  1. Exactly the problem. In fact, when I put the rebuilt booster on and was adjusting the pushrod, the reaction disc fell out! So, being the lazy sort that I am, I fished the reaction disc out of the old booster and glued it to the end of the pushrod on the new booster. Now I'm carrying a spare reaction disc around in my rebuilt booster... Funny how a 1" x 1/4" rubber disc has so much affect on brake feel.
  2. Discussions of the above topics are now banned on this site. The moderators and admins have spent a couple weeks debating this and the concensus is that the threads generally degrade into name calling. We don't want that on this site. We discussed a couple alternatives but ultimately we couldn't come up with a way to allow these topics on this site and prevent some of the issues we've seen recently. And, BTW, this is a car site anyway. From this point forward, take these discussions elsewhere. Any posts that are political or religious in nature will be summarily deleted. I'm going to close all the recent threads (most mine...) that are political or religious in nature.
  3. I always laugh at that, "Due to us sucking at car prep, we coulda dun better."

  5. Those are the cars they "beat" at the time attack. Its the typical in your face kind of "sportsmanship." A spillover from basketball, football, etc.
  6. I can understand some kind of dress code when dealing with customers if the customers expect it. Ultimately you don't want to put anything in the way of making a sale. But, many companies confuse customers with co-workers. A customer is someone who will give your company more for product or services. The whole "internal customer" managment mantra is BS because the "internal customer" isn't paying. "Internal customers" are co-workers and their focus should be on the real, paying customers.
  7. The stock 6mm fuel line is good for 350 to 400hp. Same size as a -6 line.
  8. Agreed, and I agree that the RB is a better engine design and can ultimately make more power then the L6. My Datsun was on Hoosier R3S04s (DOT Street rubber) similar to the A048Rs the GT-R was running. The organizers of the OTC were contacted by SCC to see if anyone wanted to run their cars at the Time Attack. Because OTC was only a week after the SCC event most everyone declined although a few drivers (Doug Hayashi, Wayne Mellow) did attend the Time Attack and drove some of the cars.
  9. Actually, a stock powered Z with some suspension work feels a lot like a stock Miata. The differences are: Miata has better turn in. Z has better low and mid range torque. Miata has nicer steering. Z has better throttle control (lift throttle does more in a Z). Miata has better shifter and shift feel. Z has more top end acceleration (80 to 100). Miata has better gearing (2-3 shift). Call me Quad Ball! My older brother just had a testicle removed (cancer but easily fixed) and I now call him the "Uni Baller."
  10. SCC had a Time Attack event in April 2004 at Buttonwillow. Here are the times recorded for the competitors: http://buckfang.com/pages/tt_competition.html Later that month the Rusty Old Datsun ran in OTC and on the same configuration turned a 1:54:122 in testing. During the 2004 OTC the ROD turned a 1:55:028 after 5 days of racing. BTW... both the ROD and Skyline R34 GT-R were supposedly street legal.
  11. From TIG Depot (http://www.tigdepot.com):
  12. In the road race world that is even more true. Good, linear throttle response is very important to fast lap times. FYI... A somewhat poor example: my NA 320hp L6 powered 240Z was 6 seconds a lap faster around WSIR (supposedly a horsepower track) then Amir's 425hp SR20DET powered 260Z. Both cars had identical weight, tread width, tire brand, and drivers (me vs. Amir).
  13. Thanks Steve and Jon. I ended up buying a rebuilt booster for $120 as I already had a core. I'll pull the bad one off the car later this week and tear it a part and try to fix it. I've never rebuilt a booster so this will be something new.
  14. No, its still not that clear. Personally, I don't care who did what but at this point things are so confusing even a man as smart and politically connected as Tom MacGuire is having trouble figuring out who leaked what to whom: http://justoneminute.typepad.com/main/2005/07/novak_talked_to.html We are most likely going to have to wait until Fitzgerald issues indictments (or not) to get a clear idea of what happened. A lot of the information is in the Grand Jury testimony (which is sealed but is being leaked by pretty my anyone involved).
  15. Bought another Z over the weekend: 1971 Series 1 with a 2.8 and a 5 speed. Besides a rear suspension issue (car turns right when the rear suspension bottoms) I've got a strange braking problem. The car has the stock MC and booster and stock front and rear brakes. The pedal moves freely (with no resistance) about 2" inches and then BAM! Lots of brake. There's almost no modulation, just a rock hard brake pedal after 2" of no resistance travel. I've never felt this in any Z (or any other car for that matter) and all the components appear stock. With no booster (drove the car and shut the motor off) the brakes feel fairly normal. I haven't taken anything a part but I suspect the booster or the pushrod is the culprit. Any other ideas?
  16. No ones done it that I know of but there have been some discussions on this board. Try a search on the GM 3.8 or 3800.
  17. So, Vintage Racing is safer and easier on your car then regular wheel to wheel racing with SCCA/NASA...
  18. I've been skating here at betaMotorsports for 3 years and they haven't fired me yet! When I was part owner of a software company I was fired at least weekly. Some of the reasons were: 1. Refusing to wear a suit and tie. 2. Arguing loudly against a confusing server/network acronym naming standard (previously, the domain was "Looney Tunes" and all the servers were characters in that cartoon series.) 3. Throwing a lemon jelly donut in the President's face during a meeting. 4. Starting a "Ken Head" coloring contest featuring the President's face as the coloring subject. 5. Having Kaos (the international organization of evil) hijack the newly introduced intra-net that was being completely ignored. 6. Calling Vice-President of Marketing a "complete f***ing idiot" in an executive staff meeting. I'm sure there were more reasons...
  19. Its looking more and more like Judith Miller from the NYT is one that leaked. BTW... Keep this thread civil guys. There's a serious discussion going on with the admins about eliminating all political and religious speech on this board.
  20. Per the SCC article. Toshi's car has been held up by a lot of the sport compact magazines as the US standard for Skylines. Maybe it is, maybe its not. BTW... I'm not dissing the RB engine. They are wonderful engines and are a "better" design then the L6. I"m just trying to add information to the discussion, not just opinions. You RB guys can put your shields down...
  21. I've used BAX Global and been very happy: http://www.baxglobal.com. Also try http://www.freightquote.com.
  22. Well... no. The majority of the people in CA and NY did not vote for Bush, but that still leaves tens of millions of people in each of those states that did vote for Bush. Don't color me blue just because I live in a blue state.
  23. Just to add to the information... From SCC http://www.sportcompactcarweb.com/features/0302scc_skyline/: The best Skylines they could find in the US were putting around 600hp to the rear wheels with one supposeldy hitting 700 to 800 if it was ever tuned properly. In 1982/1983 Electramotive built endurance L6 turbo engines putting out close to 700hp at the crank in their 280ZX GTP cars and I know that they had some qualifying/sprint engines that were putting out 750: http://www.a2zracer.com/page85.html
