Gmagno
I purchased a 1970 Datsun 240Z that was turned into a race car by the Datsun dealer when new and raced in the 70's against Bob Sharp at Road atlanta. Bought it from a guy in Ohio that raced it in SCCA up until 2007. Finally got around to stripping the car and have started the restoration process. The plan is to finish it for the MSR race in Angleton, TX end of July.

jhm
Congrats on your find and good luck with the resto-build. Looking forward to seeing the progress!
Ironhead
Looks like a great project, congrats! Some of the things that have been done to old race cars always intrigue me. I wonder why they added the framework under the driver and passenger floor? Seems like it would add no rigidity but a lot of weight.... Putting it back to preserve the way it was and also using it as a framework for the full belly pan.
jhm
Nice parts list! 👍 Dropping some serious change on this build. You may want to consider some adjustable tie rod ends, while you're at it....there's a couple vendors out there; I've got T3's, and am pretty happy with the quality. Apex Engineering just released some, but I don't know anyone that's used them yet.

In fact I did order those from Dave at Arizona Z, just forgot to put them on the list. 2 - Adjustable Billet Outer Tie Rod Ends $69.00 EA. Gmagno
Sandblasting complete. Welding, welding, more welding, then nascar bar install before suspension mock up. Edited June 22, 2018 by Gmagno
clarkspeed
Looking good. I will be very interested to see how your weight comes out. The shell I started with looked much like yours now. It was missing firewall, all the floor tubing, work around the transmission tunnel, and no windshield. But had a full cage and front tubing similar to yours. It weighed in at 500lbs. I really really want mine to come in < 2k.

My old blue Z was stock except the inside cage and weighed 2200. I am guessing this will be 2500.
Gmagno
Moving along now. Welded the bung for the removable steering wheel. Finished up the Nascar bars and lower rear valance replacement. Cleaning up older welds, sandblasting doors and hood. The next step is mocking up the doors. I bought used factory hinges so the doors can open rather than be removed, faster in the pits this way. After doors, hatch and hood are mocked up and working well its on to the suspension so we know what to do with the fender flares.
