slownrusty
Sorry to do this to you guys, but this is my first time and I wanted to hear some feedback on my wipe pattern (talk about a "toilet theme"..LOL!) - this is for my new Web Cams Turbo Grind... What are your thoughts? Many thanks! Yasin
rags
I'm bar far an expert, but that looks d*mn good to me! Joe
naviathan
Yeah, Yasin, that's a nice clean wipe pattern. Dead center and wipes the whole pad. Looks great.
BillZ260
I happen to like these WIPE PATTERN threads I've learned much from them!
RB26powered74zcar
Its hard for me to tell what the valve side is doing there by looking at those pics. If the valve side is indeed equal to the pivot side, your good to go, but from what I can see, it looks like its wiping more to the valve side, which means you could use a thinner pad... I've always found it hard to get a good wipe using that kind of material on the rocker. I use a black permenent marker, or I've even sprayed them with flat black spray paint (it comes of easy enough when done), after I wipe off the rocker each time with carb cleaner, and that gives a clean wipe with no smearing.... Give that a go and you'll get a nice clean pattern to show.

A Sharpie won't do that and it will be easier to see where the wipe stops.
Administrators BRAAP Posted August 28, 2006 Administrators Share Posted August 28, 2006 Yes. It is smearing, (a downside of the Prussian blue, just make it a real thin coat or use a sharpie as Mortensen suggested), but there is so much Prussian blue on both side of the rocker that the smearing isn’t “covering up” any possible “over wipe”, if you will. Your wipe pattern is just fine, run it. You could cheat it back little bit, but you wouldn’t “feel” any gains that would come from it. In looking at those pics, it appears that you could safely go with a .020” thinner lash pad if you were inclined to cheat the rocker ratio. rztmartini
would you reccommend using thinner lash pads or adjusting the rocker arm pivot (dont know what thats called) to cheat the wipe?
RB26powered74zcar
would you reccommend using thinner lash pads or adjusting the rocker arm pivot (dont know what thats called) to cheat the wipe? The correct way is to use a thinner pad. If you try to do it by raising the pivot adjuster, you end up with no clearnce between cam lobe and rocker pad.... Administrators BRAAP Posted August 29, 2006 Administrators Share Posted August 29, 2006 would you reccommend using thinner lash pads or adjusting the rocker arm pivot (dont know what thats called) to cheat the wipe? By using a thinner lash pad “AND†maintaining the recommended lash clearance, that will automatically raise the rocker pivot to achieve that same valve lash adjustment. I.e., to retain the same lash clearance at the cam, a thinner lash pad means a raised pivot, and vice versa.
