V8_DatZun
anyone tried removing the cover between the door window and hatch glass and welding a piece of metal just skinny enough to cover up the parts you dont want seen? to make it look like its a part of the car instead of that ugly plastic piece? there was a post awhile back asking about ways to make it look better... but it didnt mention this. also does anyone sell new ones? mario_82_ZXT
I went to the JY and got the early (79-80) post covers. I can't remember if they're aluminum or stainless, but they bolted right up and look 100 times better IMHO... Mario
datsunlover
Very thin stainless IIRC.. and they do look great compared to the later plastic ones..
007max
I prefer the later plastic ones to the stainless ones with the vents... Want to trade?
V8_DatZun
well i recently broke one of the plastic ones i had.. i've got both.. i mean they look ok... but i had it off.. and put a piece of cardboard up just wide enough to cover the ugly sh!t and it looked pretty good... if you could imagine welding it in it would look like part of the car.. and not a bolt on part.. Guest Mike
I have an early 260 (1/74). Mine has both plastic pieces in excellent condition. What do the stainless ones look like? Will ours interchange?
Guest Mike
Will a set from this car work? http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=119111
SHADY280
the s130 side covers are much wider than the s30 cars.
Guest Mike
Sorry guys. I'm embarrassed to expose my ignorance in public but I was just trying to help:redface: I would have researched before posting but I felt that expediancy was important:mrgreen:
V8_DatZun
thanks mike.. but i think somehow the question of my original post was misunderstood. i was wanting to know if anyone had welded a piece to LOOK like it was just a wide seperation between front and back window instead of a pillar "COVER"
Guest Mike
Why don't you give it a try and let us know how it works?
SHADY280
dont forget the pix!
award280
I had this same thought a few years ago, and even went as far as to photoshop something up. Unfortunately, I can't remember where those pics are.
V8_DatZun
did the photoshop look pretty good though? i mean did the car look cheesey like that or did it actually look pretty good?
award280
I thought it looked good, but I wanted to see it a few more times before I tried mocked it up on a real car. Maybe someone with the trim removed could maybe mock it up with some cardboard and take some pics.
260DET
thanks mike.. but i think somehow the question of my original post was misunderstood. i was wanting to know if anyone had welded a piece to LOOK like it was just a wide seperation between front and back window instead of a pillar "COVER" There is a vent there so that would be covered up, don't know how much venting it does though. I'm going to do something, maybe some slotted body coloured metal screwed into place?
David K
I had my pillar covers powdercoated black. You guys should try it before anything extreme.
