  1. I am looking at doing a setup on my car for the track. Looked thru the past threads and only one I could find was back in 2004 by DavidK but his pics are not there anymore. Does anyone have pics of there setup? I have an idea on how I am going to use naca ducts with my front spoiler but not sure on how to secure around wheel and rotor area. Must race cars use a plate with a round cylinder welded on it to secure hose but am looking for an easier way to secure. Trying to get by w/o upgrading to vented rotors, right now using Toyo non-vented and disc upgrade from 280ZX on rear.
  2. I would say that unless you got real lucky and found a dash w/o cracks or spent the big bucks on buying a complete new one almost everyone has one of those in there car. At least I have in every first gen car I have had. It is just a matter if you want the full or half cover. Your choice. Tom
  3. It is usually the other way around. From the underside of the hatch into the bottom of the spoiler. Then you can go the next step and mold it into the body with either fiberglass or bondo. Tom
  4. Not the worst thing I ever saw. Almost like a Yenko muscle car. But not sure if any came from Datsun like that.
  5. Well after Daytona I was all fired up to get going on the next car. So up on blocks it went and then depression set in. Alot more rust than I thought, especially rear quarters. Looks like a YZ rear kit with stock front and some type of front spoiler. I thought about the VW fenders but they wouldn't cover enough of the rust area I have to cut out. And after seeing all the V8 cars come down from up north I would love that power plant. Now I see how it takes multiple years to do some of these projects. Hope I can keep myself motivated enough so I don't give up and just sell it.
  6. Who needs Chip Foose to design your paint scheme when you have guys like you. I need computer skills badly.
  7. Looks like your in my boat. Room is not a problem. I just picked up a 280 as a long term project plus my track car and my buddys car is also in my shop. I'd take every first gen I could get my hands on. What else is there to do with 4 acres. Go cart track to practice driving skills!!!!
  8. Just got home from the track lapping day and the rain held off all day.I was great to finally put a person with all the posts you read on this site. Hopefully the rain will hold off for the rest of the week for you guys. It is back to work for me. Traffic never stops... Tom
  9. http://album.hybridz.org/showphoto.php?photo=16285&cat=500&ppuser=11947 Looks similar to the one I made for my track car.
  10. http://album.hybridz.org/showphoto.php?photo=5190&size=big&cat=500&ppuser=11947 I put them on my late 260 which is the same as an early 280. Other rhan making brackets for rear and drilling a hole in side of rear quarter to hold up the sides it fit OK.
  11. Hope you make it down to Daytona. Are you planning on doing the track event. I am curious to see how those V8s handle on the track compared to my L6. I have read others stories about their track days but have never done an event with a V8 Z car on track with me. I am just glad I only have to drive 30 minutes to get to Daytona. Tom
  12. Seems like such a waste, you should stuff that big V8 in my car. Maybe my next project I can get away from the L6 and do something different. All the best and get it running because I know you can't be enjoying that Subie very much. All wheel drive and massive power with the comforts of home.
  13. I crashed my 72 240 in 1980 first year of college. Took me 15 years to get another one and have not stopped since. Yes firefighters love to get out the cutting tools, but in their defense they have certain rules and procedures to follow to make sure everyone is safe. I get to see them do that everyday and you think, another totaled car. My dad told me cars can be replaced, people cannot. Hug your family then start looking for your next project. Just don't wait as long as I did. Tom
  14. Alan that is amazing. I don't even know that much about my own life history. I can't keep that much info in my head it might explode.
  15. I never realized that the complexities of relationships could be narrowed down to its most simple form so easily. Life IS good........
  16. Usually when I here that story I have to look for blood or hair transfer because it almost always is some young kid he does not want to tell mom and dad that they just wrecked the car goofing off. But then it is the infamous black dog came out of nowhere story. Good luck with the insurance. We got stuck in VA on vacation after hitting a black dog that ran out in front of me. Uh Oh, maybe I should start believing everyone who tells me that story.
  17. Those tires were screaming for mercy in every corner. At least you had one dry day to have some real fun. Can't wait till Daytona to get back on the track myself.
  18. Just looked it up in MSA catalog. Kaminari three hole fiberglass spoiler part #50-1422 for $329.95
  19. Well I can only hope that she stays local in SC and doesn't run for national office. I wonder why I got out of the education business for law enforcement.
  20. Mr Kopsho, I live in Oviedo, Seminole Co. Are you going to Z fest in Daytona?
  21. I thought I had the same problem on 72 240Z on a trip from KY to Kansas. Tried everything out on the road but could not figure it out. Car would barely make it up any hills on the interstate. Got home and my dad took off the valve cover and the camshaft had twisted in half and I had driven all the way home on the 3 front cylinders. Shows how strong those L6s really are.
  22. The best thing about where the rust is on that car is that if you do any kind of body kit or flares it will cover most of those areas. Which means you don't have to do pristine body work only enough to get all the rust. Then when you do your next repaint or rebuild you can go further on your repairs.
  23. I just picked up a 77 280Z as a new project that is in about the same condition as yours. After you do one you want the next one to be a little harder to challenge you more. You will definitely learn more skills with a car like that. Have fun and it will end soon enough.
  24. After having 1 of each the weight difference should not be a factor with HP you are going for. The difference IMO is going to be ride quality. The 240 being the one you will feel more of the road in to the 280 which will have a more solid stable feeling ride. Just depends on what you want to feel when your cruising.
  25. I have a 1974 260 that does the same thing. Just started doing it after awhile. The only thing I could surmise is that the spring on the latch is getting weak because I can lift the latch a little bit and it closes and locks fine.
