RoCa
1976 S30 with 1983 280zx engine. Everything is mounted but stumbled on wiring issue. Here's what is done so far: -Connected power to the ECU by running power direct from battery with an o-ring. -Bypassed fuel pump relay and have turn key power to the fuel pump. -Coil is hot, have good spark. Problem is that the fuel injectors are not firing. Any help, links, comments is greatly appreciated.
galderdi
The ECU requires a timing source. Check if there is anything connecting the coil to the ECU? I have a wire wrapped around my coil lead connected to the ECU. Good luck.
macambra
download the manual for an 82 s130 from xenons130. Trace out all the connections onthe wiring table. Did you run power to the injectors?-the ecu doesn't power them, it only triggers them. Research,Research,Research.
cgsheen
You're running the ECU powered ON at all times? You bypassed the electric fuel pump safetys?? Your '76 already had an EFI L28 - there should be little difference between it and the L28E in the ZX. Seriously, your Z already had an EFI Relay - use it to power the ECU at IGN ON as it should be. It also has (or had) safetys to shut down the electric fuel pump in the event of an accident - always a good thing to NOT have gasoline pumping out of the tank if a car gets mangled... +1 on getting the FSM(s) and learning all about these engines. I think you may be making this swap more difficult than it needs to be...
280Dan
Yeah sencond that on the EFI relay. I was having a similar problem with my '77 where it'd crank and die and then just crank no start. It was because the injectors weren't firing due to the EFI relay needing replacement. It should be under the drivers side dash on the left I believe. RoCa
Thank you guys for your input. As far as the fuel pump, it is just temporary to run fuel to the engine to get her to run. I will hook everything back as soon as I get her to run. Safety is my first concern. I just downloaded the fsm and will do my research. Also, the car didn't run for a while, could it be possible that the injectors are clogged? I will check if there are power being sent to the injectors. Do you mean the blue wire that goes to to Pin 1 is open-ended (not connected to coil negative as normal) but wrapped around the high voltage lead to the distributor? Gollum
Also, the car didn't run for a while, could it be possible that the injectors are clogged? Unlikely. I've gotten several of these engines running after years of down time. The worst case had two sticking injectors which freed up by the second tank of gas. Still started and drove on 4 cylinders though.

Now, my number one suspect would be that there is a missing link in the circuit. Couldn't test to see if there are power runnng to the injector wires because of the rain today. Hopefully it will stop in the morning and I could have a look.
