  1. I'm pretty happy with this fan as well. It seems to suck really good! ( oxymoron?) Mine seems to have trouble getting started sometimes. It has juice, but sometimes it just doesn't want to start spinning without a little help. I wonder if I need to replace the motor?
  2. I have no doubt John's hoods are great, as John pointed out I was drooling over his hoods when I was at his shop. I just like to post up when I find something for Z's so that we can all be informed consumers. BTW - John, make it an X-Large
  3. I called them, and yes it is essentially a fiberglass hood with a layer of carbon fiber on the top. I think if people are selling a fiberglass hood with a layer of carbon fiber on top they shouldn't be able to call it a 'carbon fiber' hood. That's like putting aluminum foil over a car and saying it's an aluminum car. It's a fiberglass hood with a carbon fiber look.
  4. I saw a carbon fiber hood from Raconusa on eBay today: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/240Z-260Z-280Z-DATSUN-CARBON-FIBER-OEM-GRADE-HOOD-JDM_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33646QQitemZ7990010349QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW for $499.99. I then found their web site and the price is listed as $474.05. Is anyone familiar with this company and/or these hoods. Sounds like a good deal, but I don't know anything about the quality of their products. The information at the web site states that it has a "FRP plastic finish underside". Does this mean that it's really a fiberglass hood with a layer of carbon fiber on the top?
  5. I searched around and found some other forum sites that talking about this video http://forum.ebaumsworld.com/showthread.php?t=52075. This link is blocked for me (at work), but I guess they say the guy died. http://www.ogrish.com/archives/face...an_28_2005.html From what I read and viewed it appears the guy was trying to mess with the kids on the bicycles (hit one of them with his arm or car door), but fell out enough to hit the front end of a parked car.
  6. John, It would be nice if you could post up additional information about these video clips your posting. What happened to this guy, and what happened to the recoil guy. It be funnier if you knew that they guy was alright, otherwise it's kinda sad:emo:
  7. Hybrid-Zee, and my car is a hybrid...it run's on gas and oil (hopefully not too much oil:))
  8. There's 50 square foot rolls of Black Mat Premium sound deadener on eBay right now for $79.99 'buy it now' price. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5792589397&category=67760&ssPageName=WDVW&rd=1. Has anyone used this or heard anything about it? I found they're web site, but it doesn't have much more information than the auction. http://www.perfectionsound.com/index.html. Of course they claim it's the best, and it's 70 mils thick...but I haven't heard of it before. BTW - I've been looking and reading about roofing membranes (Peel-n-seal, stuff from Home Depot, etc.) and they definitely seem cost effective, but I would imagine these are all asphalt based instead of butyl based. Wouldn't it be better to use butyl based products for this application?
  9. My numbers are just an approximation and I do need to recalibrate my speedometer. The speedo was calibrated on Tim's car with 245/45-16s and I have 225/45-17s. I did enter the tire sizes into an auto tire diameter calculator and surprisingly the diameter is pretty close. 245/45-16 = 24.68" diameter 225/45-17 = 24.97" diameter
  10. I've been trying to find the redline of my 94 LT1 and I'm not sure if I have the correct information. It appears that the LT1 has a 5,800 rpm redline and the LT4 has a 6,300 rpm redline. Can anyone confirm this? I've also found that you may get better performance if you stay below 5,000 rpm max from the LT1 engine. Can anyone confirm this information? What I'm really after is what rpm should I shift when I want to achieve the best acceleration. Once I confirm this information I want to somehow mark my autometer tach so that I can easily see when I'm at my peak rpm. I don't want to get one with a shift light, I would just like to somehow mark an area of the tach maybe with orange and red background (like factory gauges do). Maybe I could put some sort of sticker or mark on the face of the tach (but something that looks half way decent)?
  11. I have a similar setup and I like having the sixth gear. If you like cruising at high speed it really comes in handy. I was driving around on the freeway yesterday and I was tuning around 1800 rpm at 70 mph. If you're more into racing than cruising then I would save the weight and get a 5-speed.
  12. Personally, it really doesn't bother me either way. I welcomed the change that prevented non-technical issues from counting against users post count, but it doesn't bother me to have just about anything posted here. If I'm not interested, I won't read it. Actually I like reading the posts where people get upset and start name calling. I find it entertaining in a sick sorta way:twisted:. I think it really boils down to maintaining all the data and moderating the posts. If you have the storage space and enough people willing to moderate, then why not allow it.
  13. You can put a chrome finish on just about anything. The Summit catalog had a car on the cover (Impala I believe) with chromed fiberglass bumpers. Here's a site that does it: http://www.xxxplating.com/ At the LA Auto Show last year they had a car that was completely painted in chrome. Here's a link to a company that produces chrome paint: http://www.alsacorp.com/ I was thinking about it, but it's pretty expensive. I decided to just go with the chrome European bumpers on my Z.
  14. I think that MSA sells the Jim Cook parts. If you look at the Jim Cook web site they don't mention anything about ordering parts from them. I even sent them an email once asking about purchasing from them, and I got no response.
  15. I'm using the stock fuel lines on my 73 240Z with my fuel infected LT1 V8 with no problems (approx. 300hp). I'm using the existing supply line for supply and the stock vent as the return, and even used the stock tank for a while. I eventually upgraded the fuel tank, but that was just to be able to install dual exhaust.
  16. I think in general that you go with JTR if you're not planning on installing an LS1 engine, and use John's if you are. I'm sure others will post their preferences, but for non-LS1 small block Chevy's you can't beat JTR! They've been around a long time, they have great prices, and from what I've heard great support as well. Get JTR's book to start (if you haven't done so already), it has great information about swapping even if you don't use their kit. They even tell you how to make your own parts so you don't have to buy the kit.
  17. What a major bummer you had a really nice ride. Too bad about your car, but I'm glad that your alright. Maybe you'll be able to salvage most of your work and transplant it into another Z?
  18. I installed the 260Z shoulder belts this morning and they work great! Here's a couple of pic's: It bolted right up to the same location as my old non-retractable belts.
  19. Why did you risk posting this? You should just use the buy it now before it's gone.
