danc
Guys: Is there any difference between an 85 R200 unit and an 83 R200? I have a chance to pick up an 85 354.1 and wanted to make sure before I bought it and found out there is just THIS ONE little difference.... Thanx Dan
fl327
should be the same thing, you may have to swap out the driveshaft flange.
RB26powered74zcar
should be the same thing, you may have to swap out the driveshaft flange. fl327 is correct, just take the pinion flange from your current R200, and swap it onto the 85 R200.. (if it is indeed a different bolt pattern)
Doug71zt
Chances are that the ring gear bolts are 12mm instead of 10mm in the earlier cars. It may be a 4 pinion unit, which would be a bonus, as the spider-gears would be nearly bullet-proof. As for bolting it in, there would be no difference except for the above-mentioned input flange. According to Nissan, the four pinion open R200 was only used in the 1987 and 1988 Z31's non-turbo's. However, I've only seen them used in the 1988 300ZX. Mike C
My 85 R200 was from a turbo car so was 12mm ring gear bolt. Also, pinion flange was square and would not rotate in my 240z. Hit the crossmember. I had to swap on round flange from 78 R200.
jeromio
I have an R200 from an 85 200sx turbo (4.11). I had to use the pinion flange from a 75 R200. I'm using 83 turbo zx CV shafts in mine. I'm curious about this gear ratio though. What Nissan in 85 had a 3.54 R200?
