup, what he said. Got mine from Ross C. Very, very happy. IMHO, $400 IS cheap. Ross is very helpful. Treated me like a best friend.
  24. Good luck contacting Rory. He has no interest in computers or the internet. He likes to be elusive and doesn't like people calling him. I think Eric at ZParts has more pics he has not put up yet. You might want to hit the JY's and just cut the top off a 280ZX and start fitting. From Rory's work it looks like the fit is pretty close. Thanks for the compliments. Viper Blue.
  25. Here it is. It's a bad shot I know. Sorry, best I could do on such short notice.
