Tim240z
you can search all forums! go to the homepage and look to the left side of the page. Tim
SleeperZ
My bet is you will find no one makes the gauge pod you want. The Zs do not have the marketability of Hondas and such, and aftermarket parts manufacturers ignore them. Maybe you can adapt something from a Mustang or a Civic. BRAD D
Yeah I was telling ON3GO that it is hard to look at the gauges down in the consol, when I'm going down the 1/4 or just giving it anywhere. Up on the pillar it would be nice and easy to see.
rc's240z
I fabricated one a number of years ago that i was looking at selling, the difficulty is that the shape necessary to hold two guages on the pillar of a Z is a very difficult shape to mass produce. Out of Fiberglass it would be a 3 piece mold at the minimum. So pricing on an item like that would be at least $90.00 each if not more. having a custom one made would be several hundred dollars. Again Z's are not a Hondas, there aren't 10 billion on the street. So low production items are going to be expensive. here is a photo: http://www.classiczcars.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=6615 be sure to look at my other photos too.. DavyZ
I have heard (from a past thread no less) that a pillar gauge pod from a Mustang is close enough to modify and work in the Z. The cool, orange Z with the 5 spoke 18" rims has it if I recall. This is all from memory, so take it FWIW. Davy
PETEW
I thought I remember reading the same thing. It was a mustang or a 300ZX piece. I thought I remember them writing how they had to heat it, though, to shape it more to the 240-280Z A pillar. Either way, it looked nice and it was a two pod set up. I want to do this for my boost and air fuel gauge. don't want to have to look down too much.
RB26powered74zcar
I wish I could remember what car this double gauge pod was made for. I think it was for a 240sx, but not positive. I do know that it didn't fit perfectly, so I heated it up a bit with a tourch, and formed it to fit better... sorry... this is all I have..... a pic
JoeinCA
that's cool. torches are invaluable tools... .. but for keeping tabs on your car a Heads Up Display would be better and easier to see... hmm... now i have something else to research and design for the Z... Guest 240hybrid
I remember seeing "A" pillar gauge pods for 280zx's for sale, and they held 2 gauges. I thought about buying one at the time, now I can't find it now though. How big of a difference can there be in the Z's and early ZX A pillars ?? Maybe with the torch method it can be adapted. JoeinCA
yeah... they are listed at motorsport for the ZX. Maybe they carry a set for the Z. Joe
Guest 240hybrid
Thats right, MSA does carry the ZX ones, I saw someone's personal webpage with them for sale. He was most likely buying them from MSA and marking them up.
Sean 83ZXT
The only one I see is for the 90-96 300ZX.
Guest 240hybrid
Here is the thread that talks about the pods for the 280zx I saw. Tyson sells them..... http://www.z-parts.com/ Only $40.00 too.
Guest Cusp
I've read on the forums a long time ago that miata pillar pods are narrow like a Z's. Just heat them a bit and fit them to your pillar.
Owen
If you've got the money or can't mount to the pillar like me because of the rollbar, you can get the gauges made by Blitz or Defi that have suction cups, allowing you to mount to the windshield anywhere you want.
