Yeah I know what you mean. I have a friend that's into honda and stuff, them Honda crowd look for different things in the engine. Last time he was telling me about how his friend has a totally balanced rotating assembly that revs to 10000rpm and how it felt like a totally different car and was saying how that engine made 220hp, and the car was so light etc etc. I suppose they are impressed by 200hp because their frame of reference : small displacement engines. That friend of mine knows more about cars than I do so he's cool. He goes from Vancouver to Seattle to circuit race all the time, but he doesn't even know how much a cubic inch is(61ci = 1000cc), he knows very little about small block chevy neither. Hi-tech import and big-inch domestic seem to be preferred by two exclusive worlds. Personally I am interested in their DOHC, VVTL and stuff, but "6.2 liter Chevy V8" feels fast just from saying it.

Went to your website, looks like you got a very nice and clean build.(just repaint? no rusties to fix?) That sticker should give you plenty of street race opportunities when the ricers pull up from behind. As to how much horsepower a sticker can give you...this question has been asked before

WHAT ARE THE CHANCES?! Man you're real lucky.

I was looking for fart-pipe exhaust note amplifier....they didn't have it.

"so what is the advantage of ITB's..." Denser and cleaner cylinder fillings, no fuel distribution problems, can tune for a powerband by changing the ram pipe length.

solonoid actuated valves? Sounds interesting, is there a website or something that shows the setup?

Since this is a non-Z question...I put it here. I've always thought SOHC are capable of controlling 2 or 3 valves per cylinder engines(like Mercedes, Ford, etc) and it is necessary to use DOHC to control 4 valves per cyl engines. But recently I read about Honda Ridgeline(their new truck) and it uses SOHC system to control 4 valves on every cylinder. The engine seems to do ok, a 3.5 liter V6(IIRC?) to produce 255bhp with same number of peak torque. That translates into 72.8 bhp per liter. So here comes the question, how does a SOHC system controls 4 valves on every cylinder? And how is conventional DOHC/4valve system better than this SOHC/4valve system? Thanks in advance.

Hi, I am looking for education on suspension/handling, also weber carburetors(or other independent runner intake setups) Any book recommendations? Thnx

but I got you on the loser flyby.....ROFL "loser flyby"...that's the thing people do when they lose a street race, then fly past the winner after he's back to relax mode right?

Hi, all I have been planning/saving for about a year to prep a 260Z body shell this summer. This summer's plan includes media blasting plus 2 coats of...some kind of super tough primer like POR-15. Although I am not doing these work myself but I intend to coat every inch of space that I can reach when I touch up with the same tough primer. I will be painting suspension parts myself also. Because I always wanted total protection, my plan has always involved shooting the whole car with POR-15, but when I did a search on this forum, I found a few users having trouble with POR-15 : Issues with UV plus other paints(including Ti-coat) having trouble sticking to POR-15. At the same time, I saw someone provided a link to RustBullet.com Which is a competitor of POR-15(but they both are moisture-cured polyurethane coatings). According to RustBullet website and test results provided, rustbullet is just as good as POR-15 except rustbullet is not UV sensitive, does not "require" a top coat and does not require a special top coat(like ti-coat for POR-15) before taking conventional paint. That really got my attention. As a result I want to switch to RustBullet instead of POR-15. Here are my questions : 1. Has anyone in this forum used RustBullet? What's the impression? Does regular paint stick to it well? 2. According to their instructions, RustBullet should not be thinned for spraying. How much do I need for 2 coats on the whole car(shell, underside, doors, hood, hatch, suspension parts, every nook and cranny I can find)? 3. Since I want to order in small containers, I have to know how pint/quart/gallon convert between each other. RustBullet is claimed to have received 2 patents, but they never provided the patent number. I snooped around the USPTO website and found them anyway. Here are their patent numbers : 6,872,767 6,809,150 If you are interested to know what their patents are about, you can go to http://www.uspto.gov/ use the patent number to search. (If you can understand what the patent is saying, remember to share with us in plain English) THANKS!

IIRC the new Ferrari F430(one that replaced 360 modena) uses a flat plane crankshaft. The flat plane cranks are generally said to give more power but more engine vibration.

Custom adjustable t/c rods please critique
TheNeedForZ replied to 240hoke's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Pardon my noob question, but what do "T/C rod" and "LCA" stand for? LCA sure is not lobe centerline angle when you are talking about suspension... -
IIRC the new Corvette uses a returnless system, but some users modify it to have a return line. It is said to perform better with a return line than with returnless.

I've heard from somewhere that there are "good" SU carbs and "bad" SU carbs(well they are both Hitachi) on S30Z. Did a search, nothing that says which kind of SU is on which model. I am thinking of getting a set of SU from a 260Z just for study purpose. Would an SU from the 260Z be the "bad" carb? What exactly? is wrong with these "bad" carbs? And where can I find the "good" SU? Thanks

Good shops are hard to find, I got screwed last time I went to a shop that I found from the phone book. I say we pile up our resources, make a list of recommended shops. I'll start : -----AirStrip : A sandblasting place that'll do an entire Z(inside out, every inch) for around 1200$CDN. Talked to the owner, they do nothing but media blasting. They only do sand and walnut. Their work looks clean. 2771 Simpson Road Richmond, BC V6X 3H6 Phone : +1 604 273-5511 Fax : +1 604 273-0356 -----Abington Motors/Lancaster Restoration : This is a shop I found in our search function. I have no experience with them but letting customers work on their own cars is an attractive idea. http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=84784&highlight=BC It will let customers work on their premise. Someone provide address & phone? -----The Z Shop(Dan Giroux) A small shop that carries Z car parts. unit#207 13395 76th Ave (Near 76 Ave and 134st. intersection) Surrey, BC, V3W 6K2 604-507-2409 The 75th street on 2001 map is now 76th street Anything else that you want to add?

The link leads to another forum which leads to some amazing videos. I watched for like an hour and my afternoon nap was ruined with pleasure.

Not an expert by any means but from my recollection, people that use bigger SU carbs get a bigger SU from another vehicle, then re-shape intake orfices on the Z car so air will flow better. Do a search on SU...

I am already running some acetone-gas in my VW Jetta It normally uses 87octane but now I am using 3 ounce acetone per/10 gallon gas ratio. I just added half a tank yesterday. I THINK it has better idle quality and better power since it kinda pulls better when I am cruising at 70kph~80kph. However I won't do the mileage test because the wheel alignment is a bit off right now.
