  1. I have no gas, no tach, no water temp... rather unnerving. also, my blinkers are out... the hazaards work, so they're not the bulbs. Looking for a troubleshooting tip or two on my lil problem.
  2. Stock cam in a stock l28et. Measured using a boot gauge which reads inches of mercury on the - side and psi on the + side.
  3. My vaccuum reads 9 inches of mercury at idle, is this a tuning problem?
  4. My neighbor restors jenson interceptors, has a whole machine shop in his garage, I'll see if he'll help me out with it.
  5. a broken... stud. a broken head stud? I suppose that's better than needing a new head or a rebuild or something of the sorts, I still haven't done the screwdriver test though, So I'll get back on that once I get it finished
  6. mrushume the valve? it's an l28et from an 81 280zx turbo. not sure if they're hydraulic lifters.
  7. My vaccuum is about 9 inches hg at idle, it uh, doesn't seem normal... So I'm wondering if some people can post their pressures at idle? l28et 286,000 miles
  8. Also, my turbo is lagging a bit more than usual, it's quite possible that it's an exhaust leak.

  10. K, so I made a nono on my 280, and just poked a hole in my upper rad hose, siliconed it and called it good. It worked for about 2 months, then I was toying with an old neon with all the extras (body kits, etc) and I suddenly realized I was going to get my ass stomped by the mondo turbo in this guy's car. I heard the loudest blowoff valve that has possibly ever been put into something which runs on gas. Well, no, it turns out it was my cooling system rejecting my clt mounting idea, and antifreeze flew all over my nicely powdercoated intake parts, which are now not so nicely powdercoated. At any rate, My stock clt i can't seem to get to work with msnse, and I don't know how to mount a GM clt other than putting a hole in my rad. What do others do?
  11. I'm getting a very robust ticking at startup, that seems to come and go, and speeds up with engine speed. Anyone have an idea as to what this is?
  12. The secondary piston spoken of above was frozen. I broke a 6" C Clamp getting it to close... lol but, it finally closed, and now my brakes are back in order, if a little squishy. I think I need to bleed the front as well as the back?
  13. I did, the piston is now inside the housing, but there is another piston of sorts on the other side of the housing, which I'm having trouble compressing.
  14. K, the problem is that the inner piston is not compressing enough to allow the outer pad in. Is there a problem with just using a C clamp to do this?
  15. I'm outside right now trying to put new pads on the rear brakes of my 81 turbo, and i swear they're too damn thick to fit in... the outer pad seems like it's about 5 mm too thick... am i missing something crucial here, or did shucks gimme the wrong pads?

  17. I'm going to replace my gauges, and I'm wondering what gauges to get/what I need to know about the fuel gauge and Oil pressure gauges My fuel gauge does not work, my oil pressure doesn't work. I would like to go with aftermarket, but I know they are both electronic, so I was wondering if anyone knew the signals sent by the sensors?
  18. Unrelated, but the title made me think of a joke. This pirate walks into a bar, with a steering wheel attached to his crotch. the bartender says hey, you know you gotta steering wheel hanging outta yer pants? and the pirate says, "yeah i know, and it's..." can anyone guess what the pirate says?
  19. tie rod boots and control arm bushings happen to be the only two things left in my bin-o-energy suspension-bushings. I think i'll do that next weekend some time.
  20. Fried HEI it seems, though it is strange that i'm running without a pullup and with inverted spark. origionally it didn't run with a pullup and the spark uninverted... I'm going to put up with simply replacing the hei as needed for the next 6 months or so, i got about 2 months out of the last one, and 20-40 every couple months isn't too bad as it's a project car and in sept i'll be doing some work which will take it off the road until spring. problem solved, thanks guys
  21. It's a blaster 2. I tried with a neihoff turbo coil ($15) and i tried a new hei module. neither helped. I tried just a normal 12gauge wire coming from the coil, just to eliminate whatever chance there is of the wire going bad, nothing. my led tester going between fidle and ground turns on with megasquirt and stays on until it starts sending spark events. does this mean spark is inverted? my laptop was far away from my car (about a 2 hour drive) at the time of testing, so i couldn't check. Also, my hei module doesn't have a pullup resistor to it. For some reason, no matter what i did with that resistor, it never worked. after eliminating it, it worked fine. now, however, no spark. my buddy thinks the problem is being caused by the inverted spark and lack of a pullup. anyone's input on this?

Today My car just pattoohie, stopped firing the spark plugs. tried a new hei module, nothing. there is no pullup resistor going to the 4 pin hei, because for some reason it wouldn't run at all with one going to it in the initial setup. i removed it, it ran fine for 2 months or so. now, i just popped a new one in to see if it changed, nothing. tomorrow i will try with a pullup inline and a new hei module. After pulling over and popping the hood i noticed that my hei module was not hot at all, but my coil was extremely hot. could be a bad coil rather than a bad module, which i will test tomorrow as well. megatune shows megasquirt flicking the fidle on and off, indicating to me that it at least thinks it's sending a message to the hei module to fire. tomorrow i will run an led to it to test. anyone have any more suggestions on what this problem could be? or a better way to go about troubleshooting?
