JoeK
Is there a way to make the backup lights work? ‘71 240z with LS1 and T56 and JCI mount. The reverse sensor is too close to the tunnel for the plug to fit in it. Am I missing something?
auxilary
Maybe this will work? https://www.sikky.com/product/sikky-low-profile-t56-reverse-lamp-sensor/ Edited October 31, 2019 by auxilary
idahoskiguy
You could add a dedicated switch to turn the reverse lights on manually.
G-Tech
i can appreciate you wanting to make things work as they should but i did the manual switch and i love it. i give it a lil flicker as i pull away from someone as my way to say goodbye! JoeK
That Sikky part looks like it would fit if I put it on before the trans was in the car. Now it looks a really tight, but very tempting to try it. Of course, the next is option is as the man from Idaho says, a switch in the dashboard or center console. Ofcourse, the switch is crazy easier too, since at this time my wire to the reverse lights is inside the cabin.
Richard Oben
On mine I just went without reverse lights. As it was too tight. Not required in my state. R
Aero Z
I used a 90deg switch that came on the 2001(that gen) Mustang GT. Got from Rockauto or Amazon to get best price. Has worked perfect for 8 years. from this thread. Part number in that thread. Edited November 7, 2019 by Aero Z
JoeK
Thanks for the tip. Here is a Rockauto link https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/ford,2001,mustang,4.6l+v8+dohc,1372643,electrical-switch+&+relay,back+up+lamp+switch,4240
Phantom
JCI developed their components on my 280Z. The 280Z tunnel is larger than the 240Z but the solution can be the same. Since the tunnel will be covered by the console and carpet use a ball peen hammer and dent the tunnel out where the reverse switch goes. They had to push mine out maybe 1/8" to clear ok. Yours will be a bit more. I've had no issues since the original install in early 2003.
