Commiefornia!

I was listening to the radio this morning, and the hosts of the show were talking about the new DMV controller in california wants to implement, or, supports the implementation plans of gps tracking devices on vehicles so commuters can be taxed per miles travelled instead of gas tax at the pump.

gotta love this state becoming a shithole - now what would be the point of getting a hybrid car if fuel economy won't matter that much any more?

the california government is getting to the point where it is killing the state. for one our state is HUGE and unlike most states its not uncommon for soem to commute 100 miles one way for work. there is a reason why california has one of the mopst complex freeway systems in the world we depend on it. taxing the miles we drive, or taxing the gas is starting to overhwelm the working class.

Perhaps this misguided soul can explain why spending the money to do this will be more effective than the already implemented gas tax. Does not fuel consumption (purchases) reflect number of miles driven (for the most part)? At least the old system rewards conservation and efficiency whereas this proposal puts the H2 on equal footing with a hybrid (non-Z) in taxes.

From what I heard it was to apply only to the Hybrid (gas electric type) cars because the State is losing so much tax revenue from lack of fuel sales from these cars. It won't get far because it will become a disincentive to purchase vehicles that the left wing liberals have been pushing so hard for so long.....

These extreme liberal politicians are good at doing things......they just happen to be the wrong things IMO!!! I suspect that when your head is buried so far up ones behind, it difficult if not next to impossible to see or think clearly!

I won't ever allow the govt to put a GPS in my vehicle. Bad enough my new GMC truck has OnStar. I'm sure that even if my subscription lapses GM can still find my truck whenever they want. Maybe I should put a lead plug in where the antenna goes when the subscription runs out...

They are already using OnStar and other GPS devices to determine fault in accidents, they used it in the Scott Peterson case to figure out where he had been in the days after the murder, we had that post about the insurance company installing GPS into cars and offering discounts if you were a "good" driver...

Scary stuff.

Just remember, it's all being done for your "safety":shock::evil:

Think that's scary? Look up the specs on OBD 4 (or is it 5?). It requires you're car to have a built in transceiver that can be used to remotely pilot and shutdown the vehicle  Ostensibly so police can stop high speed chases, but still, how long until someone figured out the encryption on it and was capable of controlling your car with you in it :? I believe the spec goes into effect on all vehicles after like 2011? Not sure on the date though... Some vehicles already have it too, I'll try and find a list, but I know some Lexus models have it, I learned about it when my auto teacher showed me a few months ago, was surprised to say the very least...

There are also vehicles that have automatic reporting of abnormal status, as in, if the mass air meter consistantly reads an out of spec airflow (like if you changed cams) it will contact the manufacturer and report it, including your VIN, to check to see if it should trigger a CEL. Wonder how long it would be before insurance companies start to request status records to see if you're modding your car :?

Scary stuff if you ask me..

Obviously there is a building lobby against modding cars at all and not polluting the air and not going too fast and not thinking for yourself.

It's a dang crisis here. Our days are numbered... oh and I'm sure we will be numbered someday too implanted with a tracking device at birth or when you apply for a SSN.

I was told by an insider at the state level that they are just so low on funds here in cali that they are starting to get creative to gain more tax revenues.

Cars being an obviously easy method consideing the ratio of cars to people is higher than most of the country.

accident ... drunk runs into a car ... claims he was doing 45 mph at time of accident ...

police pulled the on board computer ... check it ... computer shows he was doing 75 at time of impact. was allowed as evidence, convicted and jail time. was not ruled as an illegal search, or invasion of privacy.

the OB III is supposed to be able to transmit to local authorities ... your speed, location, starting point of trip when car was started, how long engine has been running, how many miles since engine was last started. supposedly, it will be against federal law to tamper or otherwise modify the OB III.

maybe one could make a radio frequency jammer ???

i think it was pop mech had an article on this ... cities could set up receivers, similar to the red light cameras ... OB III equipped car goes by ... speed limit 35, car doing 42 ... electronic signature of OB III ... records show who is registered to ... guess what .... everyday on way to work, driver hits 5 of these receivers ... 5 tickets a day arrive in the mail. what a treat ...

it's all about controlling and making money off the working stiffs ...
