  1. Good score, Sean!!!!! Don't laugh, we actually did dance the 'cabbage patch' back in the 80's Davy
  2. You are the Man! As usual nothing but the best custom bodywork. Looking sweeeet with those new signal lights and the headlights Will you be shooting the car the same color as last time or will you do something different this time around?? I remember an old thread where you were tossing it around. Davy
  3. I can't say that I have heard of such a swap since I have been a member here, but I have heard of the swap being done on Datsun 510's. The Z is a lot like a 510, and i'm not sure it would be that difficult to do. For some really good pictures of rotary 510 conversions, visit here: http://www.bryanf.com/mycars/yf/index.htm You can use this info and apply it to the Z. Good luck! Davy
  4. I agree with you, Lone. The 377 is supposed to be a high winding motor, and as such I would also advise looking for heads that can flow more on the top end. Anyone else?? Davy
  5. Aravahan, nice tattoo! Bang847, nice Z! I would take a 240Z with an AT, but it wouldn't stay that way for long. Of course, it would not be a commuter car either. Davy
  6. Do a search for Scottie's website and find out what he's using. Duplicate that! Actually, the 225 lb setup would sweet for fast running on the road. Maybe it's not the ticket for drag racing though. JTR says the stock springs are pretty good for drag racing. Davy
  7. Welcome to the forum! The best way to get help is to first use the 'search' function in the forum. This will help you get the information you need regarding the swap. Also, I'm pretty sure that MSA sells the parts for the swap, if you don't want to fabricate your own. Good luck! Davy
  8. quote: Originally posted by Super280z: ...my opinon and fact, 305 heads dont flow worth of crap. you'd get a higher comp ratio but what good does it do? if heads dont flow you make slackin power... The 305 heads shine when you have an extremely limited budget and no real way of cheaply bumping compression. I would choose the 58cc 305 heads over the 76cc smog heads I have now on my Camaro motor, all things being equal. The higher compression would actually help to bump horsepower over what I have now. Obviously, Vortec heads or double hump heads would be better, but if the 305 heads are practically free (which they are at some wrecking yards) and the only alternative is the stock smog 76cc heads, well, the 305s start to look pretty good. Davy
  9. Pretty darn fast, that's for sure! Davy
  10. http://www.midstatepaint.com/ http://www.expressglasspaint.com/ http://www.autobodysupply.net/ These are just a sample I got from doing a search using MSN. HTH Davy
  11. Ouch, that hurts! lol I was waiting for Fast Frog to jump in with a comment, but you beat him to it, Larry!! haha Seriously, any single person with over 10000 posts has to be posting continually like it was a job or something (getting paid by the post) Davy
  12. I have to agree with you. I like the R230 in my Q45 so much, I'll LOVE it in a Z car. Shoot, it barely slips in the 4000+lb Q, so I think that a light Z will be no problem for the robust diff, plus it will be spinning a whole lot faster in my Z Just my $.02. Davy
  13. http://gearzone.net/ They have rebuild kits, videos, and even some cool upgrades for the WC T5. Take your time and you'll find what you need. Davy
  14. I had to look it up in the dictionary...
  15. Phil, that is the first tail-light treatment I really like! Great job on the rails, tail section, and the gas filler door!!! Sweet Z! Kudos to some great work!! Davy
  16. I think this is the place. If you don't see what you want, make sure you contact them first! http://www.kennedyeng.com/ Davy
  17. Randy, About a year ago, you had a bunch of throttle bodies for sale (cheap) because they were the result of a warranty thing or recall campaign. can you get any more of those babies or is it totally finished??? Davy
  18. Good points, Sopdadope. What you are saying in essence is that any sound deadening should be done in the body & interior, not the engine itself. I agree 100%. Thanks for the info. BTW, my '90 Q45 is very quiet now; I'm not sure I'd want it any quieter!! Davy
  19. quote: Originally posted by Omar aka Hydra: I know this sounds crazy, but what about something on the underside of the valve and timing covers? I would suspect damping the insides of the valve covers would go quite a way to quiet the racket in there, especially if you're running solid lifters. I'm hoping you guys will take some time to address this issue, so hopefully we can organize it and include it in the FAQ, as I'm sure this would be beneficial to a lot of people, however this topic is buried deep inside the archives, and I'm hoping we could make this information accessible to all. Thank you Sound deadending material in the valve covers?!? Umm, don't go there. As for taking the past information and making it a FAQ, you are welcome to do so since a number of us are working on other topics. Do the FAQ topic on Word, and then copy and paste to email, then send to Jeromio. The reason why this topic is buried in the archives is because it is not asked about very frequently. In my mind the archives are like a library and are available to anyone anytime. Not trying to dump on you, just my $.02 Davy
  20. Most auto parts places like Summit and Nothern Auto Parts sell tools for taking off springs with the heads & everything still on the car. The main problem you will face is keeping the valve up in the head while you change out the spring. Remember that when you take pressure off of the spring and take out the keeper, etc, the valuve will just want to drop into the head because nothing will be holding it up at that point. I think the easiest way to keep it "afloat" iswith compressed air blown into the cylinder thru the spark plug hole. If you don't have the fitting to do this, get it from the above mentioned places; they should carry it. Good luck. Davy
  21. Phil, the work keeps progressing, and I keep getting impressed! Nice work on that baby--it will be magazine material for sure! Clean look to the rear end, but where will the license plate go? Same place? I would almost be ashame to put one there once the rear is smoothed... Davy
  22. I am planning the same thing for my Z car (future plan WHEN I get the right car). I have not actually done it, but Terry's description makes it look relatively "easy." There is a picture on Eric Neyelin's site that has the "Black Temptress" or something like that, where the whole car has been smoothed. If he still has pictures up, it's worth looking at. Look carefully for all the details, though, because it was so well done, you may miss them. Davy
  23. Al, What are the road like in your section of the country?? That would be my first question. Next, what kind of tire and rim combo are you running (what size of tire & wheel)?? Is you exhaust modified or is it stock? How far away from the ground is it now? Is the exhaust the closest thing to the ground on your car (excluding air dams)? Are you running stiffer springs or the stock softies? How was your Thanksgiving? Do I ask too many questions? Need more info before I can lend you some answers Davy
  24. That's really your choice. The manual swap seems to be more difficult in the sense that you have to run a T56 if you are putting some real power to the ground--and they are a tight fit in the early Z cars. The WC T5 is a good choice if you are not running a whopping amount of power--like 300 hp or less...otherwise you may run in to reliability issues if you drag race it. The auto trannys seem to take power better than the T5, and they also are cheaper than a T56. Your choice. Davy
