  1. Dang! Well those Ford guys got to be first at something. JUST KIDDING!
  2. Ross C. can clear this all up. But I'm pretty sure you need front calipers from a '89-'91 Toyota 4Runner. They should say on them S12W. You'll still need the spacer.
  3. I plan on running NO side marker lights. However, if the law insists I too have been eyeing oval lights. One interresting shape is on the new ford full size trucks with duels. The duel fender extentions have these cute little oval marker lights. They are the same shape and come in both red and amber.
  4. Here is a shot of what it should look like when you're done. Sorry I didn't take progress shots. It would have explained a lot more. The rear fenders were filleted to accommodate the larger tires. Instead of welding I took the advice of a kitcar builder who has done this on Z cars many times before. The outer fender is cut in an arch that matches the maximum radius of the inner fender. The inner fender is sliced radially about every 2". The slices are bent up and over the outer fender, trimmed, and secured with sheet metal screws to the outer fender. Then all the holes and slots are sealed up with a special HVAC duct tape that has an aluminum top and very sticky caulk like under side that is self-healing and permanently seals out air and water.
  5. Yup, what Nate said. Plus, this reattaches the wheel house to the outer fender. When they are saparated it weekens the car back there considerably.
  6. Good news Mr. Potter. Wonder why I got the reply I did? 3503 is the number mine was. Bolted right up, you should have no trouble.
  7. Welcome ZCC. Yup, you found the right place. Where the favorite tools are the air chisel and the sawzall. Gotta talk to Lone. He's done that. Here are some shots of his car from the Rio Vista Hob Nob.
  8. I can't fight the urge to jump on the Ross C. bandwagen. He's the best. Treated me better than family. Nuff said. (We need a little Chicono graemlin with his arms folded)
  9. Hey Brett, I used the upper support from the TA I got the motor out of. It had the larger rad so I just cut the middle out of it with my power mitre saw. It was easy. Already has the rubber mounts and has a factory look.
  10. Don't get me wrong Eric, I'm not dismissing your concepts on making fully custom taillights as opposed to adapting lights from another car. It's just a far greater degree of difficulty. Now you not only need to be a designer/artist in metal (or fiberglass, or both). Now you need to be able to do all that plus form plastic, understand light refraction, get DOT approval.... It's all fine and dandy to brainstorm about working without boundaries, Horatio. But for those of us that are actually going to attempt this we have to be realistic. What can a fully employed husband with two kids and no time on a limited budget do with the parts that are available? Personally, I think one can do a quite nice job with some of the off-the-shelf lights that are out there in the yards. After all this is "Hybrid"Z not "Made From Scratch"Z. Our cars are full parts from other cars. That's the spirit here, "Will it fit, is it better, is it cool?" There are very few here like Terry O that can design and build a beautiful fender from nothing but glass and resin. The rest of us are hackers trying our best to make good choices and hoping to get lucky. Well, my "items" arrived today. If I think I got lucky I'll post some pics in the near future. Dan
  11. You did get lucky. I just got an e-mail yesterday from a guy that wanted them too. I had to give him the bad news. Silver is going to look great. I love silver cars. I've had gold. Both colors have limited life spans though. I too wanted to use the YZ fronts and adapt the stock headlight buckets into them. No chance. The shape is very different. Keep us updated with pics.
  12. Credit where credit is due. Ernie, a.k.a. RacerX, first proffered the idea of the Rav4 taillights to me.
  13. Sorry, you're 4 days too late. I got them here: kitcarz.com But they have suspended operations. (Read, out of business) But if you really want them and have enough money you can buy the company.
  14. Sorry guys, can't pull the pic off of ebay. Auxilary? help?
  15. My money says it's a Camaro. An $83k Camaro. Check it out on ebay. 2002 Avanti Not your fathers Studebaker!
  16. Wow, that is sad. Anybody try that on this site and the cops will be the least of your worries. Lone & I gonna mess you up.
  17. Gee Justin, what's your hurry? You could have waited untill midnight to place your order. I know, you wanted to get the very last set, didn't you? Just pullin your chain. Actually I'm flattered. They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Just don't tell me you're painting it Viper blue.
  18. Seams to make sense that it would help. Seams like a lot of work, though. Seams that I recall a neighbor of mine who raced Camaros in SCCA did the same thing.
  19. 980mak, have you actually purchased a MOMO hub from ltbmotorsport.com? I emailed them and they said they could not help me. I got mine from a place in Oakland CA. If anyone is interested I'll dig up the name of the place. It was about $60 w/o horn button. It sounds like it is getting tougher to get the MOMO hub for the Z. Zparts has a used one for sale with the button for $75. Sounds a little steep for used but if you can't find it new ... BTW all '70-'78 Z's use the same hub. If I didn't already own a MOMO wheel I would have bought a Grant. Quality is close and the prices are much better. You pay for the name with MOMO.
  20. One question: What do you call old?
  21. Evaprative cooling. Works great. Won't do you any good in SF though. Humidity is too high there. Only really works well when the air is dry. Head for the desert Len!
  22. Who's cranky? Seriously, you guys make some very good points. Like the 3/4 view. Oddly enough I've been thinking about that today. The dead-on rear view only considers the outline of any custom or borrowed (from another car) taillight. When using a light from another car the contour of that car will, no doubt, not match the Z's. Thus, It will have to be dealt with in some creative way. Pete, I am again flattered by your comments. I appreciate your warning to go into this with caution. Once you start hacking away sheet metal it’s hard (and expensive) to go back. I should have some "things" to play with in about a week. I'm going to start by sticking them in different places with duct tape or other temporary methods and take several pics at various angles. I’ll try to barrow a digital camera and send the pics to Eric to host. Then all can see. Wish me luck.
  23. That other company that will make wider than 8" on four bolts is Billet Specialties . Got mine there, very happy.
  24. Yup, that's a good deal. You should buy it. I paid $2000 for my tpi and T5.
  25. Note: VR is not completely closed yet. You have 3 days left to place orders. kitcarz
