denny411 Posted April 10, 2003 Share Posted April 10, 2003 A 20yr old kid that used to hang out at my garage almost hit my house and two of my cars at about 2:00am. The DRUNK BASTARD came around the corner at a high rate of speed, slid off the road and into my yard. he came up the hill between my house and my wifes Explorer. (a space about 15ft wide) He missed the corner of my house by less than 5" and turned just before hitting my deck. Then he slid down the hill towards the road and managed to pass in front of the explorer and behind the Hyundia. The explorer was parked about 20ft behind the hyundia. I heard a crash and ran out of the garage to see him burning rubber down the road. At first I didn`t know who it was. I had never seeen the car he was driving before. I took chase and found him about 5 blocks away in his granpa`s drivway inspecting the damage to his car. I pulled in behind him to block him in, got out of my car and told him to go in the house and call the cops to turn himself in. He just starred at me with a confused look on his face. I had to repeat myself 3 times before I got any response. He asked me to wait until tommorrow to report it because he was on probation and would go to jail. I told him that wasn`t my problemand that I know damn well if i hadn`t run him down he never would have turned himself in. He would have more than happy to stick me with repairing my own damages. At the time I didn`t know that the only real damage was the downspout ripped loose from my house, some ruts in the yard and some scuffs and a small dent on the rear of the hyundia. This kid stiffed me about 3yrs ago on an edelbrock chrome breather and I suspect he is the one that stole my Nitrous kit out of the garage while I was in Alabama. He had no permission to be in my garage and My neighbor said he was in the garage for almost a half hour one day. To sum up; WHAT COMES AROUND GOES AROUND He`s now sitting in the county jail and should be their for quite a while. When the cops picked him up his BAC was .26 I hope he learns his lesson,but I doubt he will. His grandpa and his "mommy" have been bailing his a$$ out his whole life, and I doubt this time will be any different. I worked for over two and a half years on the DUI task force and I gotta tell ya there is no better feeling in the world than locking up drunks and taking them off our streets. It is amazing what some of these idiots will do. They put everyone's life in danger everytime they take to the streets. Man .26 BAC, that is toasted! He got what he deserved. I think he`ll probably get his in the end(pun intended) His Dad and Grandpa stopped over today to inspect the damage. Apparently he`s taking after his Dad. When I talked to him he said that he got his "first DUI" on this same corner about 15 yrs ago. He missed the corner and ran up the guide wire about 20' short of where his son left the road. What really made me mad was his leaving the scene. I had another car a couple yrs ago that was hit by a young kid that fled the scene. luckily I tracked him down. Did you know that uninsured motorists coverage will only cover damages if they can prove the driver was uninsured? That means hit and runs are NOT covered. If he had stopped and told me what happened, and given me a chance to inspect the damage, I may have let him slide. (after calling and getting him a ride home)But he was more than willing to stick me with whatever damage he may have caused. If you make a mistake, you should at least have balls enough to accept responsibility for your actions. I've personally seen three hit and runs and I made sure that i jotted down the plates and get a good description of the driver. Actually it was 4 but the first one i could not identify the driver and they got away, at least they filed on the owner of the car. After that i made sure to note who was driving. I was going pretty slowly and the damage to the old "Rambler wagon" was minimal. No one was home so I left a note on the car with all my details. Well it rained a couple of evenings later, destroying the note. Next thing I know, I'm being pulled out of class by the local PD and being charged with misdemenor "hit and run". Bummer!! Well, it just so happened that my parents were moving to PA from CA around that time and I heard nothing more of it. My insurance sorted everything out, so, no harm, no foul I guess. I was standing up and peddling as fast as I could through an intersection. I turned around to yell at our dog to stay at home. (we lived across the street.) The moment that I turned around,I impacted the rear of an early 70`s new yorker. I slid up the back window with my arms too my side. I must have looked like a seal riding on the trunk of that car. The only damage was a bruised ego and some skin from my chin left on his vinyl top moulding. Maybe not but I know here in GA you will be suspended for not appearing for a trial. The bad thing is if you ever got pulled over and some cop found out that you were from PA and ran a license check on you through that state and it shows you are suspended, you can still be charged for driving on suspended license. Even if you have a valid license through another state. Some places even take out warrants for your arrest for not showing up at court. Wait, you said you were 16. Uhhhhg the dreaded juvenile! We as in Police, can not stand dealing with juvies! Usually because the juvenile judges are way too easy on them and the paper work is hellacious! So I would say that being you were 16 at the time everything is probably ok. Besides no police jurisdiction would extradite you back for a warrant that old especially if you were that far away. No problems getting my CA DL reissued, so I bet that when they couldn't find me they just dropped the whole thing. It was such a bogus deal anyways!! It was just the 'Man' trying to beat me down!! Like I said though it may also have something to do with you being a juvenile at the time I hate Juveniles lol. Here is a little example of how Juvenile Court works: I worked an accident once were a 16 year old kid jumped a set of train tracks near his house and went airborn in his little compact car. He flew about 40-50 feet, if I remember correctly, and landed off the roadway headon into an embankment. The impact threw his friend through the windshield! I charged the Juvenile with reckless driving and too fast for conditions. Now you would think that the kids parents would be furious at thier son for driving in this manner. Nope. They showed up at court, months later, with pictures showing the train crossing and how there wasn't a stop sign there and on and on and on. I tried to explain that regardless of the fact that the stop sign was missing, the kid went over those tracks everyday to go into town! So he knew the tracks were there and he was going way too fast in the first place. The judge decided to reduce everything to a warning and the kid got off! The car drowned, and she had to be carried out. She had the nerve to talk to the news cameras , blast the city and complain that the barricade should also have a sign that said " Don't drive your car into the water". Seems there are also senior members of the population who shirk responsibility for their actions. I suppose those necessary signs should also be printed in English and Spanish.
