Feeding My Addiction (turbo build)
Slow78z replied to Slow78z's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
It's running 15 psi right now. I've thought about a 400. It would probably be cheaper but I like having overdrive and being able to tune the tranny. I've never ran a glide but I hear they are magical for the quarter mile. Decisions decisions. -

Wow, what a week. I've been working like crazy to get the car going and finally started it last night. Today I worked on installing the boost-a-pump and water meth kit. After that it was loaded on the trailer and we headed for Lawrence to have Ryan Mitchell tune it. We made about 7 pulls altogether. We had trouble with it spinning the tires on the dyno after 500 hp. The first time it blew the tires off I thought something broke because of the smoke. After the all familiar scent of burnt rubber passed my nostrils I had a smile on my face once again. We put the slicks on to help with the spinning problem and that moved the power up to 544 hp 497 ft.lbs. He said it was still spinning on the dyno so we un strapped it and headed out for some final street tuning. The poor ole 4L60e couldn't handle the street and bounced off the rev limiter in 3rd. ;( Bye bye 3/4 clutch pack. That ended our tuning session. All in all I'm relieved that the install is done. I guess now I'm going to learn how to rebuild a 4L60e. I'll post up pics and a video later. I'm beat so good night Hybridz. -

I wish I could sneak my whole car into work. Lol. I borrowed a miller econotig from a friend. It's a great machine but a TIG with a pulsing option would work better for the thin stainless tubing. -

Thanks for the kind words. I'm a novice welder at best. Hopefully they will hold. -
Wow that is some clean work. All the mechanicals realy stand out in that white engine bay. Love the strut tower bracing.

Made an oil catch can and two piece mount. It kinda looks like a minion, lol. Maybe I'll paint it yellow with jean overalls. Parts and assembly Finished product before powder coating. I think I'll put here. Even though the downpipe will be wrapped, I thinks I'll go ahead and make a little heat shield for extra insurance. -

Ha ha, it didn't take quite that long but my hand got a good workout. -
That's a cool spot for a hobbs switch. Is your ride going to be finished for KC2K14?

We have been having some nice days here all in a row lately so I've been able to get more done. It's acctually starting to come together and look like a turbo car now. It's so exciting! I've also decided to change my fuel. I was going to go with E85 but with limited availability in my area and the difference in consumption, I have decided to go with good old 91 octane with water/meth injection. I have an aluminum fuel line also and E85 likes to eat aluminum. More progress pics. Mostly finished down pipe. I made a flange to help support the metal where I cut out a 4 inch hole. Passenger side fender exit exhaust. I'll be purchasing or making a flange for this opening also Mounted the intercooler with just enough room for the fan. Also cut off straight tubes from intercooler and welded on elbows. Most of the charge side is done. I just need to figure out a air intake setup. Custom bead roller. That's a good idea to put a gusset on the modified mani. Tig welds look great! -

Thanks Sunny Z. The O2 bung that is pictured is just bank 1 for the ECM. Bank 2 is bung is on the other end of the crossover just after the 90. The wideband is going in the downpipe. I remember your post on your build about the fitting coming off during a pull. Man that would have been terrible to catch on fire. I'm glad it didn't. I was also sceptical about the fitting holding so I had already decided to use safety wire to hold it from popping off. I've also got safety wire holding the fittings on the corvette filter/regulator. In this pic I had just cut it off to remove the fitting and intake. I will check out the fitting your talking about. I didn't even know it was an option. By the way, the fire extinguisher has a nice cozy home behind the passengers seat. -

More pictures! Cut some holes with a plasma cutter in this pic. A fellow gear head sliced them out in no time for me. I realy need to get a plasma cutter. Burned in wastegate merge. Installed crossover with wastegate. Got started on the down, up, and over pipe. That exhaust is going to be so dizzy it's going to puke when it finaly gets out. -
Thank you kind sir. If I only had the power of the Swartz. Lol

I sold an exhaust system recently and hid the add per parts for sale rules. I would like to give feedback for the buyer but the add link is required to complete the feedback. Is there still a way to get the link or is it gone? Thanks for your response.

JTR shorties, 2.5" off the headers into a single 3" after tranny and then into a Magnaflow muffler. Naturally aspirated.

It should indeed. From what I've been researching, 2.25 will support well over 1000hp and even 2 1/8 could have been used but I just couldn't go that small. Lol -

I've been working here and there on the car the last couple of weeks. Kansas weather bites! One day it will be sunny and 70* outside and the next its 30* and snowing. Anyways, enough whinning and on to the good stuff. I needed the turbo to set a little closer to the engine so I made a different turbo mount that is probably 5 time more solid. I'm almost done with the crossover as well. Just need to finish up the wastgate merge and tig it onto the crossover. The welds don't look the best but in my defense it's my first time welding stainless tubing. lol. The welds look nicer on the inside then they do on the outside because of the purge welding. New turbo mount Purge tig welded crossover. Wastegate merge -

I was going to go that route but it was going to require changing the coil-pack location. I'm trying to get this done with the least amount of modifications to what I already have. So far it's going as planned. Until I get to the down pipe that is. -

Thanks for the compliment. I hope to get a set of 15" wheels and drag radials for the rear. Driving around on 14" slicks is a little unerving. They like to follow the cracks in the road. lol -

I didn't get a bunch done today. Welded together a bracket to hold the turbo. It's mounted to the front of the drivers side head and gusseted a little. I'm liking this tig welder. -

That's a sweet setup. That down pipe is huge. I think I could reach up inside and spin your turbin wheel with my fingers. lol. I originally wanted to do an exhaust setup like yours and use an electric cutout but more modifications to engine mounts would be needed. Maybe in the future. I also like how you took pictures of the engine out of the car with the turbo kit insalled. If I get more ambitious I might try that.
