tamo3
Thanks Seattlejester, terse, I used PPG products. For Epoxy primer, PPG ESU 470. http://www.nedsautobodysupply.com/PPG_ESU470_Epoxy_Primer.pdf For basecoat, PPG Shopline JBX 3.5 VOC For clear, PPG Shopline JC7200 2.1 VOC HS European Clearcoat. However, it was my first attempt, I did not satisfy result. Waterbase paint is so thin and so easy to get chip off just a little scratch. Painting car is so difficult. I recommend to shop around paint shop in your local area. I will re-paint over the July 4th weekend with Urethan paint. Since I decided to redo painting, I also decided to fix a roof a bit. So hot Summer time!

Which side should I be... I got Hakosuka NOS fender mirror via Yahoo! Japan Auction. Need to paint in black. Assemble mirror. Use hair dryer to soften the plastic black ring to remove mirror. I use Duplicolor Trim Black paint this time. Thanks Alan T., aka HS30-H. for sharing information. I follow his instruction to drill holes. http://forums.hybridz.org/topic/50023-fender-mirror-install/?p=549483 The big hole is up to 11/16" Edited July 4, 2014 by tamo3

Kuro
Enjoyed your updates so far Takashi! Can't wait to see more progress on this z Christine
tamo3
Thanks Christine. I'm fascinating your craftmanship on your Kuro S30! OK, here is some update. I decided to paint again. Since I painted during Fall-Winter, it was kind of failed. Clear coating wasn't good. With wet sanding of 1000G, all the clear coating is gone So, this time, I decided to use Urethane paint from eBay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Winter-White-Gallon-Kit-Low-VOC-URETHANE-BASECOAT-CLEAR-Car-Auto-Paint-Kit/141368670516?_trksid=p2047675.c100011.m1850&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20140602152332%26meid%3D067f6b1902a546dfa8aa4d70979b64cd%26pid%3D100011%26prg%3D20140602152332%26rk%3D6%26rkt%3D10%26sd%3D191205088646 Looks like it similar to TOYOTA Super White 040. Paint arrived and prepared. This time, I created paint booth using $59 HFT canopy. Make sure to have 10 minutes interval between coating. So far, so good with base coat. Clear coating is so stink! After apply 2nd time, I escape to backyard to take a deep breath and I heard some broken sound..... OMG! Paint booth collapse by wind! Painting was failed.... I wasted so much clear coating. But, biggest failure is... the color is not white, It's light blue Lol This paint is good for VW Beatle....
Leon
Oh no, that's some bad luck! At least if you wanted white, you have to repaint anyway...
Perfect240z
Lookin good takashi. Can't wait to see it on the road Have you thought about having a shop paint the car? Shop near me charges around 900 for the cheapest paint job. It's not maaco. Edited August 23, 2014 by Perfect240z
tamo3
Hi Perfect240z, I thought about it. Since I'd like to DIY as much as possible for this project, I will paint by myself. I'm pretty sure, I will ask pro for the next project. I order Toyota Super White 040 this time. Also, I use my garage for the paint booth this time. Make sure to use 3M masking tape. Don't use HDX one. It does not stick long enough. Make sure to tape all the corner. Start painting doors. Succeed! LegnaZetr0
Just read through your build, SEM products are great, I've used their carbo-fil and interior paint at work and on my personal project. I'm a big fan of ppg products though, if prepped properly paint chipping off should never be a problem. Either way the doors came out looking good, Post up pics of the chassis once you finish it! tamo3
Thanks Leon, terse, LegnaZetr0, Here is the update for body painting. When I try to paint, multiple parts, I made a lot of mistake. So, I just concentrated on body only. Masking takes so long time. Not bat??
