  1. I personally say for this car, "RUN AWAY!!!" Seriously, you are buying a car that is going to take even more time and a LOT more money to make it decent. You'll put tons of time into the car and realize it will almost never be as nice as the next guy who paid a little more and bought a much more decent car. I bought a much much better one then that for $1000. Sure, it has a leaky sunroof, but it has urethane bushings, 5 speed, R200 w/3.9 gears, Starion seats, Eibach springs, tokiko struts, etc etc. The point is: keep looking and waiting for the best deal (or at leas a better car anyway) to show up. If you are patient and keep looking, it will. Hang in there and save your money for a better car. Davy
  2. Looking great! Just wait until it's dialed in! MBUAHAHAHAAA! Davy
  3. You have a manual you can go to with the JTR setup, which makes the JTR position 'easier" in my opinion. I love a reference manual! Davy
  4. Alex, that was purrrfect child psychology! Nice going. I kow you played poker face with him...maybe it was real because I know he annoyed the crap out of you. It amazes me how some parents refuse to 'parent' their children. Pete's example of the neighbor kids was even worse. Davy

    Ahem.

Cool pic, Aux! I think our Z cars fit us better then the Miata. Still, if I was a short man, I would think about buying one! Stock, the Miata is underpowered, but that can be improved. Remember the Monster Miatas of the early 1990's? Ford powered cars if I remember right. Weight disty was not too good either if memory serves. Still, this is a cool concept! Love the LS1. Davy
  6. Chappy, I have only seen one BMW 6 seried with a Ford 302 conversion. They claimed it was very fast. I assume yours will be faster! I can't help you with further info except to say similar things have been done. This is just going to take some time and fabrication. This would make for one of the ultimate setups in my opinion. Good luck! Davy
  7. Well said! The quicker, the better!!!!!!!!!!!! Davy
  8. Jim, you did R0N's car? Man, his car is pretty sweet! If you are doing some paint jobs like that, then you are very good at what you do! Kudos to that! It'll be a while before I can get my painted *sigh* Still have to do the JTR conversion, ugh.... Davy
  9. The air dam won't be a problem, but I am wondering about the sides and rear valence interfering with the bottom of the flares. Let us know what you find out! Davy
  10. BUMP! Man, I do want to see this happen...post some pics, man!! Davy
  11. I didn't get a chance to buy control arms from Mike, but he's a good guy to deal with (Aux & sold him a sway bar ) and I know Mike is good to dela with because he gave Aux an A arm out of the goodness of his heart! I have not bought anything from scca, but I have bought a few things from Ross at MML and I have to say he is a great guy, straightforward, and easy to deal with---a true Canadian!! My hat is off to all of you! Davy
  12. GOOD! It's about time those bastards, er, people should refund the $$$! I was working in the car business in 2000 and the dealership was STILL charging customers for this privilege. Grrr. Davy
  13. Well, yes and no. The weight is on the motor mounts, but the engine in the JTR position is farther back, such that the front of the motor is nearly behind (even with?) the strut towers. Not so with the Scarab set up. Also, getting an engine higher up in the car does not improve handling from a theoretical point of view, from anything I have read...at least not that I'm aware of. Interesting that the two Z cars are really competitive and the Scarab is still "faster". Clearly, this is due to non-identical drivers, engines, and chassis setup. I'm not trying to be snotty, but I am so darn opinionated lol Davy
  14. Yes, but they are expensive and Grumpy didn't have too many good things to say about the particular company either. If you want a Nissan motor (4.5L V8 with DOHC and nearly 300 hp) and AT to go with it....in fact, all the necessary wiring...heck, the whole darn car, I'll sell you my Infinity Q45 for only $3000. Fly here and drive it home Davy
  15. That makes me feel good and gives me some encouragement--I have to put a car on ebay as well, only I will not be shipping it anywhere (I hope). Davy
  16. I just bought a used Subtle Z hood from z ya, made by John Washington--it's really top notch and I'm happy with it. Hopefully he can supply you with a ZX hood. Davy
  17. Smog? Or smoke? Might be a carb adjustment. What is a tune-up besides plugs, wires, cap, rotor, timing, and fluids? Carb Adjustment! That would be my guess if they did everything else. It does not matter what brand of gas you run IMO. Davy
  18. They will be hitting you with a $300 smog impact fee (at least they were two years ago and I doubt that has changed) and, starting Oct 1, 2003, just days away, you'll get a new, more expensive dyno smog instead of the old method. Davy
  19. Scott, Scott, SCOTT!!!!!!! Do a search first Yeeeesssss, this was posted TWICE in the forum before you, BUDDY! Davy PS--I do think that it is amazing. You too, no?
  20. The pics are great, thanks! I like the way you did that modification using the later style cross member. I also like your motor and the detail you put into it. Davy
  21. Yes, the dreaded pucker factor that I hate. My 260Z was a pain to drive in the wet and I didn't like that at all, frankly. The tires were "decent," but not good all-weather tires so I think it was due to the tires and not so much the car. I had a 510 with fat BF Goodrich ties and it would hydroplane like nobody's business---not fun. Davy
  22. dsommer also had a problem with fitting the motor in the engine bay and clearing the shaft--it turned out to be his spacers were swapped from side to side. Also, there has been more then one member who has installed the set-back plates running backward which moves the engine forward in the chassis. I'm surprised that there are JTR cars from the exact same years that do not have clearance issues and ones that do. Davy
  23. Hmmm, I'll have to look into it--but I have no time till the weekend. If they are the same rather short screws, I have "a few" from the parts car that I could send you. Again, I have no time until the weekend, sorry. Davy
