I'm allmost willing to raise the B.S flag!! I know nismo called it a euro damper, but i know these cars did came with two groves in europe too.

I will look into it tommorw, since i own two eurospec (280zx's) and one with no PS (so single grove righ!) and have several eurospecs spare engines! i have seen euro 240z's with twin groves.., did we stumble upon a scam .....

I think it is also a way to sell stuff.. like euro lences (altezzas) not euro at all

hope it helps i'll post more when i checked, but i know they have two groves in holland too INTRESTING!!

Hmm, conspiracy theorist?!

I got the "euro" pulley, whether it's from European models or not, it has one groove and weighs quite a bit less than the 240Z damper, like ~2.5 lb. vs. ~4 lb. IIRC. Anyway, it doesn't cost any more so I don't see a scam. Still, some prefer using a heavier damper and lightweight flywheel for crank longevity/durability, but I'd suspect that's for 7500+ rpm motors. Or maybe I'm living on borrowed time...

The second groove was for the smog pump in the US. I'm with Dan on this, the Euro damper's main benefit is smaller diameter/less weight. I have heard of failures, but I limit my rpms to 7K so I'm not terribly worried either.

Plus it's got a much bigger bolt head on the front, so more torque to the threads. Should be less likely to come loose like my original ZX pulley did. Not sure if the rubber went away and the vibration loosened the bolt or the other way around, but I feel a lot better about the current setup.

I think that would be a thing, the weight and diameter!

I'm not saying Scam, it is actually pretty funny to read the MSA catalouge, for instance :"this exhaust system give that deep European tone" ???? what is a European tone? or; 'ad this for European styling'?? My point beying not the fact that it is a scam, but that US marketing is very European styling directed, to make it sound exclusive...just funny to see, that most of the times, the stuff told to be European is not european by far most .

However i think than the weight has to be diffrent...

Got the single groove too and had one go while on the dyno (7000+ rpm and 154 mph in 4th) the clutch strap made what my father calls an "inspection port" in the tranny. No other serious engine damage however. And remember the recommendation is to use a special nut and lock ring when you use the "euro" dampener. Never, ever use a used dampener....
