'fast-revving' short stroke is BS
DavyZ replied to Heavy Z's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
All that said, I'm making sure the motor I use is 350 ci or bigger For the LT1 swap I won't be using a stroker crank--the turbo should make the iron move just fine. Davy -
Art, make sure you change your profile to reflect the new email address Davy

That sounds fair for a set of Vortech heads. With a mild port/polish job, they'll be near the top of the heap in terms of flow. In fact, they don't really need much in the way of porting...I like that! Davy

I also have block huggers on my V8 and I can tell you the spark plugs are in plain sight. I can't imagine more then 10 minutes tops, and a beer, to change the plugs. Even with "rams horn" manifolds the job is easy. Welcome to the board and please use the search function. You can also download threads and websites into files on your computer to form a library of sorts. Davy

The problem with "black humor," or anything subtle for that matter, is that the posts don't pick up intonation, facial expressions, etc. The emoticons are supposed to help to convey this. Unfortunately DAW did not do this. So here is one for him: I hope that feels good Davy

Good turbos. They have a three bolt flange and your manifold on the Z has a four bolt flange....perhaps make an adapter? If you can't configure it, let me know if you want to sell it--I would be using it for something other then an L6... Davy

He has enough millions$$ he could do so ten times over. Still, being relatively young and all, he'll never get racing out of his blood. So where do old racers go? NASCAR or course! Davy

I think it needs a chin spoiler, cowl hood, FMIC, and some flares...after that, the car would look great! Good job photoshopping that Ferrari front, but the car almost looks too friendly IMO. I'm not sure why, but it does. Davy

I was advised by ScottieGNZ to install forged pistons at about 8:1 or 8.5:1 compression. If you want to turbocharge an LT1, make the GN motor your model. If you do that, you insue that the motor will be more then "it feels about right." Turbocharging a high compression motor is not advisable or really necessary. I wish I was more technical, more definitive, and could answer the question directly, but I can't right now. How much horsepower are you going for? Use of the car? What do you want it to do? The turbo LT1 is my next swap, and I'll get to that after I finish my present one. The best EFI motor that has ease of modification, bang for the buck, and a good history is the LT1. It will rock Davy

This was NOT a good topic to bring up out in the open since it would result in some charred feathers like it did here. I'm disappointed that DAW decided to seemingly not think about a topic that could cause some flames and one that has already been discussed before! I'm all for ideas and such, but use some tact on sensitive issues...and also the search function. I'm considering deleting this thread because it has very little use for the site overall (again, the topic was discussed and we did what we did). If anyone thinks there is a problem or issue with the site, every moderator and administrator has email or PM that can be used to contact them with! The ADMIN FORUM you don't see is the first forum that the administrators and moderators go to when they log on. Topics and issues about the site, members, etc are discussed there, so use the PM or email to bring up sensitive issues---they are discussed by us! Not sure if I should delete or lock this thread Moderators? Davy

There are driveshaft shops that will custom make one for you in your area--the yellow pages are a start. Also, you can talk with rodders in your area to find out where they go or who they recommend for the work. Davy

...something wicked this way comes... Car is looking downright mean! Davy

I'll play the blacksheep here: do an LT1 (not TPI) with T56 motor/tranny combo and we can always turbocharge it in the future if you get 'tired' of it. Gobs of torque and power, even decent gas mileage in town, efi, gotta love it. Davy

Small changes and details make the difference
DavyZ replied to blueovalz's topic in Body Kits & Paint
As usual, Terry, you hit the nail on the head with respect to the design. I like the new changes you have made and I think they enhance what you have already accomplished 10X at least. For your sake I hope you will arrive at an "it's finished!" state so you can enjoy your car on the track and on the street Thanks for always being helpful and including great information on costom body fabrication here on the site. Kyle and Yuichi sold them at http://www.strictlyz.com/customer/home.php but I'm not so sure anymore. You may want to call them and ask. Davy

Silicone boy, I have discussed this topic in depth with ScottieGNZ and I am now convinced that bigger is not always better. Case in point, I figured about how much HP I wanted and then decided what turbo(s) I wanted for the engine. Getting back to "bigger is not better": the size of the turbos is deceiving, especially when you are smacked in the face by magazine cars with over-the-top turbo setups. Would you believe I am going for 500 too 550 HP on one T04E? Yep, no problem! And that is one turbo, Baby. Twin T04B's would be awesome and could give you much more power then you desire. I think you'll be fine. Remember that GN cars are making sick amounts of power on one, relatively stock turbo... I originally wanted to fab my own EFI system and all, but after calculating $$$ for everything, I realized that I am not a plastic surgeon and have to be more practical if I want my family to eat something other then the venerable PB&J every nite. So.....I decided that cheap EFI and a stout engine comes in the way of the Chevy LT1. I have the direction and the contacts to make this happen in due time. 500 HP will be easy, get reasonable gas mileage around the town with the dropped 8.5:1 compression pistons, yet fly under 8lbs of boost Good luck! jonzer12, one word: PAYPAL Yep, if you like to keep some cash safe with no paper trail, just open an account and keep it all there. You have a password and she won't, period. I don't "hide" money from my wife because she knows that I have a small 'business' account there for buying and selling car parts so she doesn't need to know the exact balance or anything. Infact she doesn't care. I don't "steal" money from our budget, so all is well. Remember: it's for car parts for buying and selling them on the web--that's it, plain and simple. Davy

Andrew, If you don't have this link, at least it will get you going in the right direction: http://www.grannysspeedshop.com/ They specialize in V8 RX7's. A lot of links on the site too Davy

I'm 6' 2" 210 lbs, but some of you fellers seem aweful HUGE to say the least. A better topic might be "Why do these small cars attract such big guys?" Davy

A little sign of things to come......Cobra killer...
DavyZ replied to Tim240z's topic in Non Tech Board
You're a stud, Tim, really. Great job!!! That is one way to perservere through adversity!!!!!!!!!!! I have always like the look of frenched in license plates--they give depth to the rear end and make the plate look "finished." Davy -
My first post, and some problems I've had.
DavyZ replied to a topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
NOOOOOOoooooo! I don't think Pete could stomach doing a Scarab type fo kit after all the research he has put into his car! His car at the very least has "JTR-type" of mounts. Pete, correct me if I am wrong, but that is the extent of what I know about it! SportZ2, sorry to hear you spent that much money and their kit wasn't made as well as it seemed. There are guys on the forum with the MSA kits, but I've never heard them complain about them or their install issues. Hmmm. You'll notice that most guys on the Chevy forum run either JTR (majority) or Scarab. Davy -
Scarab vs Setback? The true test.

Thanks for iterating what I just can't seem to say! Davy -
I highly recommend Paypal for these types of transactions--they also verify that you have paid the slug his due. No questions asked; he can pound salt if the email from Paypal says the money was sent to his account. Besides, no one said what the BEST reason for having a Paypal account: it's a secret account away from the wife!! Davy
