Forrest
Well, I wanted to take care of the electrical gremelins before the TLAC (biggest autocross of the year) so I pulled off the steering wheel column to get a handle on the situation. Dear lord... http://members.cox.net/forrestosterman/wiring/ Notes - everywhere you see a wirenut, there were previously 2 loose wires taped together....and I ran out of wirenuts. That white plug hanging down with one of the wires removed and every other electrical connection spliced into is my ignition plug. The other one is a plug to a J&S Safeguard ignition control. Several of the hot wires from the ignition are run to tiny gauge wiring and then out to large gauge wires again. Who needs fuses when half your wiring is fusible links? And the there were loose hot wires hooked up to the maplight power, and the tach is powered from the hazard light switch. I have a lot of fun nights ahead of me. Wish me luck - I still have a lot of questions for the P.O. but he's been offline for a month, so it looks like I am on my own.
JMortensen
Holy crap! That is my worst nightmare right there. If it were mine, I'd rip the whole damn harness out and start over. That is a serious rats' nest you've got there... Good luck! Jon
Forrest
Thanks Jon...I am definitely going to rewire everything. Before I install Megasquirt though, I have to figure out what is up with the ignition. There's MSD 6A, the J&S ignition controller, and the Z31 ECU. I have to see what is driving what, and it is intimidating to see 3 or 4 wires spliced together...whew.
Guest 1975yellowBSPZ
Are you driving the silver car at BR this weekend? Will you be in SM2 or BSP? I have a friend going from dallas with an sts civic. I told him to say hi if he sees you there. Bryan
Garrett76Zt
HAHA Forrest. What a mess! Doesnt matter that car still seriously moves! Slam that door for me while you're at it!
Forrest
Very funny Garrett - no more passengers! Ever. That is the rule. I will be driving the silver car if I can't get the black car running in time. I have been driving the hell out of it every day...I've noticed that since I got a turbo car I really really abuse the NA car, and go pretty easy on the turbo car. What is your friend's name? BillZ260
I got a little sea sick just looking at that mess. I will pull it all and go with a kit. I used the 18circuit Painless, but I am sure they are all very simple. The stock stuff plus the who know's what is very confusing. Good luck! Mine wasn't so bad but i had my car completely torn apart when I did it.

fl327
I would just recrimp/solder the wires that are loose in the engine bay, and put them in a nice loom, it would look much different. Car ran well, sure its messy, but I wouldnt say nightmare.
Guest 1975yellowBSPZ
My friends name is Henry, he's an ex-BR guy. He'll either be in a black 2k civic or a red early model. He looks like judge Ito.
Forrest
fl327 - it runs very inconsistantly, and sometimes things just don't work one minute and do the next. Also, it's kind of disconserting when you're driving and all of the sudden a loose hot wire grounds out, makes a big flash, and toasts a section of itself. So I definitely have to fix it, and that's going to be...involved. 1975yellowbspz - I'll be on the lookout. Thanks.
