  1. That bites. I swear more of the good stuff (working stuff) leaves our hands each day. Crapola--nice ring to it; descriptive. Davy
  2. Wow, that looks great sitting in there! Nice install. Davy
  3. There should be a bolt you can untighten that slides the alternator enough to loosen the fan belt enough you can then take off the pulleys, and then should slip right over the fan from that point. Davy
  4. Using the search function on this forum, you'll get a ton of info about the comparo between John's cars, MSA, "Scarab", and JTR. The JTR kit and John's Cars kit are not even close to being the same. I will argue 'till my head turns blue that JTR is the 'superior' kit by far. If you don't like the low price of the JTR kit or the 'do-it-yourself' plans in the JTR book, the MSA kit is a decent alternative IMO. My main gripe about the John's Cars kit is that it does not place the engine as far back as the JTR kit. That majority of the guys in the forum use JTR or Scarab-style kits. Do a search and you will find the JTR kit appears to be the favorite. Many of the guys that have Scarab conversions are very happy with their cars and I don't berate them for having them. I would be hard pressed to ever change over a decently converted Scarab-style car, but IF I was starting from scratch, the JTR kit is the way to go. Why? Well, it is hard to argue with the engine placement (further back) and better weight distribution (closer to 50/50) of the JTR conversion. Plus, JTR makes a decent book about the install. HTH. Davy
  5. Hey, it's your teeth, Bud!! Davy
  6. Long (dankinzle) used them on his car and he said they were a bit heavy if I remember. Nothing else negative I recall. Davy
  7. Use a squeegie (sp?) to get the black plastic trash bags to adhere once you spray the windows with ammonia. Keep the doors closed and leave the car in the hot sun for a while. They should come off after a while. Davy
  8. Personally, it shouldn't bother you what these guys do to their cars since you don't run in those circles--does it really warrant putting a leaflet on their car telling them it sucks? I suppose it is more sane than defacing their car, but remember this: it is still someone's personal impression of what looks cool. If you offend them, you are looking for trouble. You are going out of your way to do something very unnecessary, and you should think twice before doing it. Plus, if you end up in front of judge, you will have to answer the question of why YOU started something... Think about it; it's not funny or clever. Davy
  9. BTW, if you want really good "how to" videos, those "Paintucation" ones are very good. I bought the "Color buffing and sanding" video and it was extremely helpful. They are packed with good information and I highly recommend them. Davy
  10. Yep, thanks to Dan for hosting the No Cal HybridZ BBQ. It was a lot of fun and the bench racing was out of this world! Great meeting Heavy Z (Brett) and seeing Lone, Z-Dreamer (Mark), Eric, Rick, Aux, Ernie, and that's all I can remember... We has a fun time and the guys are really great to talk to regarding swaps--a ton of knowledge there. Conversation went from motorcycles, to boats, to engines, to whatever! Too bad Ron & Jon & Nic missed the BBQ! Davy
  11. There is something wrong with that. If you have a completely stock 350 Chevy from the mid to late smog laden 1970s, then the HP is spot on. That's exactly how much HP you have. What is strange is that the torque should be enough to push you higher than that. Is your car really traction limited? What is the tranny? If you have a nominal 8:1 compression motor (or worse), then a swap to some better heads with a smaller combustion chamber like 64cc, 70cc, or even 72cc will be a lot better than the 76cc smog heads you are probably running right now. That alone will boost your compression to a decent 9:1 to 10:1. Stab in a decent cam with aluminum intake and 600cfm carb, you are ready to rock! If I have guessed wrong on your motor, let us know. If you already have all these things in your engine, then you have tuning issues, or something. Talk to me. Davy
  12. Len, you had better amend what you just said--that was a pic of one of our members with the air-compressor... You'll be getting an email from me shortly. Davy
  13. In this case: Yellow = FAST Davy
  14. Mike, nice project you have going on. Nice garage too!! Davy
  15. Oh goodie, this is the same cam that I installed in the V8 to get decent streetability and good power on a mild SBC. Thanks for the info Greimann. Lone you mentioned the "Dynobutt." Is that a rather large mechanical device or what??? Sorry, could not resist... Davy
  16. I have seen much worse and still running! Just how bad is the damage? Does it include the entire underside of the pan, or just a part of it? Hopefully this was a stock pan and is cheap to replace or bang into submission. Davy
  17. DavyZ

    round two

    What were the results? Davy
  18. Good luck with your new plans. Glad to hear things have worked out better than they might have otherwise been. Davy
  19. Bwaahahahahaaa! Too funny! He said, "exhaust pipes" hahahaha! Davy
  20. Sorry I got in so late on this thread, Pete (computer virus), so I must say: YOUR CAR ROCKS!!! It really looks better than I imagined it would. You should be proud---because the HybridZ bretheren sure are! Now all you need is to get the photos under the "featured rides" for all the newbies to see!! Davy
  21. Havok, these look pretty wide to me! Man, if the ones you saw were bigger, I want to see them too!!!! Davy
  22. Yes, be very careful indeed! Buy a mild GM V8 and then a T5 or 700R4 tranny. That would give you more power than you will know what to do with, and when you get used to the power, then you can use it as a good engine to build upon. That's my $.02. Davy
  23. Ditto--it won't just let us in to see the pic, bummer. Davy
