grannyknot
I turned up an aluminum adapter to join a bmw driveshaft to the r200 diff, I'm worried about the soft metal threads and not being able to torque the M8 bolts on the diff side. I can't mount a fixed stud because there would not be enough room to install, can't use nuts to sandwich the flange. I may have to remake the adapter in steel but want to try and make this work first if I can. So I'm thinking some kind of Helicoil or maybe an interference fit threaded insert. Would appreciate any advice, thanks, Chris
Derek
I use http://www.timesert.com I like them better than helicoils for high load items. Ebay is usually loaded with kits.
Neverdone
I was just gonna run this and hope for the best! I might safety wire the bolts on the driveshaft side. Maybe re-make the whole thing with a thicker piece of aluminum. Who knows. Edited February 13, 2017 by Neverdone

grannyknot
Timesert kit arrived, very impressed, well thought out. I think it is going to do the trick. before, After drilling out the threads and counterboreing, re threaded, cleaned and ready for the insert, Loctite on the outside threads of the insert, I ordered the 16.2mm long inserts so I could use the full thickness of the flange
