  1. So I guess you are happy with the double pumper? Glad to hear it is sooo good. Now I'm very curious, but don't have the funds for yet another carb. I'll stick to the 3310 750 for now. Thanks for the info, Pete. Davy
  2. Strictly Z Try this place--service is great and they are local...at least to me!!! Davy
  3. He may very well be on vacation now that it is summer. Davy
  4. I had a TR7 that I was going to do John's V6 conversion to---probably would be better than the V8 IMO. For a TR7 conversion, I'm sure his kit is great, but stay away from his Z car conversion kit, since there are better ones for the money. His is the only TR7 kit I have seen, and I'm pretty sure it is well thought through after I did the research about it. I can't remember anything bad regarding the kit. It would be a great conversion, but make sure you don't get the V6 T5---make a V8 T5 input shaft work with the V6 and you'll be miles ahead in the reliability department. Just my $.02. Davy
  5. Welcome to the forum! Your combo sounds good----all you need is money! Good luck! Davy
  6. Chris, click on the postal envelope icon at the top of SpeedRacer's post and you'll get his email. Davy
  7. Jim, you stud, thanks for the great info!!! Davy
  8. The exhaust system is thought to be part of the chassis not the engine. In theory this means using the stock DATSUN exhaust system, not the Camaro's. Ideally, they would want to see something "factory" on the car, but when doing a conversion, neither the stock Datusun exhaust nor the Camaro exhaust will BOTH adequately fit the car AND do the work of controlling emissions, follow? Therefore, you will need a custom exhaust on the car, period. A cat is in order since 1) the car came with one originally and 2) they want something on there that works for the system in general. BTW, this does not mean that you have to cut out the Camaro cats and weld 'em up. Aftermarket cats should be fine. Just remember that they have to do what they are designed to do in reducing emissions, so make every effort to put them in the place they (or 'it') will do the most good (close as possible to the front of the system). Hopefully this helps. Davy
  9. I hate to burst your bubble, but it's no where near that. I think that looks sell a car more than anything else, even if the other stuff you can't see is really trick, so your car might be worth anywhere from $4K to $10K depending on how beautiful it is. "Worth" is totally subjective, so you'll have to find the 'right' buyer at the right price to make a deal you are happy with. Sounds like you have a very nice car. Davy
  10. As a rule of thumb, the small block Chevy heads are basically interchangeable on every small block. I would not build a performance motor with two different heads, but if it stock, it probably won't matter much. Vortec heads are not a bad upgrade for the price, and will raise your compression ratio if memory serves me correctly (58cc vs 76cc??) Keep researching, and buy a good engine building book from David Vizard--you'll get some good info. Davy
  11. Dude, since you are up here, just keep looking--they will crawl out from under the rocks if you just keep looking. If you have the money, they will come. As soon as I actually had the money, then a decent one with mods finally presented itself. There is nothing wrong with going the smog legal route on a 280Z; it can be done very easily actually; just keep the smog stuff from the donor car and you'll be fine. You'll have to get a catalytic converter (or two if you run duals) and they can be bought rather cheaply. Owen has a performance cat (Random Technology?) that would work great on a 280Z. You have the JTR book yet? Make sure you get that thing too. Davy
  12. Excellent find for $2K. Can't tell you how much money you saved by going that route since you had the chance. I can't tell you much about the TH350, but did you smell the tranny fluid? Does it smell burnt? That would give you an idea, but not if he just changed the fluid. The operating temperature is excellent--DON'T CHANGE A THING! 190 degrees is fine, and 170 in town is fantastic. If you had an overdrive, like that 5 speed, I bet your highway temps would be about 175 or so. Perfect. Congrats on the find!!! Davy
  13. All right fellow HybridZers, enough comments from the peanut gallery! Hahaha I guess we asked for it with a topic like that, eh? Serves us right!!! lol Davy
  14. I have heard they do excellent work and offer a lifetime warranty if memory serves me correctly, but the big turn off was the PRICE. It was cheaper(?) to buy a new OEM dash instead of refinishing it through them. Still, they use a thicker plastic that will hold up much better than the crack-prone factory one. Davy
  15. Cripes this thing is big---which is just right for a V8!!!! At least the turbo is new and was relatively cheap. It may need modification and will need a wastegate & blow off valve, but I think it will do just fine (me in my ignorance saying that). The Sanderson shorties that I bought from zfan (Mike) will be mounted upside down with 90 degree elbows going back to the turbo. This puppy will sit most likely in the area where the battery is, but I'll have to work out logistics with my buddy, Lone. FYI, the turbo unit inlet measures 3.5" and the exhaust outlet measures a little over 4.0"---the whole shebang is 13" end to end. Arg, a 4" downpipe is not what I'm looking for---hopfully this will not mean a 4" exhaust system. I'm wondering if I can get away with my 3" mandrel bent system???? Still, this unit is too much for the present motor I have. I have to build up a 355 with a forged bottom end and aluminum parts to make up for the weight added by the turbo ('tis a bit heavy). Anyway, with EFI, this should be plenty for a lil' ol' V8. Thanks to buddy Alex for posting the pics! Davy
  16. The MOMO "Race" is the BOMB! I lust after that one. One of them has synthetic suede at the top (keeps your hands dry) and that appeals to me. Davy
  17. I would buy the TPI/TBI swap manual from JTR. That has some good info in it for that kind of swap. You want to get everything from the donor car to make it all work. Davy
  18. How you interpret vision description: Mike has 20/15 vision; this means he sees the same thing at 20 feet what the 'normal' person can only see at 15 feet. Make sense? Mike, glad to hear it went really well! Davy
  19. Don't let the thought get you down, James. Life get's in the way sometimes, but that's not always a bad thing You just have to prioritize what you want. The majority of your swap does have an ending (although the 'tinkering' is continual) and you need to budget time to get it done. Since you work quite a few hours, you have budgeted some good downtime, but that time can be channeled into the Z car for a while. That's right, I'm talking about cutting back on the girlfriend time NEVER GIVE UP POOL! lol Davy
  20. I have that issue and did read that, while rolling my eyes. I almost replied, but decided it wouldn't be worth the time; besides, you beat me to it! In defense of David Freiburger, I have to say that he is about the best editor that magazine ever had. He is also a great writer too. After reading his articles for years, I think he is a fairly open minded guy, although he is biased to American iron for obvious reasons. Was his reply polite? I bet it was. BTW, even though I subscribe to Car Craft, I have to say that it is Hot Rod that has carried articles of offbeat car like Hybrids and such, not Car Craft. Jim Biondo's car comes to mind. Davy
  21. Yesssssss, you do know someone with a BIG turbo that would do nicely! I wonder if it is too big for 455? 502, here I come! Davy
  22. You'd probably have to contact him via email or phone call to see what he has. www.modern-motorsports.com Davy
  23. I think Jay Leno owns one of them. Be nice to down I-5 at 200 mph. You'd make it to Disneyland in short order. Davy
