Mikelly
...Yesterday was a rough 7 hour stretch.... But we got all the trusses set and locked in. Now I'm gonna be flooring the upstairs and roofing it next weekend... I was supposed to get a vasectimy next weekend, but I'm gonna put it off until early December since I need to get this thing as far along as possible... I'm fighting my permit deadline, which is looking more and more like I'll have to get an extension on... It is so nice having the trusses in place though... Not too long and I'll have windows and doors in it... I'm calling the power company this week so they can go ahead and put another service in ASAP for the garage itself! rags
What is the footprint Mike? I did mine 22'x34'. Holds both Z's, the GN and the bike with a spot left over for the recliner, fridge, bench, TV and computer! Could only use the second story for storage since I would need a variance to go higher than 15' and one of the neighbors was already pissed that I was putting it on his side of the yard! CruxGNZ
Cool Mike. How many amp service you going with? I take it you're going to have an air compressor, welder and lots of other electrical goodies, right? Don't skimp on the service. I have built to many places to have the guy skimp on the service and end up needing more. I actually had one moron say he was going to run a line off his house service which was pretty much maxed out they way it was. If I remember right, he ran it off his living room power... duh... !M! Mikelly
Foot print is 1st floor 24X32, second floor 11X32 and the ceiling heights are: 12 ft. 1st floor and 7ft. 2nd floor. The pitch is 10/12 and we are gonna max out on power. My brother inlaw is a licensed electritian. I told him I need enough for a tig welder, my mig, my compressor, the lift, a refrigerator, potential for a bridgeport milling machine and laith, and then the average stuff... It will be sweet when it is done... Did some honey-do stuff this morning and quite frankly I'm a bit soar from lifting those trusses up that 12 foot wall... it was a bitch... I took the rest of the day off and went for a motorcycle ride! Nothing like cruising on a nice fall day to relax! Mike
Mike C
I hope you'll have more pics? I run my house off my shop. It is on a single 125 amp breaker connected to the shop's 200 amp service. 100 amp service will be more than sufficient for your shop. I have only thrown my house breaker once, and was running the electric heater, hot water heater, electric dryer, computer, lights, you name it it was pretty much on... My new MIG welder draws 45 amps at 230 volts at peak output, but I have yet to throw the 30 amp breaker that I originally installed, but will pick up a new 50 amp one at the 'Depot next time I'm there. I run my compressor, welder, and lift off the same circuit, but they are never on at the same time.
BLKMGK
You doing a Barn Roof by any chance? I'm going to be contacting someone soon to redo my garage with a second story, higher ceiling, and I'm thinking Barn Roof to gain room upstairs. Hope I can get permits approved and whatnot. The way the current roof is leaking I've got to do something soon. Darn thing will be taller than my home until I "improve" it too... Guest craig
What kind of roof are you planning to put on the garage?
Mikelly
Jim, My roof is actually roof trusses framed up with a bonus room installed in the center... No barn style for me... I'll have a 32X11 room UPSTAIRS! The garage is over 1100 square feet total bettween both floors...! My 1st floor walls are 12 foot tall to accomodate the lift I'm installing in the spring. Phantom
Mike - about the 'other' issue you mentioned in your original post. Just one word of advice - ICE - and as much of it as you can handle. You'll regret it if you start thinking macho 'cause you're not hurting. I did and ended up with a pair of large overripe avocados hanging down there. Not a pleasant site or feeling. Bib, black and hurt like ......!
Mikelly
OH trust me, I WILL be putting the 'Nads on ice... No he man here... I have specific instructions from the wife on what I will NOT do... the short list of what I can do is: Eat Breath Sleep Watch TV That pretty much wraps it up for about 72 hours... However, I just called and had it moved to December... Hope the good lord above doesn't play some cruel joke on us... I'd rather Jamie T. and his wife have that kinda luck! Tim240z
Mike, Just food for thought. Very good friends of ours (Wife and I), decided to go away for a weekend retreat, just before he was to have his little 'slice and dice'. Well, long story short, the scheduled operation was 2 days too late! Bouncing baby 10 months later! Tim
Mikelly
Yea Tim, that is scaring the H-E-L-L out of me... I'm ONLY putting it off because I need to get the garage under roof and shingled before the end of November so I can get the re-finance on my property. I really don't want anymore kids... The HybridZ forum is enough for me to handle! Mike

pparaska
Mike, it took me 2 weeks to feel myself again. Back at work in 4 days, but I overdid it walking around too much the first day or so. The anesthetic will give you all kinds of false info on how well you're doing. Just ASSUME that your in really bad shape down there for the first 3 days, only get up to go to the bathroom, etc. ICE is a great idea. Best voluntary operation I can imagine having done, even better results than Lasic (sp?) surgery, I'd think. Once you've made the decision to NEVER have (anymore) kids. Very responsible, IMO. Of course, there are some religions that might think it's not acceptable - none I subscribe to though. No worries, mate.

jeromio
Pete is very trusting - there's a phrase in that post that, with this context, is just ripe for re-contextualizaion... BTW, I guess I'm in this club too. I'll defer adding to the stories of pain and anguish though....

Phantom
Pete - I didn't realize you went around "feeling yourself". I'm not sure I can 'handle' that kind of insight.
