15/16 Master Cylinder Rebuild kit

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know if the 83 280zx MC is the same bore ? I ordered that kit from Carpartsdiscount.com for $29.73 shipped so we'll see, I should have it by Friday ! If it does fit with no issue's, I have an extra already cleaned 15/16 MC housing with resviors & caps that I'll sell for $25 if anyone is interested !

So the "wrong" 15/16" masters have mounting bolts lined up horizonatally? Is that the problem? Maybe there is a way to adapt them, adapt the booster, or make and adapter plate and an extended the push rod... I never thought about it much but it seems like it's time to start thinking. How about going with a Wilwood master, considering it an upgrade?

Its cool because I have 2 MC, one only had 1 piston with decent rubbers, the other had both pistons but one of the rubbers was kinda tweaked. So it just so happen its the same as the 1st one. So I'm good for now ! I would like to try again to see if I can use the kit from an 82-83 ZX or a 720 truck just from a different company, maybe rockauto or summit !

Here are Rock Auto options that MIGHT work? These are for the 1984 720 truck 2.4L 2389cc L4 2BBL. !! NOT SURE IF THEY WORK ON ZX MASTERS !! They look similar. Please confirm if they work for you.

DORMAN Part # TM351674 {#46011C7025}

RAYBESTOS Part # MK1674

So I went to Rock Auto and I ordered DORMAN Part # TM351674 {#46011C7025}. It just cam in today so here are the pics !

As you see the the new one is slightly longer(about an 1/8") on this one.

And on this one the original is slightly longer(about an 1/8").

So I think we have a winner ! The overall size is the same and the piston diameter is the same(no I didn't put a micrometer on it).

This kit cost me $24.97 shipped and comes with this:

I just need a diagram of where everything goes cause mine didn't have everything that this kit gave me.

Definitely give it a shot. !!careful!! with the test drive though. Keep us in the loop.

Yeah I'll keep you all in the loop. I need to put it all together and get my booster back on the firewall and finish my rear brake conversion.

The little bag of replacement parts does not fit the MC. The nozzle parts are too big and the C-Clip does not fit either(too small). I kept those parts from my old one so I should be alright !

Any word on these pistons working? I am about ready to swap over to the later model 280zx master and booster. So far all my attempts at a 79-81 master are coming up empty.

The piston itself is in and seems to fit and work just as stock, but the hardware that comes with it does not fit(C-clip, springs,nozzles,O-rings). I just reused my old.

  • 2 weeks later...

My 79 280ZX MC finally started leaking.

After a week of searching, I was able to buy a new 79 280ZX MC from Autoparts world: http://www.autopartsworld.com/results/?PN=5554&VN=4294967250+4294967085+4294965736&N=0&Nr=AND(universal:0)<A class=bbc_url title="External link" href="http://www.autopartsworld.com/results/?PN=5554&VN=4294967250+4294967085+4294965736&N=0&Nr=AND(universal:0" rel="nofollow external">

My old Nissan factory 280ZX MC will be used as a spare, so I am having it rebuilt through Rock Auto Cardone Remove and Rebuild program. About $40.

Now I need to find a source for the booster.......
