  1. If you use the items that JTR recommends, you should be able to handle performing a V8 swap for your Z. If you decide to do things differently you may need experience fabricating to complete your project. With the JTR book and this forum you should have access to all the information you need. If you get in a bind, someone here will probably be able to provide an answer to help you out. If you have the drive and ambition, go for it:) .
  2. In general this type of information is more likely to be found at the Classic Zcar Club site (the location of the link that Larry posted). This site is geared more towards modifying Z cars as opposed to matching original specifications. Now if you want to figure out the biggest meats you can fit on the back of your Z, you'll be able to find that information here:eek: .
  3. I think this is another "Owen Special", that he designed and built himself (the same with the hood).
  4. You know that you don't have to weld the bottom collar's to run coilovers. Mine just sit on whats left of the lower perch that I cut off. Maybe you can see what I'm talking about in this picture. http://home.earthlink.net/~570z/images/finished_brakes.JPG
  5. From what I've seen and heard, it's starting to make sense why Clifton won at the MSA show. He's very enthusiastic about his car and willing to help others understand what he's done and even willing to help them do it. When I saw his car at the show he was explaining all his modifications to everyone that was interested. The show wasn't fixed; I think the right car (and owner) got what they deserved.
  6. I assume you must be joking...:toetap05:right??? Everyone (I think) is able to see who added to their reputation by looking at their 'UserCP'. The higher your reputation the more green dots you have. A grey dot means no one has added to your repution yet:emo: . You add to someones reputation by clicking the little silver scale icon located in their user information block by each post.
  7. I've done a lot of searching and I know there are quite a few people that are running the plastic LS1 F-body fuel tanks (jeromio, mas280, SSflyer, maichor, Briguy280Z, MAT73GNZ, ...). I bought a complete 2001 LS1 Trans Am fuel tank with straps, pump, wiring, and hoses; and I want to install it in my 73 240Z to feed fuel to my LT1 engine. I'm looking for any information you guys have learned that can help me out with this install. A couple of my specific questions: First, would anyone be interested in fabricating the mounting brackets (it looks like most of you are using the same or very similar ones)? Will I need to remove my spare tire well? Briguy280Z mounted his tank without removing it, but maybe that only works on 280Z's. mas280's pic's looks like it wouldn't fit without removing the spare tire well. Any modifications needed to the fuel pump/sensor unit (from what I've read, I will need to rotate it approximately 180 degrees). I can't find the post, but I seem to recall someone posted making modifications a while back. Wiring information/diagram. I don't want to buy another FSM just to figure out the wiring for this tank. Fuel Gauge - I already have an Autometer Speedo, so I take it there is an Autometer fuel gauge that would be compatible with the built in GM sender? What's the best way to connect to my existing lines. I would like to use my existing supply line (appox. 3/8") and the existing vent line (approx. 5/16") as a return line. I'm using these now with my stock tank and ZX fuel pump. Maybe I shouldn't use my existing lines and just replace them with new lines? Anything else I haven't thought of. As always, any information is appreciated.
  8. Here's an interesting article on the price of gas in Iraq http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/nationworld/2001949017_cheapgas06.html Not only are they paying only $.05 a gallon, The U.S. pay's about $1.50 a gallon to buy the fuel and deliver it to Iraqi gas stations!
  9. I have 16 x 7 Konig wheels (Honda offset and Modern Motorsports adapters) with 225/45-17's that fit fine without coilovers. I've heard that some people have issues with going with 225 tires, but 215's will always fit (with the correct combination of offset and adapters).
  10. You must have fixed it, because it starting working again.
  11. My preferences are setup for me to get email notification when anyone replies to a thread I have subscribed to. It has been working fine up until yesterday, but now I'm not getting these emails anymore. My preferences haven't changed, and threads I'm subscribed to have been getting replies; but I'm not getting any emails. Any idea why this could be happening?
  12. The Odyssey 680MJT will fit under the passenger seat, behind the passenger seat, or in the bin that held the jack. It's only 7-1/16" x 2- 15/16" x 7-3/16":D !
  13. I only saw one as well, It was on orange color with black accent stripes. I talked a little bit with the owner and his wife, I think his names is Brian.
  14. Good web page, keep it up. I went with the Miata seats and I think they're a good idea. I only have the drivers seat mounted so far, and I don't have any speakers installed yet so I can't tell you how well they sound; but they are a good fit and look like they belong there. With those engine mod's you're talking about, you'll probably want to go with a LSD when you change your rear end.
  15. Anyone going to the Kick Off Party tonight at Dromo One? I haven't been able to find out how much the event is, but I've raced there before on several occassions and it's a blast. I just called Motorsport Auto and it's $24.95 for dinner and a race! The event starts at 6:30.
  16. Just wanted to let everyone know that my LT1 powered 570z hit the streets of my neighborhood for the first time on Sunday. I still have a couple of little things I need to complete before I venture out on a road trip, but I'm very happy with the car. The only big problem I have is that when I accelerate, large quantities of smoke start rolling off the rear tires! Does anyone have any idea why this is happening:shock: . So far I think the car is everything I hoped it would be, and then some. I'm not ready to bring it to the MSA show, but just wait until next year. Although I won't be driving the Z I will be showing up at the show, and I hope to see some of you HybridZer's there.
  17. Not sure if they're the same, but Airizona Z sold their fiberglass business to another company. I think somone in Ohio???
  18. The current issue of Hot Rod magazine has a really nice article on the specifics of the LS1 engine, and specifically the block itself. There are lots of pictures, and it talks about the differences between the early and later blocks as well. The article is called: Gen III Block Secrets Everything you ever wanted to know (and a lot you never knew you wanted to know) about GM’s LS1-based engine blocks. Hope this helps
  19. So the show will be here in just a few short days. Are we going to get together on Friday or Saturday?
  20. Is it difficult to find stock Datsun sending units? I guess I was lucky enough to just be able to remove them from my old engine and put them in my LT1. The sending units have the same thread as the Chevy units, so it installed in the existing mounting locations and they work great .
  21. Good work! Very ambitious project, here in California we are fortunate enough to be able to find Z's that don't need so much work (at least most of us;)) .
  22. Alright, I'm interested in exactly what you have on eBay with the inner piece for using stock hinges, and I'm interested in picking it up at the Motorsports show. You can PM me or send me an email with the details. P.S. - Stronger is better, weight isn't a problem
