inline6
Did some searching for options and I see a few things: Taurus fan won't work well unless it is a puller, and won't fit as a puller with the L6. Two 10" fans are not recommended - use 12" instead Anyone have experience with this kit on ebay for $230? I don't know if I just missed it or what, but I don't know the size of these. I also see these Hayden fans at Summit Racing for $165. This pair is rated at a total of 1600 cfm. A video at the Summit Racing site recommends 6 cyl start at 2000 cfm I'm running a Jags that Run radiator - which is a lateral flow oversize 2 core chevy unit of some type. Never had overheating issues, but the new engine is going to turn 7700 rpm some day soon and I really don't want a mechanical fan on it at that point. Engine is likely to have ~ 250 to 260 hp when final tuned... That's where I am to start. Edited November 22, 2014 by inline6
lowrider
I'm currently using a Hayden 16" two speed fan on my l28et with A/C. The car has no issue keeping cool with A/C on in the hot 100 degree Tennessee summer. It was difficult finding a cooling fan that was thin enough to not interfere with the crank trigger and flow enough air to manage temps with the air conditioning. The best part about the Hayden fan is that it is available at O'Reilly auto parts! Here is the link to the exact fan I used: http://m.oreillyauto.com/mt/www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/detail/HDN1/3817.oap?ck=Search_3817_-1_4818&keyword=3817
Kirkster
I used a Spal 30102029 12" Swept Blade Fan. My build is topping out at 260whp right now. It is an autocross car and I am beating on it and The Spal fan is working very well. It is off center of the radiator as it was just too close to the water pump for my liking. I guess it has a side benefit of blowing air over the exhaust headers.... I have it set to turn on a 185° at the moment and when I look at the logs I don't see it much over 200°
LanceVance
I recall someone posting that they were able to fit the Taurus fan as a puller by swapping shrouds with an Escort. I've yet to be able to go to the junkyards and pick up the shroud to test it out, but it might be worth your while to check it out? Edit: Initially said Ford Escape, when it is actually a Ford Escort (91'-02' non-ZX2). HuD 91gt
Just curious as to why two 10" fans aren't recommended? I just tossed on a set of 2 cheapo 10" fans from Amazon on my 3-core champion radiator. Seems to work just fine.
Nelsonian
Spal has a new brush less puller fan that is supposed to be thin bodied. http://www.spalautomotive.com/public/documents/6bf9c185-2f13-4c92-ae72-3cd5ba41cced.pdf
firechicken
Just bought my first Z a week ago and it's pretty disassembled. Radiator and fans not included. I bought a 3 row radiator and two 12" fans. what do you all use for the thermal switching?
Kirkster
My mega squirt does it all for me...
duragg
I tried to make the Taurus "wind machine" fit. That thing is a beast... but no fits. Tried the dual fans from MSA. No bueno. Finally bought a rather cheap 16" fan (Maybe Derale?) and it is super. Takes about all the room from top of radiator to the nipple of the water pump at the motor core and clears just fine. 3L motor in race only applications. I don't need it for qualifying or practice but in races with traffic impeding airflow its a must have. No idea the CFM. Probably pulls about 30amps or so. Maybe a bit less. It was melting 30a fuses until I installed a good aircraft 50A breaker. Mine is on a simple ON/OFF switch under the hood which forces us all to put eyes on the mill before / after races. Rambling, sorry... drinkin...
bens1088
Running a 12" mishimoto all the time and a 10" mishimoto with a thermostat switch at 210 degrees (if I remember correctly). Seems to work pretty well so far. Though I haven't driven it hard in 100+ degree weather yet. Fits with no issues and mounts perfectly on my aluminum radiator.
