  1. Modern Motorsports (and plenty of other places as well), can make wheel adaptors to suit almost any application. If these are the wheels you want you can mock something up to determine what width adapter you would need. There are also devices that tire shops carry that can determine how a specific wheel and tire would fit on your car. Maybe no one else has done it, but it doesn't mean you can't make it work.
  2. I'm within around 30 miles of Ontario. Maybe we can all get together somewhere while you're here. Dave & Busters at Ontario Mills (really big mall in town) has some good food, brew and video race games. I could even drive my Z there.
  3. Nice looking setup Mike kZ. I talked with my local Hot Rod Shop (a VA dealer), and I'm going to meet with him next Saturday. Hopefully I will be ready to place an order with him then. fastzcars, Thanks for the info on the proline bulkhead plates, that sounds like a good addition. My local dealer is recommending upgraded hoses as well, so I'll find out more about that when I see him.
  4. I would figure 10 grand is going to cover it. It could be more and it could be less depending on what deals you can find. Check around for a wrecked Z28 or Trans Am, or a complete assembly including wiring, PCM, etc. Start looking for a good straight Z in your area. what about upgraded brakes, wheels, other modifications, etc? If you're really serious you need to start by getting the JTR book to know what's going to be involved with the swap. http://www.jagsthatrun.com/Pages/Datsun_Z_V-8.html Good luck.
  5. Well, I guess you guys aren't too fond of my wheels either. To each his own, I'm very happy with the way my wheels look on my car. I don't know if the wheels fastzcars posted are chrome or not, but mine aren't. I still think that the polished finish looks good (at least when you have large openings and nice brakes).
  6. I like it. Do you have disks all the way around? I like wheels with plenty of open space to show off nice brake setups. What size are you looking at?
  7. So you purchased directly from VA? This is great information, it looks like you're a perfect resource to help me determine what parts I need:D. I talked with VA today and ordered their catalog and talked with them in general about my install. They thought that my best bet for the compressor bracket was to start with their universal bracket (I will use that as a starting point to fabricate something like the Bower's Low Hood Style LT1 A/C Compressor Relocation bracket or the bracket that love-my-V8-280Z made). I'm not in a big rush, but as soon as I determine everything I need I'll place my order.
  8. Mike, do you have a pic of your custom made center panel?
  9. It looks like we have the same goals for our installs. Thanks! the pictures are a big help. I like the control panel that you used and it looks like your using the stock vents.http://us.a1.yahoofs.com/users/41bb0a64z9406f34b/e8e5/__sr_/bbd1.jpg?pho7QdDBJEmFFME1 The condensor looks like a perfect fit, what size is that? http://us.a1.yahoofs.com/users/41bb0a64z9406f34b/e8e5/__sr_/f221.jpg?pho7QdDB4KdT.zI9
  10. Your's is one of the installs I'm interested in seeing. How can I view your yahoo page (your home page link in your signature doesn't work for me)? Did you use your existing vents? P.S. - How's your car coming along?
  11. I’ve decide to install a complete Vintage Air unit on my 73 240Z with a LT1 V8 engine. I’ve been searching and I have some information, but I could still use some more advice. I will take plenty of pictures and post progress as the project progresses. I am planning on going with a complete Gen II unit with heat, cool, and defrost (including compressor, compressor bracket (universal which I will have to adapt for my install), condenser, and hose kit-dryer). One of the first things I need to decide is whether to get the Gen II mini or the Gen II compac. The compact is slightly larger but according to Vintage Air it can handle a lot more volume. Anyone that’s done the installation with either unit let me know which you think would be better (i.e. – I bought the mini, but I wish I had gotten the compac:twisted: ). I found a seller online that sells complete mini or compact Gen II units for $895.with a three year warranty (http://www.autoairandaudio.com/autoair/compac.html). Would I be better off to just purchase from a local dealer? I also need to determine what specific panel, vents, and condensor to get. I was thinking of replacing the stock control panel with the Vintage Air unit and trying to use the stock vents (or at least the stock locations). I would like to keep a more integrated look and not have anything hanging below the dash. Any advice, experiences and/or pictures of installs is definitely appreciated.
  12. Hanns and I went back to Ecology Saturday morning to get another fan. The warranty worked out great, and I had another fan picked out in no time. It tested out fine when I got it home, and within an hour or two I had it cleaned up and installed.
  13. I'll be going pretty early Saturday morning, I'll send you a PM with my number so you can call me if you want to come along.
  14. Tim, I think you are making the right decision, it's just too nice to cut up. My offer still stands for you to have my old stock rearend and suspension so that it would at least be a roller (free).
  15. By removing the factory connector the fan I got last weekend works, but I still need to go back and trade it in on another one. There are slight differences (diameter of the shaft for one) that prevent me from swapping the motor and putting on my existing shroud and fan blade. This time I'm going to find a complete unit with a good shroud, fan blade and motor. For this adventure I went to Ecology in Fontana. I've gone to the one in Santa Fe Springs before, but I like the one in Fontana much better. I saw a lot of good cars to get parts from including a ZX. One of the Taurii was a SHO and it looked like the V8 engine was still intact.
  16. The factory connector is still on the fan, so I will try to remove it and then test it again. If it still doesn't want to spin, I plan on going back to Ecology Saturday morning (and I'd welcome the "Taurus Fan Meister"). I'll test it out again tonight and let you know the results.
  17. I picked up a fan yesterday at Ecology in Fontana. Luckily I paid 5 bucks extra for the warranty, because it doesn't work either. I'm grounding the ground wire and just applying normal battery current to the other lines (one at a time) and getting nothing. When I put a test light in the circuit it lights up, so I think I'm testing the motor corectly. I'll go back next weekend and find another one. The one I found was already removed, so maybe that wasn't a good sign. It also had a damaged shroud, so I thought I would get a better price but it didn't seem to make any difference (it looks like any fan and shroud assembly is a flat $19.95). This time I'm going to pull one in better condition.
  18. Tim, if we could install some subframe connectors while I'm there, that would definitely make the trip worthwhile.
  19. So the going price at Ecology is around $40 then? That makes the eBay one sound like a pretty good deal. I appreciate the offer Tim, but it's probably easier for me to get the unit from eBay than to swing by your place (around 70 miles each way).
  20. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ford-Cooling-Fan-Taurus-Sable-TBird-Lincoln_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33600QQitemZ8008979238QQrdZ1
  21. I've got everything wired up correctly on my Taurus fan, and it was working most of the time. It stopped working the other day, and after checking everything out it appears the motor is bad. My question is where can I get a good deal on just a fan motor (or maybe I'm better off getting a complete unit with shroud). On eBay there are several complete fans with shroud going for $49.95 plus $14.00 shipping. I've found a few parts stores with just fan motors for around $100 (but, then you're getting a brand new motor). I could also go by Ecology and see if I can find one myself, but if I do I don't know how much they will charge me. Should I just get one of the fans off eBay?
  22. So if what phantom states is true, then the 1G of lateral acceleration is cancelling out the force of gravity on the inside of the car? Or maybe more accurately the weight of the car (is transferred) plus the force from 1G of lateral acceleration is placed on the outside suspension. If the above is accurate, then the outside wheels are each carrying 2,000 lbs of force?
  23. Unless I'm mistaken, it looks like there are camber plates in this picture from the pdk web site. I would call them and ask them about it. I called PDK yesterday, and based on the information they gave me the firewall bars will interfere with my alternator.
