zedevan replied to chepito's topic in Body Kits & Paint
thanks justin...thats my car lol and the halogen look fine, just u can't see anything with them plus having clear lenses makes ur car look heaps newer/cleaner, yet alone crisp white light at night. its best money i've spent on my car so far, just the urge for better lights again is still there... -
New headlight conversions for 240,260,280Z's

in regards to sealing hid's has anyone seen the pictures of the lights on submerged in water? i remember reading something about it once, i think how stupid it is to do... mine are not sealed very well at all, minimal amount of dust/condensation gets into the headlights, however once they woudlnt turn on and found it to be as water was shorting the connectors on the back of the bulb :s since then i have made a quality inner fender out an old folder and i havn't had a problem since, i'm concidering getting it made out of sheet metal or getting someone to weld a larger sphere onto the back of the headlight metal bracket thing. i think the best thing to do would be to get headlight covers and mount the projector halfway down the bucket and mould it in and paint it all black, and mayb a reflector next to it (or another projector, but flashing hid's is a bad idea...). the honda tsx headlights i think would b perfect for this as they are already grouped close to each other and you could make it look quite nice, like what a db9/z8/mazerati etc have however since i like the headlight buckets without the covers i think the porsche (997?) headlights would be great, depending what sort of angle they need to sit on, and if they are even the right diameter etc, i didn't look into it that far due to money. the depth i dont think is that big an issue as you could just make up a really good inner fender, and the projector is high up in the lights and if you mounted the top of hte light flush the base would sit foward into the bucket a fair bit so there should be room? not that i've looked into it that much...what about bug eye'd wrx lights? -

yeah porsche lights moulded into the headlight buckets so they are still recessed a bit would b sexy, no idea how the shape follows or anything, but i've thought about this, but i'm yet to come across some headlights cheap lol, but i'm not really looking either... the other similiar ones would b beetle and mini, and i guess u could always try the outside circle from a c-class merc, although they are probably on to much of an angle -
from my little knownledge on the subject all the australian 240k's had the outside of hte inner circle clear and the inside red, so doesn't look as sexy, although u could always mould these parts using a techniquie i came across sometime on the net...

nice buy, i've got one of them sitting at home, well a jap import gt4, had it on the road a couple of months and it started having electrical problems...my advice is dont roll start it in reverse! have you by any chance come across a manual in them for english on the net? we couldn't drop the gearbox out as coudln't find the remaining bolts so gave up and havn't had a chance to look at it since...prob 2 yrs now lol
-
looks good, u should cut the holes so there is only one and it merges out of the orginal zed hole, it woudl look like an austin martin front, i'll photoshop it if i'm bored at work sometime just coz i think it would look sexy
-
look at the results you can get! oh wait...thats roll on paint lol, even before its final cut and polish...sorry had to do it
-
any bright light requires that they aren't aimed up in peoples eyes, hence y ur not allowed to drive around with high beams on? h4's also require the correct headlights to work? as in u can't just use ur sealed beam lights? same goes for hid...well i guess u could cut up a sealed beam light? the zed headlight buckets do limit how wide the lights can be however, like my lights only project solid light to everywhere i can see foward through the front window, not much out the passenger window, mine are pretty crap compared to some otheres which are real wide...but it'd b pointless in the zed anyway as there woudlnt b lots of overlap due to the buckets. sorry talking in circles, tired lol. as long as ur happy with the amount u can see when ur driving at night, thats all that matters, i went with a drive with my x the other night who thought my headlights were the biggest waste of money ever, but while going fast down roads where u could hardly see anything she told me i should get some better ones that have high beam also as my 550watt driving lights weren't cutting it lol

sorry mate, i posted a pic up on a local forum too but i linked to ur site also, where as on this site i assume everyone has enough of a brain to see where the picture is and look around if they are interested, or go to the orginal moparts thread, although yours is a great summary and short progression through everything ...you can see where people are coming from??? i didn't realise servers are actully smart lol my opinions the same as your's peggus, as i'm sure alot of others are too, due to how far this thing has spread, i'm glad i came across it on this forum i think your hood looks so dam sexy, and anyone who says that its stupid needs to look at more OEM paint jobs and then try this themselves. also this technique it gives me a chance to paint my car a colour i would never pay 5g for it to be painted! i could also never spray at my house as my mum has allegies, the smell from this stuff isn't that bad, and as you can just do it in an openish area its all good

it depends on the temperature start out not mixing any in, so you atleast know the reason why you're adding it in, then keep adding in until it starts to have a negative effect...such as running and yes "waiting for a z", some people are hacks...and dont appreshiate the time and level of involvement needed

thanks for the tips zfixxer, luckily one of my mates does body work at a porsche repairer and is happily giving me any tips. i do appreshiate that body work is a skill, and people who do it all day are bound to be better at it, as they have had HEAPS more practice, althoguh it is a skill, not a talent, so if i never start i will never learn. if i had not been successful in getting into the field i quite possibly flukeishly have, i would have pursued panel beating, or cabniet making, not sure which... i am still in the position where if i was going to spend 5g on paint i would spend however much it is to take it to bare metal so the rust is actully gone. my car was respayed by "professionals", lol, back 10yrs ago, for just under 5g and the bottom of the doors have since rusted out, along with rust along the bottom of the doglegs (i think thats their name?), up the top of the doors, the top of the passenger c piller, the driver a piller has some surface rust, and thats all i can remember for now. so due to this my thoughts are the previous owner wasted his money, and i'd prefer not to do the same also while having fun with my car, i managed to scratch down one side of it, instead of paying however much to get this resprayed, or bothering trying to set it up, and do it myself, which i'm sure requires a bit of practice, unless ur a freak like 240zhoke, and then have to baby the car for fear of it happening again, i'd prefer to do this technique and keep driving the way i do although in saying this i'm now thinking of getting a go kart instead of hybridzing my car, as panels are alot cheaper lol i'm going to try to use all marine products by interlux, as they are made to sit in the sun in salt water, but even if it does go funny over time, atleast the paint hasn't cost me 5g...

i dont belive anyone is saying this is a showcar type paint job (although some people on moparts are saying if you spend way to much time on it, a brightside paint job might look good enough for it to pass as a factory paint job under close inspection, but judging by all the factory paint jobs i've been looking at more closely, thats not really saying much), and its SO true that internet pics dont show anywhere near enough detail normally to be of any use, however some give an alright indication, but you have to try out this kinda paint job and see if you're happy with it...on a spare panel preferably i've always been a bit curious as to why it would cost more to fix a bad paint job a person has tried to do themselves over a bad old paintjob? is it a case of having to sand it flat again as the person screwed up badly in that department or ? particually when my thoughts are that if you're going to spend 5g on paint, u'd most likely take it back to bare metal and put the car in a bath just to be safe, which would be very close to the same amount of effort either way? so to me this generalisation of it costing more sounds like "oh so he's tried to do it without us huh, well he'll pay!" lol http://www.electric-lemon.com/?q=node/174 check it out, its sexy personally i would be happy with this sort of finish, and the knownledge that at anytime i can be bothered i can always sand away at it to make it a bit smoother, and if i cut away to much its no big issue, also that my body work doesn't have to b perfect before i start painting (and possilby blowing however much i'd pay for someone to spray it), as each sand between every coat i'm getting it better and better, and if i dent a panel i dont have to get all the surround panels of the car sprayed for the paint to blend in correctly.

i've got some used koni (classic?) rear inserts i was going to put into my car, but then came across a pair that had just been rebuilt so used them instead. they're not mine, but i'm sure the owner has no need for them...i was going to pay $200ish for them i think. i can get the number off them if u want to check if they will match your fronts etc, from memory they are 8611 or 8612
-
nice cars, can i ask how you have so much money? just ur not even the legal age to work here in australia! lol if u dont want people to think you're a hack, dont say you can drive like a pro, then post pics of ur replaced front end do to an accident...although i look forward to seeing your name in the pro driving circuit in the coming years...i'm just depressed as a guy not much older than me just came 3rd in an F1 race...

fd seats sit higher, they were AU$400, but asking around i got quoted from $300-$600, just no one had stock except this guy was getting them in, waited a couple of months and i'm happy, a good mix between stock looking and recaro type look. DeusEx has a good point regarding his ass not fitting in them, they are quite tight seats, the tightest OEM seats i've sat in, besides ones with electronic side adjustment stuff. the way i have them mounted they sit higher, using the 240z rails sounds interesting, and i was thinking of doing that but didn't really try it at all. i cut out the base of the drivers rail so it would sit lower, and if you were excited you could always bolt them to the floor or something else... owen ur car makes me want to bog the hell out of a cracked dash and get it glossy, it is just another awesome looking thing you've done to your car! but i think you need the "z" in the roof like davyz for it to b the ultimate

i am no expert on the subject, although IMHO you would be best to install proper HID projectors. this is based on the amount of "glare" that is visible above the brightest spot in the pic you took of the output. Putting a HID kit into this headlight would not only make those spots brighter and hence blind on comming traffic more, but it would possibly make it worse as the bulbs are longer so more light reflects off surfaces it shouldn't be. you'll also most likely find that the bright spots just get brighter, so your eyes still have the same difficultly in seeing, if not more if you mounted projectors behind your headlights, like what i've done, as the front of them are not clear glass, a fair bit of light would be dropped by this, however for use with the lights it was designed to be used with it would help spread the light better. so its up to you whether you want to buy a HID kit, personally i think they are a waste of money compared to OEM parts second hand i have 550watt hella driving lights which are angled to slightly overlap and shine past where the cutoff on my hid's are, at which point the hid's are still brighter, not bad for 35watts lol, however if i wanted HID highbeams i'd be best off getting bi-xenons which just remove the peice of metal thats there to block off this light. and if i wanted the beams wider i'd have to mount the projectors further foward as the sugar scoops or whatever you want to call them get in the way. so the ultimate lights for our cars really are the ones 280zforce has yep, dam that bastard! hope this helps, for now i'd just enjoy being able to see heaps better than sealed beams let you! hid's are nice, not sure if htey are neccasary, but i love mine

redfive, h4 globes are basically the standard used in cars in the early 90's, so its still one hell of an upgrade, and you could put a HID kit in it if u wanted to blind the hell out of everyone! i semi agree with AK-Z, but its hard to judge by the pic as to what colour bulbs you have with white balance doing its thing etc. with H4's the brightest are still a yellow colour, then the more blue you go to the less light they put out. i know quite a few people who have bought the $100+ phillips diamond vision type bulbs and say they can't see crap at night, but atleast normal bulbs are cheap if you choose to change to them
-
thanks sparks, they are FD rx7 seats, which i think is series 6+. the install was pretty easy, probably around an hour a seat max using the rx7 rails. however i ended up modifying the drivers side one to sit lower and more centered though which took me atleast 4 hours as i dont have the correct tools! the best writeup for information on the install that i found, and was inspired by is http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=23226 and i have more of a writeup on my install on viczcar
-
wow i can't wait to see it on the car, it looks really interesting! you should extend the centre hole down so it looks more zed like, mayb even 350z
-
wow i'm loving the red interior! here's a pic of my interior with newly install rx7 seats! great upgrade imho, alot more supportive than 30yr old foam!
-
you should modify the rear lights, or get some 2+2 rear lights since they are already wider and put htem in tehre so to people not in the know it looks factory. how are you going to merge it into the doors? and you doing the same thing up the front? *opps sorry should of read what you had written lol, i vote for just spacing out the fronts and leaving the gap at the front of the doors like that car which there are pics of on this site, but no one seems to know anything about it...

HELP! Will these fit my 76 280z?
zedevan replied to New2TheZ2006's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
going to wheel selling shops is the easiest way to find rims that will fit within a budget to a degree, this site also helps alot if u are in america. any of the shops could tell you that u need 4x114.3 as the stud pattern with close to a 0 offset...so Quantum.Tek.S101.18x7.5.4x100.73.42.blkwms wont fit, unless you get adaptors, but after helping a mate out by swapping rims with him for a bit, i would recommend against adaptors pretty strongly! also since everyone wants dish now a days y get rid of it on a car where you can actully have dish without spokes that bend back on themselves! -
the bottom ones are factory 260z rims, atleast here in australia...look around on http://www.viczcar.com in the gallery if u want somep ics of them in better condition on a zed the top ones are ugly, possibly off a starion of some yr? not sure sorry

what seats r they cygnusx1? they look comfy, and ur blue lights look pretty dam sexy

i've now found the tool, just have to buy the fitting for the size nutserts i have which is pretty cheap. the tool however wasn't so cheap at the places i looked at (screw selling places) at over AU$150 i'd say it was pretty expensive for what it is lol i like ur sock analogy, i used the tool on a nutsert i found that was the size of the fitting on it, and it crumpled it twice basically, so behind and infront of the sheet metal, kinda special, and i'm not so sure if htey would crumple this well without the tool?
