datsun40146
Finally it has been done. Someone put a jet engine in a ZX, it would be better in a Z. This video is so cool!
Cruez
its been discussed before..
cup
ahhh screw the drive bys.. he needs to gas it from a stop... that would be fun
Pete84
How fast was he going on those passes? And I'm assuming that the engine isn't on a massive reduction gear, but blowing thrust out instead of cranking for rwhp?
TomsCoupe
I remember seeing that video a few years ago. That thing is awesome.
Gollum
It probably isn't anything what you think. Find the old discussion on it. It IS working in the driveline. A true jet engine car would look something more like this... Just because a turbin motor is based on rotating air doesn't make it that much different from any other internal combustion design. It's main goal is rotation, you then transfer that rotation to a driveshaft, quite simple. I've seen this turbin ZX for sale countless times. Either peope are using the pics/vids to scam, or he's having a hard time selling it. I'm betting he's only doing 70mph in those drive bys, and I bet his top speed isn't any better than a stock ZX. Though I bet he can go 70mph with much less continued effort.
marcg
It looks like an Allison 250 (or mil spec T63) from a helicopter. Hp ranges start at 275hp at 51000 rpm. The gear box reduces output rpm to about 5000 rpm. There real popular in race boats as well.
Gollum
I think that was the major consensus before. Wich is why I doubt it's all that much faster than a stock one, but we don't really know unless we knew what his gearing was setup like. AK-Z
Needs an afterburner, and maybe another turbine lol
marcg
I agree with Gollum. Turbines have too narrow a power band to be of any use in a car. But that does work in a race boat because they do not have to cruise through town to get to the track
