  1. Hey guys. I'm a whore for data/info. I was wondering if those of us who have put their cars on dynos could share the results. I'm curious to see what kinds of mods give what kind of power, and what kind torque curves, how soon power comes, etc.... HOWEVER, to make certain this thread is not simple dyno sheet porn/bragging (which is not a problem here, porn and brag all you want. that's PART of the fun), I'd like to put some rule that will actually make the thread useful and easier to read.... 1. L28e blocks only. i'm curious about other engines but the second people post l24, or rb engines, the whole thread will loose focus. OVERSIZED L28 welcomed (strokers and bored engines, for e.g.). 2. Each posted sheet must be accompanied by the following info, in the following format (make certain you kindof get it right, but let's not go overboard about the form here): 1- car: year, model. 2- State of the engine: stock, stock rebuilt, slight mods, heavy mods, total-batshit-crazy-overboard-modded... 3- peak power @ RPM + boost level (PSI) if applicable 4- peak torque @ RPM + boost level (PSI) if applicable 5- short list of relevant mods if applicable, INCLUDING: fuel/ignition management, high compression pistons, turbo size/type, piston oversize and whatever else you did that could make a difference. for parts that are standards and don't really contribute like intercoolers and oil pumps and what not, no need for details. For other mods, like a crazy-fucked-up-pink-shifter-with-part-of-christian-relic-inbeded, well, if it doesn't add hp, don't list it. 6- anything else you feel might HELP OR HINDER your hp figures, like for my car, it's got a megasquirt with a tune that my 5 year old probably could improve, so yeah, that does not help. IF your engine is stock, please write the mileage here! it'd be fun to see how much mileage has eaten how many hp. 7- anything else that's interesting about your engine that can have an impact on the topic. *post dyno sheet* if you actually have a paper sheet, just take a photo with your cell phone or something, and post it. just make certain it's clear. if you don't have a sheet, just the numbers, well that's not as cool, but still interesting. post it! Comment posts ARE welcomed. I mean, i'm doing this so we can look at the dyno results and then talk about them... just make certain you don't post a sheet and a comment in the same post, i guess, to keep things clean. don't be afraid to post a sheet, then comment on whatever else in another, immediate post (like, two in a row). oh yeah! all dynos are different, there are different types, and some have to be corrected for altitude and all that. yeah, yeah, sure... that's 100% right. but I'm not doing this to compare who'd got the biggest dic... ah, HP numbers! this is only to get ballpark ideas of what mods give what kind of power. All right guys. go for it! Seb. PS: if you have a pre- mod sheet and a post- mod DYNO result sheet, you AUTOMATICALLY become king of the thread. there may be more than one king. deal with it.
  2. Hello guys, I am having a headache trying to find out all the correct information about my engine. There are other people trying to fin out by using the casting numbers by the back of the engine but looks like the number has a printing error, I know it’s a 350 5,7, but I would like to know exactly what I have. does anyone has a good idea of how can I get all the information about my engine? Year? What vehicle was originally from? Hp, etc I need parts and the auto parts always give me issues as they need the year or model of my vehicle. I can’t tell them athat I have a Datsun 1975 with a sbc lol, Any help will be appreciated. I am opening another discussion to explain the issues. Thanks for your support, we can do “diy“ because we help each other. In a Chevy forum they replied telling that this is the engine information, How do I know to what vehicle it came from, or at list a vehicle for me to use when ordering parts
  3. Went to the Dyno today expecting to do 5 pulls and get a horsepower number. I am planning a significant amount of upgrades soon so I wanted a baseline. This place lets you run the car yourself on the dyno. I had never done something like this before, so my first run I stopped at 5500 RPM. The second run I went all the way to 6200 RPM. Better numbers, but we thought there was an air leak. Upon closer inspection, we saw coolant going everywhere! Apparently a weird old T-fitting on coolant lines had failed. It killed my dyno session. Luckily, the shop let me replace the T-fitting there myself using their equipment and I was able to head home. But not without this interesting dyno chart! This is a 99% stock L28ET. Swapped by previous owner around 2004. The only thing not stock is that the air intake is moved in front of the radiator and there is an oil cooler. Dyno Chart Peak Power: 148.86 hp at ~5700 RPM - MEGA POWER!!! Peak Torque: 161.37 ft/lbs at ~4400 RPM EDIT: Done with 1978 280z 5-speed transmission and rear diff in 3rd gear. I'm gonna be honest - I thought there was more power under there lol. But I'm not complaining! It certainly feels like it with how light this car is. But what the heck is with everything taking a dump @5k? Action Shots: Coolant Pouring!! The busted T-fitting - wtf is this thing? Fresh T-fitting Installed! My buddy who was nice enough to come by and help!
  4. Hey guys, I just got my car back from the dyno and I was a bit underwhelmed with the results - 156hp and 161ft/lb at the wheels (curves with AFR attached). The long block was assembled by a pretty reputable builder with the following specs: Bored out L28 to 2.95L F54 block with a N47 head 11.3:1 CR 290° cam with 0.490" lift Then I came along and messed something up with the following: MSA 6-1 header into 2.5" exhaust MSD 6AL-2 programmable ignition box triggered by a 280zx dizzy Cannon intake manifold Weber DCOE40s 36mm chokes 160 main 160 air correction F2 emulsion tube 3.5 A/V 55F9 idle The timing curve was initially dialed in by the tuner to eliminate knock with the 94 octane that I delivered the car with. The dizzy is locked out at 35°BTDC and the timing map they arrived at is attached. After the 1st round of results, I asked them to run some higher octane to get in all the timing that I thought was left on the table to control the knock. With 108 octane the car didn't pick up any power from advancing the curve that was developed with the 94. I found that a bit odd, but not sure how you argue with the data. The dyno was an eddy brake Land and Sea Dynomite axle hub set up. Let me know what your thought are on where I could look next, or if you think something is really bottlenecking the output. From all the searching I've done, it seems like all the hardware should support 200+whp, but we're not even close. Thanks! L28 dyno.pdf

  8. So this past weekend we had a dyno day here in NW Arkansas so I had a chance to get my Z on the dyno and do a little tuning. My setup consists of a 98 LS1/T56 with 799 milled .035 for around 11.5:1 compression. My own custom built longtube headers. Stock LS1 intake, stock cam. Tune that could still use a bit of polishing up, but its decent. Anyways on to the results/pics/videos. Dyno'd saturday morning on a Dynojet. For comparison a 98 Camaro with nothing but headers and a slight tune put down 330/341 torque. Anyways my final results after 4 pulls and a couple tune tweaks were 348rwhp@~5500rpm and 370rwtq@~4500rpm. Tune could still use some tweaking, tried to do some more logging at the track, my launch/1-2 shift were shorting something out or causing my buddies laptop to stop logging, so I was only able to get one log when I just rolled up to 3rd and 4th gear. And on to the track results. My best time of the day ended up being and the video is of that pass: 60ft: 2.0217 330ft: 5.3256 1/8 ET: 7.9681 1/8 MPH: 93.91 1000 ET: 10.2482 1000 MPH: 108.04 1/4 ET: 12.1520 1/4 MPH: 118.33 That poor fox body never stood a chance lol. This is the second time I've gone to the track on the same axles, normally I break them on a daily basis, but the one thats in there now must be made of unubtanium or something! I was shifting hard the last few passes as well, almost WOT shifting 3rd and 4th, launching pretty decent, and was getting lots of wheel hop, and it kept on going. If my local track back home was a 1/4 mile instead of 1000ft I know it would do 11s without changing a thing, I pulled a 10.06 in the 1000ft at my local track, and my MPH is up 2+ from that 10.06 pass. -Will
