TateS130
Hello friends. I am stuck. I have my stock T3 turbo on my l28et on 12lbs of boost. I have water injection and I always use 91 gas. I'm about a month away from getting Megasquirt 2 installed in my car and tuning it, along with a new FPR, 440cc injectors, a Pallnet fuel rail, and a T3/T4 turbo. The last thing I want is engine detonation right before I get this thing in its final stages for tuning. Can someone please point me in the right direction for a sexy, functioning intercooler that can handle 300-400 hp and that can be installed front mounted in an S130, I'd really appreciate it. I'm looking to piece together my own kit here. If you know of a decent kit for under 400 that'd be great but if not, no worries. I've seen the CXRacing ones and I just can't drop 500 for an intercooler and piping. Gotta save for Megasquirt and the t3/t4. I'm only 16 and I'm working 40 hours a week to get this shit done. Thanks for your help guys.
aarang
The 27x12x3 universal intercooler is what I have in my ZX, and is a good fit. I got it for $92 w/free shipping a few years back. The rest I pieced together from universal aluminum bends and couplers. Total cost was about $250 if I remember right. I drew a crude drawing of the engine bay and how I wanted the pipes to go so I wouldn't buy too much. Just plan it out first so there is no waste. BLOZ UP
The CXRacing intercooler is about as cheap as you can get for a good product from a crappy supplier. It's also at a great price. You should be able to get it and some couplers (try siliconeintakes.com for cheap ones and cheap clamps) for around $400. If that's too expensive then you might be able to scrounge around junkyards for NPR intercoolers or online forums for used intercoolers, but that's more work. It all depends on how handy you are and what tools you have available.
Tony D
Anybody look at what functions on JeffP's 750HP 3.0 L-Series? Hint: "it's not as big as you would think and has air temperatures at full HP within 9C of ambient..." You need engine cooling, which means radiator airflow. The bigger your I/C is, the more it takes away from water cooling capacity. If you use your A/C...even more to consider.
BLOZ UP
Yeah, what he said. You don't need a huge intercooler, especially with the air mass needed for 400hp. The CXRacing or Mishimoto ones are plenty big.
skirkland1980
I like my saab intercooler from a 96 900 I believe. I think I paid $40 from a junk yard, been using it it for four years now. I've considered upgrading but I haven't found a need to yet.
roger280zx
Treadstone has about the best heat exchanger for a tight budget. You can get them with or with out endtanks, lots of options. They are big enough to offer great prices but small enough to still offer good service.
elishallen
I've been recommended to just go with an eBay intercooler (universal kit for about 100) by a local Z guy. What are your alls opinions?

LanceVance
I've been recommended to just go with an eBay intercooler (universal kit for about 100) by a local Z guy. What are your alls opinions? I'd rather run a used quality piece than a new piece of questionable quality. Piping is one if the few things I'd make an exception for (although I did spend some good money on having a more complicated section in one piece rather than stacking a bunch if segments and couplers together). I picked up a lightly used Treadstone for $50 locally... Just keep an eye on CL until something that suits you comes up!
