  1. I hear that......I bet it would never happen again. BTW, love the Z!
  2. Just finished college two weeks ago.....need to find a job for one. Can't keep putting money into the Z. I need figure where to work.....what state to work in.....grad school no work? work no school? or grad school and work? Like it has been said to me a million times....always double the budget and time. I pretty much thought I would of had the Z done by now and did not see myself "running" out of Z funds. I have only thought about selling the project once in the past two weeks just due to fustration with it. So I figure I would just take a step away from it all before I do end up selling it. I normally do not quite doing something because it is not going my way but right now the Z will not get done. I would say the project is somewhere in the 55%-65% done range...lots of parts on hand to go into the car but one thing holding up another. Maybe I should have driven the Z stock for a while or something but just the feeling of having this thing for 2 yrs and NEVER drove it gets to me at times.....and yes I know many of you have been working on your cars for YEARS...lol
  3. for now atleast. I am going to work on the car for a few days here at David's house finishing up some little things and take it home (5 hrs away) and put it in the garage. Thanks to all for all the info/advice and David for the help up until this point but I think it is time for me to just put this to the side and forget about it for some time. Of course I will still be around HBZ reading/posting and checking up on updates on your cars! So make sure you keep me lookin everyday....which I know I will anyway because there is nothing else to do on the internet but HBZ.....LOL
  4. Bartman did you drill the dash or glue them on? I can not tell from the picture. Greg, David would be better at explaining what he did to get that setup but basically that pod is glued to the cover. I believe he made a small cut behind the pod and epoxy glued it to the cover.....David can chime in if he sees this thread. As for my setup, buttons on the wheel are for the horn.....thinking about using one as a kill switch for brake lights... and also yes there is another gauge where the a/c vent should be...hopes this helps.
  5. Greg here is David's solution Shameless plug of my dash
  6. Good info here. I am currently looking at a Subtle kit even though I will not be doing body work until next year. I have 17 x 8 all the way around right now and plan on mounting 245/35/17 until next year. With the kit, I could send the wheels back and get another inch and a half added and run wider tires.
  7. It will run just fine. Looks good and it came together really nice. Skip a day of work tomorrow and get it done for Sunday.
  8. I guess someone should note just in case a newbie does read this thread that 240z were last made in 1973. "early" style 260z with 240z bumpers were a 1974 model along with the "late" style with 280z bumpers. 260z were only made for one year....1974
  9. No concern about the fuel lines........I wouldn't want to be rear-ended at all. lol I am going to go with the other fitting for a cleaner look. I might be looking to run double lines to the fuel filter or just weld up the left side. I am held up for about another week because I had the wrong braided SS lines to work with the fitting I have. As for this week, I realized I have to pull the dash back out because the 72 dash harness does not plug up to the 73 engine bay harness. Once again 1 step forward........... Anyway this give me a chance to change my speedo and tach to the correct places and mod the glove box to fit the 280z plastic one. Also I have to finish up the front coil overs, order tires, mount q45 diff n axles and that will complete the rolling chassis stage. I know the car will be worth all this headache in the end!
  10. NULLBOUND --> Thanks for the link...those are perfect for what I want. Yes they are pricey and thanks for the positive feedback.
  11. LoL, no. All of them were quickly sold for parts to fund my LS1 project. Most time I know of someone who wants parts or something. I try not to stock pile parts and what doesnt't sell right away gets put into a barn. This has been the only way I have been able to get as far as I did during school with no job. Selling parts sure does beat work study! After a day of stripping them down....whatever is left gets crushed.
  12. Tonight I realized that I have really put my mothers 05 Hemi to work over the past year. I can't begin to count the miles I have put on it doing "Z" related stuff. She said to me the other day, "I am glad you got the 40k worth out of the Jeep". As the Jeep will hit 40k miles this week, I thought I would just put together a few pic of it at work or cars that got towed by it. Rochester, Ny --> Rockland Couny, Ny --> Alfred, Ny --> Rochester, Ny (600 miles) Ct --> Alfred, Ny (470 miles) Same day as above move... Pitts, Pa --> Rochester, Ny Flames_187 L28ET donor. Rochester, Ny -->Alfred, Ny (80 miles) EvilT L28ET Donor. Jamestown, Ny --> Rockland County, Ny ( 400+ miles) Last week! Here are some more I forgot to take pics of on the trailer. My 02 Ls1 donor, 98 TA with 18k (LS1), 79 280zx, 73 240z. Long Island, Ny --> Rochester, Ny Nj--> NYC (The Bronx) Long Island, Ny --> NYC (The Bronx) Auburn, Ny --> Alfred, Ny Car I don't have a pic of is 92 Nissan Sentra that was for my god sister. I need my own trailer because UHaul makes too much off me. LOL.

  14. So would I in 2 of them!
  15. The car is looking better everytime I see an updated pic. Gonna be a monster when it is all done
  16. I have now truely come fimilar with the term " 1 step forward and 1 million steps back". Always double time needed and budget and even when you plan well something will come up. I am what I would call a "Practice Mechanic", just learning how to wrench. So far at times the Z has been a PITA and thoughts of it never being done start to come to mind. I understand now why people sell projects and others just never get finished. David aka 1tuffz told me just to tackle one thing at a time and take small steps. So with that said I kicked myself in to high gear and tackle the "little projects". Before I knew it with some help from David things started to come together and there were less n less boxes around! Yes still have some ways to go but ALOT closer than I was a week ago. Now with school out of the way, we shall see how much I really get done. Now for some pics n comments Pic of AZ q45 mustbar installed with new uprights. Combo of these parts with the AZ rear Wilwood brakes and MM adj lower control arm. Just got a set of MM axles and stops for the q45 swap...more pics of everything Gas tank refinshed and sump built for it. Slots were cut out to drain into the sump to help during cornering and accelerations with low fuel...we will have to see how well it works when I get the car running. This pic shows how the -6 AN fitting attaches to the tank. I do not like how far it comes out due to the pipe threading on the tank....to threaded adapter ....to -6 adapter...to 90 degree fitting. I will have the -6 adapter welded to the tank....not sure what I will do with the other opening...run dual lines or weld it shut.....suggestions? Pic of front brakes installed. Hubs were cleaned, regreased and new bearings and new races. SS flex lines are all hooked up TO SS hardlines and ready to go. Rear hubs got the same treatment. Pic of bleed line and clutch slave for the T56. New clutch and flywheel was also installed ( Power Grip HD). This was done because I do plan on going with a bigger cam n such when the car is running. Pic of the motor n trans ready to go back into the engine bay. Not shown in the pics but I will have by next update is the rev switched modified. David's idea..... cut the plastic off the switch...also on the Speartech....connect the two then epoxy it.....all said and done...looks great and do not need to worry about it hitting tranny tunnel. "Started" to run fuel lines braided SS lines and found out I was sold the wrong lines! I bought 30 feet! Good thing I made a fuss and will be sending it back tomorrow and the correct lines shipped out to me this week. FPR w/ gauge mounted. Got my custom plate! And a bunch of little things that add up which I am pretty excited about. So feedback/comments are all welcome...... I am see the little light from a stick of matches at the end of the tunnel PS- Learning how to wrench is fun in the end.....school taught me how to learn. Don't want to be an engineer with no common sense!
