Thanks John I found that part. So does it have to be welded on to the turbo? Not bolted on I purchased the MSA Turbo Downpipe, will I not be able to still use that?
-
Thanks very much folks, I am very grateful for the info. Pops - thanks for finding that thread, even with a search i never found it. What exactly is going on in that picture? I can see a pipe welded into the top of that pot, i guess that would be the fuel return, but where is the fuel supply? I would have thought that would have been coming in from the top, to the very bottom of the tank. And is that pipe flowing into the other side of the wall necessary? I guess its an overflow pipe from the pot? But why is it necessary to do that and not just let it flow over the pot?

Mike - Thanks for the idea, something to look into. I heard that the foam deteriorates with time, I must look into how long its life is. Pop N Wood -My car indeed will be fuel injected and turbo charged. I like the idea of a circular fuel pot with the return and pick up inside it. These guys are trying to do their best, they are a rad/fuel repair shop, but sadly no experience with making fuel baffles/bowls. I will see if i can find that pic on the 280ZX tank you mention, in the meantime if anyone has any ideas of how the circular fuel pot should be designed that would be great! Thanks folks.

I checked the archives out on this and saw the pics of the in-tank pump and the sumps, I want to go for a different route though. Mainly because i have already purchased an expensive external tank already and I dont like the idea of the sump. I have already asked them to enlarge the pickup to 15mm and the inlet to 10mm. What do you guys think of a circular pot around the pickup? Or another Square tray around it.

I gave my tank to a radiator shop to build me a wall or baffle around the pickup and they've cut my tank open and called me to tell me that there is already one in there! Here are the pics.. Pic1 Pic2 Pic3 I new there was some kind of baffle in a 240 tank but not such a large one. Can anyone give me some advice to pass on to them as they dont know what else they can do really... I am thinking that these baffles cant be good enough as this is why everyone has been saying to fit a surge tank or modify the tank. Please help as the tank is with them and they are waiting for further instructions. I am feeling like a complete Noob now.

Hi guys, I have a stock internal wastegated T3 turbo, is it possible to remove the wastegate so I can use this turbo with an external wastegate? How would I go about it and what is involved. Anyone else done this? I did a search on external & internal wastegates but didnt find any info. Thanks.

Guys, I am running EFI with turbo L28 in my 240Z. I have purchased a nice BOSCH external fuel pump and a SARD FPR and it's dawned on me that the stock system used a fuel damper as well as a FPR. Will i need to run a Fuel Damper? My external pump is mounted just opposite the tank. Thanks folks.

I have run a new 3/8" copper/nickel hard supply line and I am using the old 5/16" Supply as my new return. Thanks for the confirmation KTM. Fueling has never been something that i pondered about greatly, learning loads from you guys.

Hi all, I have a 240Z and i have a turbo engine fitted. Currently having my tank adapted to an efi tank. I have told the shop to make the inlet pipe (fuel return) on the tank an 8mm and the outlet 15mm. Do you think the size i have specified for the return is too small? I am aiming for around 300hp. Any ideas of how much hp, that will be good for? Thanks.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate the input. I like the idea of mounting the pump on its side, I didn't even know if it were possible. Benefits of that to me are pretty obvious as it will be lower, which is a good thing. Especially if my L shaped bracket is on the reverse side of the ledge that its sitting on in the top pic above. I will also have to drill that horizontal bar and fit a bracket for my Filter. hopefully it should all work out.
-
Thanks for your input, I never really thought about the "head" and how it effects the pumps performance. As for why i didn't ask the shop to mount the same size fittings on the tank, my reason was that my return hard line is 5/16" and I was thinking, that it would be easier to use the same size pipe for the return on the tank as I would only need to use the same ID rubber fuel hose (to connect the two up) without having to use an expander/reducer.

Thank you for directing me to that thread, it certainly was an interesting read. I will bracket the pump as low as possible and try and get a filter in between and hopefully will be OK... (fingers crossed!!) I have run a new copper/nickel hard line supply of 3/8" (10mm) and have a 5/16" (8mm) return. I have also asked the shop to make the fittings on the tank bigger, Return is 5/16" now and the outlet will be 12mm. I have another quick question. Below is a picture of the same pump i will be using: I am thinking that i need to mount it upside down from how the picture is, as i believe the fitting with the black plastic cap is the outlet and that should be orientated to the bottom when i fit it. But there is no lip to help it from staying in position, the lip is on the other side. (Does that make any sense?) Should this pump therefore be better mounted on its side? Thanks.

Hi guys, Need some help please. I have just purchased a new BOSCH fuel pump and I am having my 240Z tank fitted with baffles and a surge tray, also having a bigger return and supply fitted. The picture below shows how my original pump was fitted: I am considering fitting my new Bosch pump in the same position with the fuel coming in from the top and out of the bottom. I heard that the BOSCH pump doesnt like to suck so i am worried that it may not be mounted low enough in the position above. What do you guys think, will i be ok? I also need to mount a fuel filter in between the tank and the pump. Thanks.

Would be good to hear how it performs. Would this set up be any good for turbo applications or is it more for NAs?

Hi there, I have just fitted my 240Z halfshafts to an R200 that I picked up and i noticed that when i pull the halfshafts in and out there is actual movement inside the diff, I can see the diff's flanges move a couple of mm's in and out. Should there be any movement at all? I'm just curious about this as I will probably just fit it and see but wanted to run it past you guys in case you had any thoughts or advice. Thanks

Sounds like a safer way to do it. Good Luck and let us know how it works out! Pictures of how they mounted the baffles would be awesome!

KTM I just purchased this tank, it is compact enough to fit on the longitudinal arm, he regularly makes them. I can post how good it is when it arrives. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=017&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=270098552260&rd=1&rd=1

Some people say that the EFI should be under the surge tank so that gravity feeds it and it doesnt have to suck. But I dont think it should make much difference here, its not a great distance and the main thing air isnt in the fuel at this stage. What are all the parts bolted onto Dave, looks like a neat and compact install, nice use of good quality hoses too. I have the rear control arms off the car and the 2 end Longitudinal brackets (at the rear of the diff) are off too. Plan is to bolt the surge tank on one of the longitudinal brackets closest to the lines, then have the efi and lifter pump located on the bar that runs across. I think the job of attaching everything is way easier when you have those parts off the car. What I have yet to work out though, is how to wire the two pumps up , how have most of you guys done it? Have you used relays at the back there?
-
Hi, I have seen it mounted both in the engine bay, oil filter side of bay, (not hot exhaust side). The other place I have seen it mounted which I prefer, is at the rear, just behind the diff., See pic below of my fuel pump, thats where they normally mount them, using that that long bracket and the two taller ones. www.xiotis.com/pump.JPG You can have the lift pump there and the surge tank above and the high pressure EFI pump running on its side. If need be a simple heat shield can be made if you think that the exhaust is too close. I have actually seen a picture of my local club members car, and thats where he has his.. I have seen some people mount the surge tank in the trunk, but for safety reasons, I don't like having fuel in the car.

Looks very nice. Once you have a plan on what TB you will be offering, 60 -65mm would be cool ( I think bigger may be a bitch to drive?) it would be cool for the end user if they came with all the throttle linkages already done.

Clifton, that's what I realised must have been the case after seeing the way you did yours, I really like it. Instead of paying big bucks for this kit, I may get the shop to install me an anti slosh tray like they have done and then as long as the pickup and the return is within the tray it should work. I can then use my new external pump also. here is close up of the tray: Thanks to all about your comments on surge tanks and fuel sumps, they are a nice option but prefer Cliftons route or the cheaper alternative of just getting an anti slosh tray like the one above put in there with the pick up and return feeds directed into the tray.

Fentin - that was an option i was looking at but prefer this as a neater install. CLifton - that's great work, sadly well past my abilities, I can't even weld. Does anyone know if baffles will be enough or would I need an in tank pump also?? I found a kit on the net that may be worth considering, let me know what you guys think. http://www.thedetailzone.com/Tanks%20Fuel%20Pump%20Install.htm http://www.tanksinc.com/index.cfm/page/ptype=product/product_id=84/category_id=61/home_id=61/mode=prod/prd84.htm

Well I have to declare all modifications, and he wont like a fuel sump from a safety point of view. It would mean a higher premium.
-
So did I when my 240 had EFI, but now its turbocharged and will be developing a lot more HP, the engine will be punished more when the pump experiences fuel starvation.

Thanks for your input Jeff, I don't suppose you have any pictures handy showing what you did exactly?
