Guest JAMIE T
I'm looking for a nice one and and am coming up short. All the ones forsale on dimequartely are in CA. They must have a huge following in CA. I know of TWO in my city. Both are rusted to hell. If anyone knows of one, even in CA that is forsale or trade, let me know. Prefer a modded driver. Willing to trade a very fast Z28 for a really nice one. Thanks.
auxilary
because they're not rusted out? ie. they still exist?
Guest Battle Pope
There are a couple here in my town (southern oregon). There's a real nice '71 coupe that I could pick up for a couple hundred clams.
Pop N Wood
The early Z's are the same way. I think it is mainly because they never made it out of Californa in the first place. If you can sell all you can import in California, why ship them anywhere else?
Phantom
PM "Savage42". He has the inside track on the 510 scene and may be able to hook you up with some folks in Washington .
randy 77zt
most of california is very dry.rainy season is only really about 3 monthes.then we have only %15 or %20 humidity the rest of the year.the sheet metal they used in old datsun likes to rust.when i see picture of members welding in new floor pans in old 240's i wonder why they just dont get a body from cali.if you factor in the amount of labor + parts i can get a body for $200.if you want a nice 510 you would be wise to just buy a low rust cali car.plane tickets are cheap.$1000 to fly out and have the car shipped home.you could spend monthes welding floor in an old car.the local pick&pull has 2 240s that could be used for bodys on a project.the cars will probably be crushed.if you want to see the best 510's in the usa come to mount shasta ski area on 2nd weekend of july.many show quality cars with motor swaps. cyrus
Here is my experience: Imports where not accepted in the midwest the east rusty any that made it that far. High population areas have old imports ie san fran. Also most all exotics end up in. Cali texas new york/jersey florida and somewhat in Chicago Look for supra TT, rx-7, lambos and you will find I am right.
J Taylor
I've considered selling mine a few times. It's a 71 wagon and would come with another pretty much complete wagon parts car. It has had the firewall cut and boxed in for the vg30 turbo to bolt in. Motor mounts are already there, as is the tranny crossmember and the correct driveshaft to use the 300zx t5 transmission. I have a engine, tranny, wiring harness, mass air, ECU, pretty much everything to finish it except the fuel system and time to put it together. I would consider letting everything go for around $1750 if someone was interested. Body is overall pretty straight and I don't think there is any rust anywhere on it. Has a 240z rack and pinion, and I believe 280zx front brakes but could be wrong on that part. I would really hate to part with it after it taking me years to get it from the previous owner but I'm just not going to have any time to mess with it for a while more than likely. waynekarnes
you might want to check craigslist.org ... choose the san fransisco bay area, see what's for sale .. contact seller via email ... might get someone on the list that lives near the 510 to check it out for you... HeatRaveR
Hehe, maybe it's just coincidence, but the area code for the East Bay Area, across from San Francisco, is "510".
Michael
It’s very true that the Midwest (and probably the South, the Plains, and the Rockies as well) has a comparative lack of imports. Here people still perceive imported cars as an affront to the American worker. Even Hondas are relatively uncommon here. So the rust-factor is only part of the explanation for the dearth of Z’s. The other is vehicular xenophobia. In the 5 years that I’ve been living in Ohio, I have only once seen a 240-280Z on the street, and it was a derelict rust bucket. And I’ve never seen a 510 outside of California.
