  1. This is the right place to ask a question like you asked. Don't be afraid... The rpm air gap and an Edelbrock 600cfm is about as basic and fool-proof as you can get IMO.
  2. I agree. A 305 is a good engine to beat up on and learn from. Oil pressure gauge is NOT an option! I like the Nissan guage because as soon as you lose pressure the light comes on immediately before the needle has time to move all the way down. Live and learn, then ditch the boat anchor .
  3. Haha, they are guite the underdogs.... I like how they're going about things but once you prove or disprove everything you want to (350 running 8's, R200 running 9's with halfshafts) it's time to go all out. No hurry though.
  4. Hmm, I've thought about the belt thing and don't really care for it but budget might demand it. The thing is I just like to tinker and if I can make something that you can ride around for nothing but time it's well worth it to me.
  5. I have a pretty well rusted 280ZX that hasn't twisted but I'm not running sticky tires. 280ZX's aren't nearly as flimsy as 240z's and I would think will handle a mild 350 even in pretty bad shape with pretty sticky tires. But I like to push stuff people don't think will last so maybe that's just me. www.jagsthatrun.com They have kits for traditional sbc's in 280ZX cars, they work very well but IMO are pretty pricey. If I had to do it again I would have definitely made my own mounts.
  6. or something like that, maybe a little three wheeler or if I can balance it a 2 wheeler. I'm stuck however on the gearing. I'm basically starting from scratch but I have two different lawn mower engines that of course have the crank vertical (turns horizontally) and that's where my train of thought is stuck. What can I use to get the thing to spin a chain (or maybe even a belt but I'd rather not) to spin vertically. I have seen a 90* drive for a drill with a chuck on one end and a part that would normally go in a chuck on the other end. I would ASSume that the gear would be fairly strong but I don't know about putting it behind (or under) say a 5hp engine. A 90* device of some sort would be ideal I would think. Anybody have any better ideas? My first thought was of course to simply turn the engine sideways but I'm pretty sure the needle and seat on both of them wouldn't work right, not to mention the tank leaking all over tha place.
  7. Why not build a 412 or your 406 with the supercarger. Do you not have strong enough internals?
  8. Skelton Mirrors!!!! Ahahahahhhaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh
  9. How do you get the stuff off if you wanted to remove an emblem?

Haha, no I bet he did that on purpose....
  11. Yeah, I've know that at wide open there isn't any vacuum but it still bothered me. I have had the cam at 8 degrees before and couldn't really tell the difference. I haven't been able to tell much difference in performance by changing anything because seat of the pants just tells me that it's pretty fast. I have noticed changes in traction because I'm on the verge of never having any so when I do something right I get loose a little sooner. Which probably slows me down... haha.
  12. Well that's what I've always thought and done but 50 something degrees total makes me kind of squeamish.
  13. I'm running flat top forged pistons with 64cc Dart Iron Eagle Heads. I have it set to 12 (I think) degrees initial and 36 full (I'm sure) without vacuum. With vacuum total is something rediculous like 50 degrees but I've never heard it ping. I've never had it above 36 degrees without vacuum. What would be a good setting for it? 32* at like 8* initial. Should I leave the vacuum off?
  14. I have an all iron 383 with 10:1 compression. My cam is an slp 51010 with 280* duration (@ 0.050" 224/230) and .502/.510 lift. Any thoughts?
  15. yeah, hopefully my mid-life crisis will lead me to buy a C12 or whatever Corvette is out then with oh say 1000hp stock.
  16. I'm always getting flamed by everyone I know for picking up stuff I see lying by the dumpster. If I'm throwing some trash out I'll look around a little first but it's not like I'm going dumpster to dumpster or dumpster diving. My wife, her friends, my friends, everybody says something about it. I've found some pretty cool stuff. Atleast I think so. Am I just a loser or what?
  17. Well, I'm going to throw this out there just FYI. On computer controlled ignition such as on the 305 you can connect two of the wires and bypass the computer, that is on the 4 (maybe 3) wires coming from the distributor you can connect two of the wires but I can't remember which one. Then you have a normal HEI which I would think is what you want. On my '85 Silverado the other two wires were connected than what I was told should have been but it worked. If the distributor that you have isn't an HEI with a vacuum advance then what I just said is totally irrelevant . If you are interested I will have to try and find my old distributor and see which wires were spliced. Could save you $100 or so.
  18. I'd hate to be around if the thing throws a rod.
  19. I know EXCACTLY what you're talking about. I just can't remember where I put them. Seems like I remember putting them in the two notches that are at the bottom but it's been a while. I just had to fiddle with mine a bit.
  20. I like "Old Rice". What rearend are you running?
  21. If you can't get some gears close enough (maybe even from Jeg's or Summit) you should talk to a speedometer specialist. With my truck I installed 373 gears and the chevy dealership told me that they didn't have the right gear for it so they referred me to this guy that made the thing in about 5 minutes and charged me $60. However, now that I think about it, there's no way the adapter will fit in the tunnel but maybe there are different styles of adapters. If you do find some gears from the dealership please keep us updated because I'm sure there are more than a few guys that wound't mind knowing that information, myself included. I just had to figure out that 55 is 35, 90 is 60 and so on. My car isn't worth jack really so mileage racking up doesn't bother me any.
  22. How much for fuel rail with injectors wiring harness and computer?
  23. Su...Su...STINGRAY?!?! Me and my wife are going to die if they come out with a new stingray. Wait a minute. Maybe we should buy an old one before they become even more desireable.
  24. Theres a guy at our Advance I like to go to. I brought in my intake gasket which they didn't even sell. But he looked at it and said, "You running Dart heads?" I had to pull my bottom jaw up because I've always had bad experience with parts guys.
